Oil pressure problems in brand new Mahindra Scorpio S11

I am sharing plight of my friend who recently got himself a brand new Mahindra Scorpio S11 BS6 but his ownership experience is becoming sour day by day. Neither service centre nor higher management is cooperating with him. I am quoting his experience below.

Quote:
We bought a Scorpio s11bs6 from star India agencies Kharagpur West Bengal on 12th august 2021.The vehicle was trouble free till first service.First service was done at 1000 kms at NR Autos Kolkata. Later on i discovered intermittent oil pressure light is blinking in the meter console.
The vehicle was sent to NR Auto workshop on 4th September. They kept the vehicle for few days and they said as per recommendation of Mahindra technical team they replaced the oil pressure switch and oil pump.
He thought that his problem should be resolved but alas there's more to follow.

Quote:
I took the vehicle after driving few kilometres again the light started blinking. On the very same day 11th September vehicle again sent to NR Auto workshop. They kept the vehicle for 14 days. On 25th September i got the vehicle. They said they have changed the oil pressure switch and modified oil pressure pump and o ring. They even said they drove around 50 kms and no light came. I personally drove the vehicle with workshop people for 35 kms but the light didn't blink. But after driving hundred kilometers the light again started blinking.

He has shared his plight in social media as well but is yet to receive any feedback from the company. I am attaching few repair pictures & his social media tweets/conversations with technicians. He is hanging by the thread now not knowing what to do next. BHPian's kindly advise the next course of action.

3 time oil pump has been replaced?! If so the issue is somewhere else, have they checked for all the circuits and any pipes? Maybe the internal circuit has a block. Also have they tried taking the oil pressure the old fashion way and checking if the readings are ok?

Re: Oil pressure problems in brand new Mahindra Scorpio S11

For an engine that's literally brand new, a repetitive low oil pressure indication is a sign of problems far worse than a failed oil pump or oil pressure sensor. There is certain to be a manufacturing issue with the engine block. I would insist on a complete engine replacement, nothing less would do.

Thanks for the suggestion. My friend visited the service center today morning and had a word with GM-Service. They are changing the oil pump again as instructed by mahindra. Don't know where this is heading to. My friend is terribly frustrated and is contemplating going to consumer court now. Mahindra didn't even share the diagnosis report when asked for. His hard earned is going for waste! Other problems have started cropping up gradually latest being gear shift indicator now showing in dashboard with oil pump warning on.

If it does not fix the issue, just go ahead with the consumer forum. Hope he has all the documentations from the previous visits?

Having spoken with the owner last night, this problem appears to be more complicated than just a simple oil pressure failure issue for whatever cause.

Changing the oil pump and telling the customer that each time the oil pump is a different, upgraded model, sounds fishy - I'd really like to look at the part numbers used each time (esp. when they propose to change the oil pump for a fourth time!).

The other Mahindra ASS detected from the owner's video, that the oil pressure warning lamp coming on is accompanied by the gear position indicator going off simultaneously - leading to a suspicion of an electrical / electronics / software fault, either in the dashboard console itself, or at the ECU / BCM level.

So now it remains to be seen what diagnosis is arrived at by the other service centre. Obviously, the technical specialist at NR Auto is stuck in the groove of replacing oil pump and pressure switch repeatedly.

Re: Oil pressure problems in brand new Mahindra Scorpio S11

Update from the owner, Mr. D: Issue resolved in 15 minutes by Star Auto, Kharagpur.

It appears that multiple couplers (speedo console, VSS and perhaps the oil pressure sensor) were loose - a horrible goof-up at Mahindra factory QC. All it took was to push in and fit the couplers properly. No more oil pressure light, no disappearing gear position light, no sudden drop of rpm needle, and the car runs smoother than before, says Mr. D.

I suppose NR Auto employed engineers from some fake engineering college, while a little dealership ASS like Star Auto got someone who passed out from IIT - after all, IIT-KGP is right next door!

Thanks for sharing the update! Good news!

A question from a non-technical person. Will there be no damage because of the oil pressure having been low? Even if there is no damage, shouldn't the owner be compensated with additional warranties?

The oil pressure was never actually low mechanically. It was the sensing and warning system that had a loose connection and threw up warning lights, though everything was OK.

Funny how this thread went from burning wildfire to a damp sock so quickly.

Sometimes complex, ugly looking problems do have simplest of solutions coupled with little luck.

Glad that the issue was resolved at last. The new gen cars need a lot of care w.r.t electrical and electronic components as a simple diode, wire twist as in the car of the OP's friend or a fuse outage would ensure that one has unnecessary Diwali lights in the instrument cluster.

The OP's friend should have tried another dealership in the 2nd instance itself.

One tip though, it's better to keep a diagnostic tool handy so that we can diagnose almost 80% of the issue from home itself. If you need the OE diagnostic tool, Mahindra I-scan or Garuda can be used.

On a lighter note, Star Auto really turned out to be the Star of the show!

Re: Oil pressure problems in brand new Mahindra Scorpio S11

Thankfully the issue is solved. This points to a serious issue though with the imminent XUV700 launch.
XUV700 has 100 times more electronics, sensors and god knows what. If QC is this bad with a new scorpio with these current sensors, XUV700 will have the largest niggles ever recorded in any car makers' history.

Re: Oil pressure problems in brand new Mahindra Scorpio S11

Glad that the problem has been solved without turning into something very serious.

For Mahindra however, this reflects a very sad state of affairs. Repeated part replacement of the same part clearly shows that they dont trust their own component quality. They actually thought that it was possible for three oil pumps of the same spec to be defective!

Re: Oil pressure problems in brand new Mahindra Scorpio S11

Glad to hear that the issue was resolved! This reflects how workshops no longer diagnose the cause, but just replace parts in loop even if it was replaced days ago! It is either the lack of expertise or lack of time/interest.
