What a coincidence! The owner, Rakesh Bhandari was just yesterday showing us your hexa stating the same! Even he had about 6 feet of water at the TASS hence might not be operational for next 8-10 days. He mentioned that it might go in for total loss claim too.

World is indeed a small place! I did go to see the car day before yesterday and was absolutely disheartened to see the situation at Mahad. May almighty give strength to everyone to overcome these tough times.

I owe a debt of gratitude to Mr Bhandari for helping us in this scary and tough situation.

It is painful to see well kept drives in this state. But then, what can one do against nature's fury? This devastation has become an annual affair - one year it is TN, another year it is KL, then TS, then WB, OD, MH and so on - like a relay race. Unfortunately, the cars will go as total loss, and that is the more practical route, since it is a very very painstaking process to restore these cars, especially when all electronics would have shorted.

When the water level was rising, and reaching the levels of the various switches, the circuits would have got energized one by one - Airbag module (the lowest), headlights, horns, hazard warning lights, sunroof. Painful to see this happening in front of one's eyes, and I can only empathize with the various owners.

In 1998 and 2006, I've seen a situation similar to what the Ertiga, WRV and Nexon's pictures show and those cars could be restored. How? The batteries were kept disconnected and the only major electronic board viz. ECU could be saved by just cleaning with IPA. Only after all electric and electronic components were cleaned was the battery connected back. Immobilizers were just being introduced then so that wasn't a worry.

Esteem, Zen and a 800 - three fuel injected cars were stripped to bare bones, cleaned and restored to full glory in 2 months. The owners had that much of josh and put all their energy into bringing their cars back to normal, and they performed flawlessly for years !

The salvage buyer came yesterday to tow away nexon. He's offered 2.8L for it. But, we've lost the RC during flood, when car was immersed in water, driver window opened up(supposedly a security feature) and the document bag got lost.
At the last minute he backed out of the deal and asked to wait. Now insurance surveyor is in a pickle too.

Meanwhile another salvage buyer approached me directly. Offering 3-3.5L for the car. Since it was working out properly with the first buyer, I didn't entertain this guy, plus when spoken to surveyor, he said second buyer wasn't insurance approved, might not be reliable and may back out and I'd end up holding a dead vehicle which could be worthless.

I do not know personally any of these salvage buyers. Both of them agreed to transfer money via RTGS and only after the complete payment received (minus the duplicate RC holding amount) will they tow away the vehicle.

Now,
1. If I now insist with the surveyor, can he legally object and deny? Can I instead go ahead with constructive loss or something and get the (IDV-2.8L) amount from insurance for retaining the vehicle?

1a.How will the insurance determine the salvage cost?

1b. In case if I retain vehicle right now, and next week my new buyer backs out, will I be able to find another buyer easily enough? Or will I end up holding short end of stick?

2. Both the buyers were holding 10-15K for duplicate RC. Is this a standard practice? Can't the ownership transfer work out with "vehicle particulars"?

3. police station doesn't have a online FIR system currently IMO and they aren't issuing FIR for lost rc. Dad had been there last month two days, will follow up again today on an urgent basis.

4. Insurance clause states that the buyer may not profit from this situation. So, no matter who buys at what price, I am going to get max IDV and no more. but, in case of a bidding situation like this, is there a chance of some underhanded benefit? Or, by retaining the vehicle, can I sell it at higher cost later?

Re: Help! Car submerged in flood

My Ford freestyle 1.2 Petrol was left in my office basement and was unfortunately stuck in tyre level flood water for 18 hours. Gave the car to ford ASC for thorough checkup and interior cleaning. After inspection, ASC says airbag module which is fitted near floor has conked off due to short circuit and requires replacement. They do not have the part in stock so I will be without any functional airbag for next few weeks.
Before I take delivery of the car and place order for replacement parts, wanted to confirm my doubt here. Car has numerous fuses to protect components from short circuit right? Is it possible that some fuses might have blown up?
