Thats an important point, can make a lot of difference. Also was there enough life left in the BP's??

FE going down and AC issues should be related i guess. Get the AC setup checked.

Are you sure if 14kmpl:Shockked: is what you were getting with AC in city???

Got my car serviced from ACE Honda NOIDA and then took it to a local garage in Sector 15, NOIDA and did:
  • Engine and gearbox mounting replacement - 3 mountings were replaced at total part cost of approx 2k
  • Front right headlamp assembly completely replaced as the original headlamp had faded and turned a little yellowish (afterall, 10 years old now). Depo purchased from Sector 15 NOIDA at 1.6k
  • Front wheel brake discs machined and polished by lathe and brake pads rubbed with sandpaper
Since the above 3 repairs/replacements I am experiencing the following problems with my car:
  • There is only a very marginal improvment in the engine vibration or noise due as felt in the driving position
  • When the AC is switched on (even with the fan position at 1 - the lowest) there is a significant increase in the overall vibration. The steering vibrates a lot. This problem wasn't bad earlier but is now very very significant
  • Upon applying the brakes even lightly at speeds above 90kmph the brake pedal vibrates and feels shaky on the foot. Am nevous of applying the brakes even moderately at speeds of 100-110kmph range
Folks, any clues what have gone wayward during the engine mounting and gearbox mounting replacement and machining of brakes?

Edited: Adding one more problem - filled the engine with synthetic oil and got the air & fuel filters replaced at ACE Honda. Since then the FE has gone down drastically (from 14 to 10ish)!

Abu, meet up sometime so that we can actually see where the problem lies. I feel your suspension / steering column is acting up. Need to check those.
You need tyre alignment/balance and a rim/alloy check too.

I don't know how good an idea is it to switch to synthetic on a high mileage engine that is used to the semi or full mineral oil. Maybe someone can enlighten us with the after effects!

Hehe, driving style I guess. Always upshift b/w 2000/2200 RPM but it doesn't mean I don't redline her often ;)

Dear all, thanks a lot for your advises! Unfortunately, I am a little short of time to try them before embarking on the next trip (am about to leave for Fagu now). Hope the car will hold itself up pretty well.

Ankit, sure lets meet up once am back in Delhi/Gurgaon. I will call you.

@ankit-Switching to fully synthetic oils which usually contain a high measure of detergents might lead to the sludge deposited around the tappet seals, piston rings, gaskets to be cleant which is not a good thing for engines with high mileage as they will develop leaks and will start a whole host of problems then.
The sludge deposits occur due to mineral or semi-syns which leave behind residue because the literally get "baked" due to the heat.

@abk-since you got the brake discs machined, and did'nt switch to new pads, i belive it will take a good amount of hard braking for the pads to be adjusted to the new flat machined surface. So go around at night on an empty road and do some hard braking runs without locking the wheels. The pads were accustomed to the uneven surface and would have led them to wear unevenly and lose shape(which may not be clearly obvious to the eye) and they now need to get adjusted to the flat surface of the machined discs. Even little undulations on the pads will cause juddering under braking. And as Ankit mentioned do get the suspensions checked too.

LOL, destroyed my idler pulley a couple of days ago. While redlining at Marine Drive I suddenly heard a grinding noise, plus the kind of noise you hear when going over loose gravel. Didn't notice anything wrong with the car, so kept driving. The AC belt was missing. Viper called me a bit later to tell me that the AC belt was missing and would fit one soon. Then found out today that the idler pulley was destroyed. lol:

Guess a new one is in order. Is this something that would actually happen randomly? Or was something wrong with mine before it decided to explode?

hi all,

Some problem areas from my OHC , its run 53000 kms.

1) Gear shift is hard
2) Jerking on clutch release at low speeds ( 1st , 2nd Gear ).

I assume this to be due to the clutch => Need expert advice here , am I right ?

Questions :

1) Cost of clutch replacement ?

Thanks for the help.

Ahaha, just found out. Didn't just destroy the idler pulley, it wasn't even on the car when they checked it. lol:

Problem area,
I found that there was water clogged in the 'running body' (body hollow below the doors) on the right side, under the driver seat.
And the wetness on the carpet was also seen behind the driver seat.
A palio user said that i could be a blocked A/C outlet..
I wonder if its draining water, that seeps in tru the duct used for power cables for doors and mirrors????
But when I found the problem, I kinda saw there was also a breakage in the welding on the underside and when I tried to separate it the water just flowed out :Shockked:
I was blown away, I'm going to HONDA tomorrow. I hope i can fix the issue with out selling my gold :-)
If there are other OHC users who've had this problem- please advice!

OT - Can any tell me boot space size (in Ltrs) along with Leg room space ( in cms) of OHC ?.

Had the same, albeit on a smaller scale. Culprit was a badly installed rear windscreen. No more after-market for me, only Windscreen experts or authorised service.

My OHC also has the same problem which I too thought to be the clutch issue but its working fine.
Then I read in one of the threads quoting it to be faulty ECU for all OHCs upto 2003. Need someone to revalidate this.

I have a 2001 ohc. No such issue happened. How can this be related to the ecu? I don't think there is any correlation.
