Hey that's a neat job with the engine cylinder head cover (that's what they actually call it). It really looks like its new. What & how did you do this could you post some details. Would really like to do the same. If I do, it would be a DIY. So any inputs from you would be highly appreciated.
Can you also post a pic of what the cover looked like earlier.

Changed lights to Philip's extreme vision - good result now
Serviced thr car , changed brake pads - all well here
Put brand new Michelin xm2 175/70/13 tyres - ride quality super after the really worn out xm energy one
Radiator pipe broke - put a new one - happy with it - except that CEL light has come on!
What should I do , can I check myself ? Do regular mechanics can check ? Do they even have scanners ?
Let me know where in navi Mumbai I can take to except Honda service station ? Help on it please ! Thanks :)
Next week putting the car to cng conversion , this one drinks petrol like crazy .. I guess I pay RS.8.5 per km or I guess the mileage is 10 or so per liter ; will keep posted on how it goes |
Greetings !
I'm sure this thread will help you a lot. Congrats on your purchase and great job on your selection. The Ohc is a beautiful cult status vehicle.
As for your CEL. The first culprit would be your oxygen sensor. Which is located on the exhaust manifold cover.
Will cost you anywhere between 3 to 4 grand.
Yes regular mechanics can check. But it's upto you to be alert and cautious so they don't rip you off.
The do have scanners and charge around 750 Rs. It's better you get the car scanned so you will know instantly what the problem is.
The Honda service centres will probably be more expensive than regular garages.
Do post some pics of her. Good luck and happy chugging.

I didn't do it myself so I don't know what would be required to get it done. But basically my mechanic knows a guy who has the lathe machine and stuff and does all sorts of steering and suspension works. He had the buffing and polishing machine as well (and also got the fuel injectors cleant and decarbonised.. visible in the pic as the shiny aluminium rod laterally above the engine cylinder head cover).
Basically they took it off.. got it washed and scrubbed carefully.. then buffed it with their machine and then gave it a good soap scrubbing too to get rid of the grime and dirt in the harder to reach areas near the embossed letterings.. then i got the gasket seal replaced with a new one, had it sealed with three bond and it was done :)
If you're in mumbai, PM me and i can help you out with where to get it done..
here's what it looked like before..

welcome to the club! sorry didn't get time to reply to this when i posted earlier. I wanted to ask you why do you want to get a CNG fit done? Although i have never driven a CNG/LPG fitted OHC or any Honda for that matter.. I did experience my friend CNG fitted Wagon R.. & i really felt it lacked character.
One of the charm of the OHC is the ever so refined Honda engine, throttle response & fun to drive factor. If the CNG takes that away.. for me it would be a deal breaker.
Have you considered people's feedback before deciding to make the switch? or is it only because of FE issues?
If your car has not been put through a thorough service.. then try to do that (engine oil change/air filter/oil filter/throttle body cleaning) and then monitor the FE before deciding to do the conversion.
Thanks Racers & Vandit!
My CEL light has gone now there was a small cake connecting to ny free flow k&n to the engine head which was unplugged - so very happy with the car now :)
Today I changed the roof lights of the car to white LED's and it looks pretty cool now
Also in my workshop I painted the rear drum brakes with red colour as well as the front brakes :) looks pretty cool now
I need help on couple of things on an interior perspective
1- the dashboard (speedometer & a.c. knobs) have become very weak on light intensity
So weak that I can't read the kms done at night
2- the dials themselves are pretty dark blue in colour that they may cheat you for black
If we put bright pure white lights will it become nice blue Speedo dials ? Has anyone tried ?
Where can I find white LED that I can replace instead of the dull yellow colour ? What are they called ?
To my original topic of CNG - the sole and only reason to convert is FE and running cost - I do an average 2500 kms per month

Coincidentally.. Desomsedici & myself just exchanged PM's today on trying to get it done here in mumbai..
I came across a thread where a fellow member Sathya aka blueraven316 here did the mod for a baleno instrument cluster.
here's the thread..
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modif...no-w-pics.html
I've also sent Sathya a message to check if we guys in mumbai can get anyone to mod it for us in the same way.
The poor backlighting of the instrument console is a common prob with OHCs..
Thanks a lot Vandit and please keep me posted !! If there are 3 of getting done at the same time it would be awesome and maybe discount
hopefully.. but the problem is that he is located in bangalore while I dont know anyone who does it here..

Make that 4. I too had complained on this thread about the dim lights. When I replaced the speedo cable ,the instrument cluster had to be opened up..I checked to see whether the LEDs had gone kaput. All were working fine.
Even at night too I have difficulty in reading the kms.
Here's the approximate costs for the work so far... for those of you'll who wanted to check up prices etc..
excuse any mistakes in part names.. could barely make out the writing on the bill :)

Where in Mumbai did you get this done. Need to get the touch up done of my car too. 5000/- sounds like a great bargain for the whole car.

He's a painter who works along with my mechanic at the garage.. Although he did complain that he severely underestimate the cost of doing my work.. on afterthought he was saying it was more of a 7k-8k job :P
Considering i hadn't included the wheel caps painting when i first agreed on the job and the cost.. i guess i will consider paying him a bit more.. but lets see :)
If you want the full details of where to get it done and the mechanics details.. i can PM you.. or if you're free tomorrow, you can meet me at the garage when i go to check up on my car.
Friends where can I get the digital clock on the dashboard and the chrome strips changed at ? I checked around few accessories shops but no luck !

Chrome strips (also called garnish strips or window garnish pattis) are available with Shetty Motors near Opera House.
