OE Honda shocks are manufactured by Munjal Showa.
Has anybody used KYB dampers in OHC?
How is the proformance? better thay Munjal Showa?
Are they recommended by experts here?
(My apologize to moderator but I tried searching and couldn't find answers to my queries, if similar thread exist please merge it.)
Mates
My OHC (type-2) suspension is lying dismantled and needs a complete overhaul.
Should I buy the suspension spares from Honda or buy the OEM parts from outside?
Please tell me the makes for the OHC suspension parts. please:
Also I want opinion from fellow Bhpians regarding Munjal Showa dampers.
I had called Ghai motors (Savitri Nagar), they told me that Munjal Showa is not available outside H.A.S.S (reason being that M.S doesn’t sell it to open market) and only re-conditioned dampers are sold on the name of new.
Whereas Batra Auto (Ashram) told me that they have M.S dampers of OHC. (Price 5800 for front damper set)
I am in a dilemma now. Please help
I live in Delhi, so please let me know any other reliable auto part shop in NCR.
Ishaan bhai..........:D
How much is difference between the dampers from Honda and the ones available outside? I'd recommend going to Honda just the peace of mind the genuine spares and the trained mechanics.
The quality of spares available outside in Delhi is not good, i know this because i had an Accent some years back and i started getting it maintained outside. The life of the parts sourced from outside is not even close to the one i used to get from Hyundai. In the long term the car turned out to be a lot more troublesome to maintain. Just my opinion.
if only front damper set is concerned H.A.S.S price is Rs.7000 whereas Batra charging Rs.5800.. The difference is 1200 but i guess as the list of parts will increase the overall difference will be somewhere 3k.
GTO in some thread has suggested someone named Shetty. Is he tried and tested? Dos he ship to Delhi too?
I fear my FE is too low and i need to find out why. But first i want to make sure so could you guys post your FE values for the OHC 1.5 and mods if any:

I believe the time has come for a suspension overhaul on my OHC. It has gone soft and sometimes feels like a boat on roads that are not level even at speeds of 90-100. I need to change the tires too.
Anyways it will happen only one after the other.
Any suggestions on what i should do first ?
Should i go in for a suspension job first or get myself new tires ?
I recently got hold of an OHC Vtec 2001 model. Engine is in very good condition and os is the body.
A couple of issues that i am facing.
1st week i drove and took it till 120, no issues.
2nd week, took it till 140+ and did some high rpms, the CEL came on and stayed. I parked, shutdown the engine, waited for a few minutes and again switched on, the CEL came on and went off as it is suppossed. But again after starting the engine and driving at moderate speeds for 2 minutes, the CEL came on. But after that i have taken it till 160 on expressway, no issues except steering shudders when i brake at that speed, might be the brake pads need a replacement.
The main issue i am facing is engine stalling. The RPM goes nearly to zero and comes back to around 700 and again goes to zero. In traffic, if i press the clutch, the engine dies. Got it checked at V12s garage and the mech said there might be an issue with the sensor. He removed the air filter and made some adjustment with a screwdriver, now the rpm is at 2500 at all times.
There is also a humming noise that i get when i drive at speeds over 50, it feels like a boat motor / gliders noise.
Can someone assist me with these issues and also recommend any specific vtec mechanic / expert in Mumbai. I say close to inorbit mall.
Any suggestion is welcome as i am a noob and have no technical knowledge.
Many Thanks...
Raj
Meet me on Sunday. I stay nearby (assuming you're talking about the one in Malad) and will check your car out.
Honda City Vtec - 2001 model
FE in city - 12kmpl
Highway - 16-17kmpl
Have a modified intake system, my custom exhaust, ECU, 195 rubber and fully adjustable custom suspension. Rock solid even at speeds over 160kph and a charm around the race track.
Max speed achieved - 200kph on speedo.

The mileage you are getting in city (10) is decent mileage and that's how much one can expectin city driving conditions.
But yes the Highway mileage is pretty low. 11kmpl. What speeds do you maintain & also is it a spirited drive ?

Look at the vtec quotes - that is something I'd call good.
My city driving condition isn't as congested as in bangy. There is little to no stop-and-go traffic here. I'd say i could go constantly at 40 mostly around third gear. Hence the small difference between city and highway driving.

those figures are seriously good ( assuming correctly calculated )for the mods you have done. is this with or without a/c ?
the vtec defiently gives a better FE than the regular OHC1.5 atleast in the highways. but the city FE is also quite good in your car

AFAIK OHC 1.5 stock tyre size is 175/70R13. Your upsized tyres are of 15". I'll let the below pic do the talking.

Diameter difference of ~3.5%, so for every actual 100kms run, your car shows it as 96.5kms, so next time on pls add these extra 3.5kms for every 100kms run and calculate the mileage.

I just make sure I change my car's oil every 5K kms.
What is the tyre pressure you are maintaining ?
You should be able to find an improvement after Airfilter cleaned/replaced, Spark plugs carbon cleaned/replaced, throttle body cleaned etc.
My mileage is as below for 1.3Exi
City - ~11kmpl (50% AC)
Highway - Always 18+ kmpl Without AC. constant speed between 80-100kmph. Anything above 120kmph results in 16+kmpl.
