Tacho and ask other stuff are working. No check engine light till now. Have checked the cable which is fine. Also removed the cable from meter end and took car for spin the cable was moving. So looks like some problem in speedometer.

This can also be just a blown fuse.Same thing happened to me once.
Check the fuse box - Below the steering column to the right.
If this is the issue just replace the fuse and you are good to go. |
I was thinking of the same actually. Most of the times it can be the fuse. i shall check over the weekend. I am thinking of replacing all the old fuses. In between the speedometer light fuse went kaput.
OT - Can the fuse box be relocated inside the enginebay. It becomes very difficult to bend down and access it in the Vtec.

Not sure regarding documentation in the manual.
But I faced the exact same problem and am speaking from my experience.
Just check for any blown fuses. You can do it yourself ,just a 2 min job.
No harm in checking :)

I think there are 2 Fuse Boxes in the Old City. One below the steering and another inside the bonnet. Just see if you find anything there. The descriptions should be written on the fuse box itself.
If the speedo is not working with CEL on, it's the VSS or a snapped speedo cable or both. Hard reset the ECU and the light can go off. Replacing the cable and reset the ECU with take care of this.
If the speedo is not working with no CEL and the cable is working too, there is a fault in the speedometer cluster. Also to check and when the speedo cable is attached to the speedometer, hold the cable from under the hood and move it - twist and turn - keep an eye on the speedo needle. If it moves, the cable is fine and the speedo should be OK too.
I do not think there is any speedometer fuse! It's all cable driven.

What is VSS?
Hard reset is different from normal reset?
Is it a big fault ...speedometer cluster?
My clutch cable, wheel bearings as well as hub are to be replaced, any idea where can I get OE and for how much?
Vehicle Speed Sensor
The tacho does not rely on the VSS signal. There are enough sensors inside the distributor for that, plus the signal is going to be infinitely cleaner as long as no stupid aftermarket accessories are connected to it.
Disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset the ECU.
I jumped a speed bumb yesterday night, and got back home to hear a hiss from the radiator pipe. A closer check showed a small crack right next to the coolant fill cap which was leaking steam.
Took the car to the Magnum service centre and they said that I will have to replace the whole radiator which would cost me 8000 rupees, plus 2000 for the coolant and labour charges extra.
Does anybody know any garage in Bangalore, where I can get this issue checked out?

The old radiators had the metal top on which a minor leak could be fixed by welding. Better to buy a new radiator. I had got one in Mumbai for approx Rs 3500 made by a company named Avia. This one has a plastic top portion. Fitting costed me 400 bucks at my friends garage. Original Honda radiator costs was more than double so i settled for a local one.
and 2000 for Coolant is :Shockked:
P.S. - Do not use MSeal as it does not hold the leak for long. It becomes hard, cracks and falls off within a couple of weeks. I was stranded at midnight due to radiator leakage hence replacement is better in the long run.

Thanks a lot for the info Vinu, could you please PM me his contact details ?
A few pics from the garage today :) & the result of getting carried away on the overhaul spending :)
Excuse the pic quality as they were taken with my trusty old E72 Nokia.
1st went to kurla market & souced 4 Original Honda wheel caps in almost pristine condition for just 300/- .. then got my painter to smoothen out the scratches & fill in the surface as best he could before spraying them the original silver color :)
These are the results..:D what say??
The piece de la creme :) Got the Engine tapped head cover (i hope that's what it's called ) buffed up to shine like a gem :) Was really happy to see the result. The exhaust manifold cover was also sent for plating and polishing (as well as getting the screws changed as they were rusted in place).. but it wasn't back by the time i went to check up on her.

Hello Friends!!!
Wish to join the Old Honda city club here! I recently purchased a 1.5 exi 2001 model automatic from a close acquaint, it's bottle green color and in pretty good condition. Few things had to change and without boring you all here is what I 've done till now
Changed lights to Philip's extreme vision - good result now
Serviced thr car , changed brake pads - all well here
Put brand new Michelin xm2 175/70/13 tyres - ride quality super after the really worn out xm energy one
Radiator pipe broke - put a new one - happy with it - except that CEL light has come on!
What should I do , can I check myself ? Do regular mechanics can check ? Do they even have scanners ?
Let me know where in navi Mumbai I can take to except Honda service station ? Help on it please ! Thanks :)
Next week putting the car to cng conversion , this one drinks petrol like crazy .. I guess I pay RS.8.5 per km or I guess the mileage is 10 or so per liter ; will keep posted on how it goes
