I have the original Bridgestone tyres that came with the car. They're about 10 yrs old and have done about 28,000 km. Yes, you read that right! The car is practically brand new. I got it second hand about 2 months ago.
I can only upgrade the tyres right now. Will that fix this problem? |
Get new tyres even if they are the stock size they will have a marked improvement over your current tyres.
The rubber compound of the tyres generally go hard and hence provide low levels of grip after about 5 years.
Even if they haven't been used much.
Getting larger section tyres (205) will adversely effect mileage
Get the suspension checked anyways. Rubber bushes go bad after couple of years and a timely replacement might save you an expensive repair later on.
I have not used 205 profile on my OHC but have heard that it is harsh on suspension and touches the wheel wells on full turns; search within this thread for reviews from others. I use 195 profile tyres on my OHC and the grip levels are good. I feel if i lower my car a little bit, it will improve the handling.

The suspension is silky smooth right now. Can't even hear a single squeak from it! Should I still get it checked and replace the bushes? The car has barely been used all these years.
Also, if I go for 205 profile will the front tyres touch the wheel wells when the steering is turned completely? |

There will be no touching as long as your suspension is in good order.

How much oil need to be filled in 1.5 OHC? My mechanic puts in 3.5 litres. Which is the best oil and what should be the grade rating? |
Guys any answer for my query.
3.5L is fine with an oil filter change. Final say depends on the dipstick.
10w30 or 10w40 should be fine. Best oil depends on what your budget is.
Guys, need some advice on a good brand of tyre. I've decided to upsize to 205/50/R15. I tried with one tyre and there were no issues with rubbing/touching. Yokohama S-drive is Rs. 8100 each and Hankook is Rs. 6100. The size is not available in Bridgestone and Michelin.
Please let me know which is the best in terms of grip and ride comfort and road noise.

Don't know about the hankook ones, but the S.Drives are insane
I had Yoko ES100 size 185/60/r14. I must say they were very good handlers but they wore out in 25k kms.
Thanks guys, but I went ahead with Hankook since the Yokos were too expensive and I read good reviews about Hankook. And I got a 5-yr guarantee with them.
Now I'm starting to have the (all too common) problem with my exhaust pipe. If I have to replace it I might as well get an FFE to increase the power at lower RPMs. Does anyone know a good tuner in Hyderabad who has knowledge about VTEC? I couldn't find anything in the teambhp directory. I read elsewhere in the forums that VTEC is more sensitive than the 1.5 and a bad mod will kill the engine.
survived a bit of a scare yesterday. The wiper motor conked out and even though i switched it off on the control stalk.. apparently the charge to the motor was still going through.. before i knew it, there was thick smoke coming through the dash below the steering.. I immediately pulled over to the side and put off the ignition but not before having a tough time breathing and rolling down the window.
Popped the hood, switched on the ignition again, checked the wiper switch was off.. and still there was smoke coming from the wiper motor. Only option i had was to disconnect the wiring harness to the power molex for the motor which solved the problem.
So anyone know the rates for a new wiper motor? :P

You could probably get the motor refurbished instead of putting a new one.
To repair it will cost around 1500 or so.
Can someone post a pic of the universal joint connecting the rack to the steering rod? I got refurbished my steering rack and now the think the coupling isnt in the right place.
My VTEC has developed a "khat khat" sound whenever I take a right turn. It seems to be coming from the front left tire. There is no sound when I take a left turn.
Any idea what the problem might be and how to fix it and the probable cost?

Replace the left side axel.
Got my Vtec a shiny new pair of Tail Lights at 2700 a pair, EZDENSO Taiwan. Got a spare old one which I can pass on, let me know if any of you need it. It will fit all Type 2s.
