I have an update on the buffing vs replace windscreen issue, I was going to replace the windscreen because of swirlies, and a lot of them which was making night driving extremely dangerous, and most forum opinion seems to suggest change which I concurred with. However on my recent service at Linkway the polishing guy managed to convince me to do the polishing for 1.5k with a one year warranty.

I warned him that if there were any issues I would get hold of him without fail. Well I have been driving the car for over a week since including a late night trip to Pune from Bbay and back and I must say for 1.5k I am quite impressed.

All the swirlies and scratches are gone and windscreen is as good as new, and to think it took the polishing guy barely 15 minutes to get it done, I am wondering why I put up with it for 6 months. Of course time will tell how well it wears but for the time being I am satisfied.

@ ankit & sprucegoose

thanks, 100/90 with a harness and relay it is, stick to reputed brands - this is tomorrows project, even city driving on low beam (which is what we prefer ) is starting to become harrowing..so need to do this quickly.. cheers. :)

Not sure but most insurance cos give 90% on the glass. just got once changed for the Ikon and we had to pay only 1k for the entire job including labour.
It was cash less. btw the WS cost was 5.5k.

Yes, I got the WS changed, and it came up to about 1.6K only. the rest was cover by insurance. and the WS is 6K.
I've changed both Drive shafts too.
I have the O2 sensor left.

I still have a rumble while on a bad road, I hope its not my suspension arms. :Frustrati

Guys,

a quick update on my brief restoration project

1. Headlamp bulbs changed to 90/100 - Hella with original Hella harness - about 1000 Rs - much improved than before

2.Alloys repainted, a two day DIY project with some tips from other threads here as well as other internet sources - after pictures enclosed, before pictures were posted earlier in this thread - reasonable results, will need more work i guess 6 months down the line

3. ICE installed, sub, 2 amps - will provide more details later with pictures

4. Did our first long drive - Pune to Bangalore, car performed well, mostly three digit speeds, around 100 to 120 most of the time - got 15.5 avg - which is damn good, had an aching butt by the end of the trip :) seats need some work i guess, hard to add more cushioning on the other part :D he he.

5. The Yoko ES100's are shaping up well so far, grip levels are decent, tyre noise is ok..

6. Proud to have TBHP stickers on the car now , see samples

more updates later, thanks for all the tips..

Guys,
I feel very happy bumping into this thread. Exactly what I was looking for.
My OHC 1.5 EXI has developed a leak in the steering rack and i need to repair it. The Honda guys suggested replacing the entire assembly (would cost me around 15-16k).
Can anybody here (fellow Bangloreans) suggest a reliable mechanic who can fix this for me.

Double check if the entire assembly has to be changed, in most cases its just the oil-seal.

@ KSM-Vtec: I believe its just the oil seal.

I just need a reliable mechanic to confirm this and do the repair. I am not familiar with any workshop guys here and i hope you guys can point me in the right direction.
I stay in Vidyaranyapura, Bangalore so if you guys know any reliable workshops around this area (anything around 10-15 kms) please do let me know.

Changing the oil seal is a trick job. in mumbai we have specialist who do only power steering work.

Is it true that a hard clutch can actually damage the flywheel if one doesn't get it overhauled over a period of time, even though there's no slippage?!

I was quoted 10K for a clutch overhaul (coz it's hard) and was advised the above when I took my VTEC to a garage in Goregaon, short while ago. Thankfully, the rear wheel bearings (which were busted as per Linkway) are just fine.

Experts, please advise.

10K for a clutch overhaul is too much. i think a new clutch assembly should cost you less than that.

@KSM-Vtec: Thanks, I thought so too. Infact, just read this whole thread and saw people getting it done for quite less. Any pointers as to where should I get the OEM assembly from and which brand?

You can get the parts from Laxman Auto or City Motors at Opera House.

Let me know if you need any help i know them personally.

I noticed another issue with my OHC. every time is use the car after a break eg.. in the morning. After I start the engine the rpms are a lil above 1.3k.. and then drops to 1k or lower (which i know is natural) and let say after a minute i start driving and the in motion the engine start to rev - so car is moving but acceleration is fluctuating when the clutch is pressed. I started noticing this esp when i change gears. The acceleration doesn't drop fully so the engine revs when I press the clutch. (the rev is in intervals)
the problem seems to go if slowly released the clutch and run a lil more on the same gear or also if I rev the engine a bit, it drops back.

One time I stopped the car while this was going on and the engine was revving on its own. its not like the cable is stuck and the rev is staying up. its going up and down on a regular interval.

Get the throttle sensor (tps), vacuum hoses and throttle body checked.

Did you get a TB cleanup done before the problem started??

Ya it has to be one of the 3. Mostly it would be the tps sensor setting.

@Shan - whats the cost of the tps in bang??
