Today, I faced the exact issue as strawmUnkey on my 550 km drive from Hyderabad to Tirupati. The first 450 kms of the drive was super smooth. Post this, rattle started on the right side of the steering at various speeds irrespective of the surface it is driven on.

My car is going for its 1000km visit at the service center in Tirupati on Monday. But oddly though I got the service reminder @ 801 kms. Seems to be the same issue as yours.

Otherwise the drive was pretty good. I felt the ride was only slightly more bumpy than my Innova touring sport.

OT: Onepiece fan:)

VVC Hitech City Service Center told me that "The issue is with a screw bolt which holds the roof together on the driver's side. It wasn't threaded straight at the factory causing a gap and the resulting noise." I wasn't in the service bay to be able to attest to this reasoning.

That said, I haven't heard the rattle since.

I took the car for its first service today.

The service center team was very friendly and did a good job. Neither I nor could the service team replicate the rattle. So left that as it is for now.

No other complaints. In and out under 4 hours.

No, I haven't noticed any sound or anomalies while shifting the gear. I have driven around 700km after the fix and haven't faced any issues so far.

Though the incident was disheartening, knowing the fact that Mahindra is aware of the issue and the fixes are identified does give some amount of comfort. Thank you, slicvic. This the first, and useful info I have received on the Thar's gear issue. Please keep posting if your Birdie chirps anymore ;)

If the 3rd was engaged instead of 1st gear, the car would stall and die.
Did this happen? was there any abnormality in the rpm?
Could you pls engage the third gear again in similar conditions and tell us whether the power loss was similar to what you experienced.

Regarding the smoke, Did you not open the hood and check where it was from? Clutch burning generally doesn't have much smoke, at least not from the engine bay. Will check with a someone from M&M and confirm again.

But there will be a smell, very distinct. Can't miss

It’s been less than a week since the delivery of our Thar, haven’t had much chances of taking the vehicle out for a spin besides the usual grocery runs.

Took the vehicle out for a quick run around the city (30kms), once back and parked observed that the floor of the driver side foot well was hot. Vehicle is a LX Diesel AT HT.
I still haven’t gotten the floor mats installed, is this heat expected?

Good morning!

I took delivery of LX D AT HT last night and while driving around 9PM (with humid conditions), severe windshield fogging appears on the exterior of the lower middle windshield.

I’ve read about similar experiences on other Thars, is this on all Thars (AC vents leaking) or just few random Thars?

Any information on proper dealership fixes (besides blocking vents in that area as a temp fix)?

Same fogging issue exists in my Thar D HT AT. I have not visited dealership yet but I keep a towel on dashboard on driver side to keep the windscreen clear on humid rainy days.

I have the same issue as well. I believe this happens because there’s AC leaking from the vents placed behind the windscreen. The irony is these vents are used for de-fogging the windows and it does the exact opposite. I’m not sure how putting a towel has solved the problem. I did do the exact same thing. The AC is leaking from the middle vent. So, I placed a cloth in the middle covering the vent. Now the AC has diverted to the driver side vent and is fogging the RHS of the window. Are you covering the entire part? What I wanted to do was to tape all three vents. Then I thought maybe this will lead to condensation on the inside of the vents leading to water accumulation which might damage the AC. The service centre is far away from my place and I didn’t have the time to visit as well. Hopefully we have a solution for this.

I need help in figuring out the Horn Chirps - Mute/Un-mute function.

I’m using the 8.3.6 section of the Owners manual on page 88.

These instructions only mute/un-mute the horn chirps on search/panic button of the Remote Key fob. But horn chirps on Lock/Unlock aren’t working.

Maybe this is because the under-bonnet insulation is missing on both Petrol & Diesel variants. The bonnet gets really hot.

Even I had similar thoughts, but this happened in Ladakh where ambient temperatures were already low. Also, one of the wiper's fitting got melted (Bosch Eco and not the stock).

One guy in Bhopal shared his entire washer unit was melted when I posted in the owner's WAG that if I am the first one to face this.

My suspect is the Temperature Sensor is not working properly so the cooling system is not getting to work properly will get it checked over the weekend. (Even in this thread there are a couple of mentions of their malfunctioning) . I just hope this is not the case and overheating have not done some permanent damage to the engine/other components waiting to bite me in the future :Frustrati

If this is not the case then the quality of materials used by Mahindra is very cheap. Thermosetting Plastics are very very cheap.

OFF TOPIC

I think you mean thermoplastics. Thermoplastics like ABS, polycarbonate, PVC, polypropylene etc are those which can melt again after curing, on application of heat.

Thermosetting plastics include the likes of melamine and bakelite. Once cured, they cannot melt.
