I would also like to know if the stop leak solution from Lucas / other brands works for power steering or not. Also, is it possible to procure this stuff here in Delhi and would it be advisable to spend money on this rather than go for the oil seal replacement. |
If you ask me, there's no permanent fix apart from having the oil seal and steering rake fixed mechanically itself. It's just a case of mechanical wear and tear ... or in my case.. a result of the horrendous roads we have in Mumbai.
If done locally & if the steering leak is not a major job, it should not be more than 4k to 6k. HASS is going to be much more costlier than that.

Thanks! Will see if it's a windscreen issue using the smoke test. If its indeed that will head to windshield experts. Any idea how much it had cost you?
For the time being I have used a car cover to prevent more water. The newspaper trick works well to soak up the water. |
No idea about the cost mate as i had got this done as part of routine servicing and front suspension work.
However as an indicative figure, i think windshield experts should not charge you more than 500 bucks as when i got my windscreen replaced recently, i paid a 1000 bucks (rest was insurance). That 1000 bucks had 500 as minmum insurance claim charge and rest was labour i think.

Went to the local mechanic today to get things checked. Had tried the incense stick test for the windshield and it was negative.
The mechanic removed the wipers and cleaned the drain pipe area. Went to a car wash and poured high pressured water on the windscreen/bonnet and there i could see water dripping from under the dash.
The guy told me there is a steel plated which has rotten and the dash will have to be removed, the plate welded/changed. Its a long drawn work and will take a couple of days. has anyone got this done before?
Off late the car has begun asking a lot of maintenance and i am not thinking if its worth holding on to it.
Guys, I am not sure if I am posting this problem in the right thread. Mods, please move the post in the right thread, if I have posted at a wrong place.
The problem that I have started noticing for the past 2 days is that whenever I turn the steering all the way to the left or right, the RPM drops by 200 rotations. Don't know if this problem persisted in my car earlier also or not, but I have noticed it just 2 days back. My understanding is that if the steering is turned to the extremes on both sides, it puts more pressure on the pump, hence the engine should feed it with more power, thus leading to higher rotations than the normal idle RPM. Here, I would also like to mention that my idling RPM is fine and reads at 750 rotations.
Has anyone faced this issue? Is this normally there in every OHC? Does this have to do something with the power generation in the car?
Another problem that I have noticed recently is that while the engine is idling fine, there is a very minor (audible only during late nights or at a quiet place) tick tick sound coming from the engine bay. I have got the mounts and they all seem to be fine. Any idea of the origin of this noise.

Using smoke from an incense stick to see if the windshield is the source of water leak. Take the stick close to the joints, and if there is indeed a leak, the smoke will escape from there.
This was suggested somewhere back in the forum. Pretty effective i would say.

Don't think the incense stick will help you if the rubber joints are a bit out of their place. The same issue had happened with my ohc. Changed the rubber gasket which holds the windshield and the problem was solved. Yet, do check if the gasket is the problem before you take the plunge.
Btw, windshield experts charged Rs 2400 (including the new rubber lining) and provided a one year warranty.
If you go to the lane near Premji's just off lamington road... there are a couple of shops there who do windshields. Any of their guys can help you to simply strip the existing beading and rubber/silicon seal and reseat it for you with a fresh application for the windshield.
I dont recokn it would cost you a lot at all...

Anyone, who could guide me on the above please. Has anyone experienced similar issue? Is this actually a problem or is this norma and I am perceiving it to be a problem in my OHC.

Well I didnt experience it when i had my steering leak so i cant say for sure if this is what is causing it.
Regarding the tick tick sound - that too could be causing by anything either tappet or perhaps timing belt sounds? - someone else with more experience could help here. It could also be a thermostat or heat coupler causing it??
Alternatively, why dont you just take it to HASS & get a diagnostic / general service done without any repairs to see what they identify. You can always get it fixed elsewhere after that.
-- BTW guys, yesterday i opened my front left door panel after a power window failed to go up.. ( A simple spray of WD40 on the molex connectors and blowing away the dirt solved it).. I noticed that the insulation wooly material (felt like cotton lint) that is used on the inside of the panel along the door was all worn out and almost crumbling.
It got me wondering if there's anyone who can fix this or attend to it?? Do i need to get this done at the interior specialists or the guys who do sound setups?? What purpose is does this lint serve?? Is it for sound dampening only?
I also found the door speaker to be cracking in the treble.. looks like it needs replacement too, so if anyone's got their Sound Setup changed on the OHC, please recommend the front door speaker replacements!

I have this in my Vtec when the steering is locked for a u Turn. The RPM does go down a bit, not sure if 200 RPMs but less. Never noticed it when i had a wagonR before the Vtec. I dont think of it as an issue however.

This is because your PS pump has become weak or there is a leak in it which is resulting in additional load on the engine when the PS pump is at max load ie the extreme ends.
from last 3-4 weeks, i've been noticing a slight whizzish sound from the engine bay of my OHC, on close inspection it seems to originate from alternator area and i suspect it may be alternator bearing. all the belts seem good. this noise start to come only after driving for 8-10 kms. has anyone experienced similar issue? any idea whether ONLY the alternator bearing can be changed?
i'm thinking of visiting bosch service center in thane tomorrow to find out what their opinion is.

spoke to the mechanic today. The work is almost over and will cost me 3k. This includes opening and fitting the dash, putting a new plate and welding.
There also a lot of noise from the front suspension when the car goes on bad roads. the guy said the front lower arms have to be replaced, and the same would cost 5k.
Does that have to be done? And downside of continuing with the current one

Thanks Vandit, Desmosedici & KSM-Vtec. It definitely is dropping because of the steering pump leak then. I have a very minor leak in the pump assembly and have to top up the oil once every 3 months.
