What could this be? Moisture/water problem due to washing or fuel pump going bad?
Leave the car with its hood open in a closed parking lot for an hour or so. Let it dry a bit and then see if there is the CEL appearing.

Sure, i will follow your advice. However, i am a bit concerned to get the dash opened because once it's opened it just doesn't fit like the way it was before.

Thank you.
Thank you for your compliments. You have valid concerns. You will need to open the dash only if you decide to overhaul the complete AC system wherein you will need to clean the cooling coil, blower, ducts etc. I would recommend the overhaul only if you are going to keep your car for 3 years or more else just filling the gas would suffice. But get this done from a good reputed AC mechanic who knows his job well.

People at home are suggesting we go in for a new mid size sedan. But, I am insisting we retain this car and use it till atleast a lakh kilometers.

I will have to find a good AC mechanic now.

Thank you.

Now, after i drive for 45 minutes or so the AC just stops cooling. The orange light on the AC button is on. I can feel the load on the engine as if the AC was on. When i turn the AC on after sometime it is fine again. This happened twice in the last two days. I think there might be some loose connection.

Experienced folks on the forum, could you please help?
I had faced the same problem with my Indica V2 DLS a couple of times. Reason was engine overheating due to radiator fan fuse blowing off. System shuts off AC when engine heats up above permissible levels.

In my case I do not think there is overheating of the engine as the temperature gauge does not cross the mid mark ever. However, I will get that checked as well. Thank you for your input.

Re: Tata Indica - List Of Problems

Another query regarding the cooling system.
A rebuild Indigo (piston rings and turbo replaced) is consuming its coolant. The car has no problem with respect to performance, post the rebuild. It has good pick up, good fuel economy, no abnormal smoking, no apparent overheating, etc. However it is consuming its coolant at a fast rate.
Those who have driven the TDI Indigo are aware that in normal conditions, the temperature gauge rises to up to a little less than the half mark and keeps lowering / rising according to the driving, but always stops at a little less than half mark.
This Indigo is also showing the same on the gauge. However when the coolant reservoir cap is opened after 20 minutes of shut down, it is observed that the coolant level has depleted. And there are no visible signs of leakage from anywhere. And no traces of oil can be found in the coolant too.
What could be the problem? Radiator pressure cap gone loose?

Fill the Coolant reservoir with distilled water and then loosen the bleed screw on the upper radiator hose to bleed the air(Remove the air-filter box to gain access to this screw). Once the air is bleed, check and top-up the reservoir.
Drive for sometime and if the level still decreases then there has to be a leak somewhere.
Usually the bend at the engine block towards the exhaust side gets corroded and leaks slowly. Get this bend inspected.

Other than this check if both the radiator and condenser fan are working properly.

Hi,
Mine is a ten year old petrol Indigo car (MPFI/1,50,000+KM), still in very nice shape. The car is still working flawlessly, though I think that the credit goes to regular usage and timely change of synthetic engine oil (and synthetic gear oil) in my car for over last five or six years. This attached picture is from the user's manual of my car.

Unfortunately I am yet to locate this bleeding screw. Do I also need to open the air filter box to get access to the the bleeding screw? Please remember that mine is a petrol car.
Regards,
Rahul,
Cossipore, North Calcutta.

Thank you sir, that pipe was leaking. The car was used sparingly for few months and was running only on water. The owner just used to top up water levels, ignoring the causes of depletion, since there were no other apparent signs of mechanical damages / failure.

Re: Tata Indica - List Of Problems

2005 V2 NA DLS BS2 run 68K Kms - I have it for the last 10 odd years, during the last service, i had the intake manifold dismantled and pressure cleaned as there was significant amount of oil in it and it was almost reaching the air filter.
As part of the service, changed oil, oil filter, air filter. The car drives ok, acceleration 0 - 80 is reasonably quick but post 90 it struggles and maxes out at around 105 kmph. Previously it used to easily hit 120 -130.
I have also observed that the car really struggles at higher altitudes i.e ghats on a hot day- but once back on the plains it is reasonably quick.
Last trip of 600 odd km over significant amount of ghats yielded a FE of 15.X. Hardly used the 5th gear because of road conditions/traffic. The clutch was replaced around 5K Kms previously.

Some questions.
1. Does indica dls bs2 have a PCV valve or is the crankcase simply connected to the intake manifold by the rubber hosing. Trying to figure out why there was significant oil in the intake manifold.
2. What could be the reason of the sluggishness post 80kmph.
3. Could it be a choked diesel filter/injector ?

Get the head cleaned once and change the fuel filter to see if the sluggishness us so prevalent or gone.

Re: Tata Indica - List Of Problems

I've been getting a check engine light for a while now. Gave it to my local tasc where they said it should be an issue with the injector wiring, and fixed it. They also said that if that doesn't fix it, it should be a problem with some solenoid in the pump.

I'm still getting the check engine light, but now I'm in chennai, so I can't take it to the same TASC. Should I take it to a myTVS (since it seems to be a pump related issue) or should I take it to a TASC to do another Scan?

Sir, show it to the TVS people. But before that, check whether all the glow plugs are fine or not. A weak glow plug can cause the CEL to lit up all the time, is what my Indigo had taught me. Else, it has to be a wiring issue.

Re: Tata Indica - List Of Problems

My Indica V2 DLX (2008) is still running on OEM Bridgestone S322 tube type tyres @ odo of 62000 kms...you read it right.

Grip is still fine, threads have reduced , issue is I can feel road texture continuously and ride has become uncomfortable.

the Tyre dealer is saying , it will last for another 10000 kms , so its quite strange and seems odd that a original set of tyre lasting for 70000 plus kms ??

Pls suggest , if I should change it to new tyres immediately or continue? FYI - I frequently use Mumbai Pune e way with this car, twice a week. Am I risking too much ?

Hello Amazing, I know you are not going to find my response very pleasing, but let me be very honest in telling you that I care more about you than the car. You are risking too much by running on 7 year old tyres. Rubber ages with time and becomes hard. Now I need not tell you which rubber has more grip soft one or the hard one. If you inspect your tyres closely I am sure you will find minor cracks on the sidewalls and on the treads, these are the symptoms of rubber becoming hard and loosing its grip. Since you frequently use Mumbai Pune e way with this car and this being the monsoon season you should replace all the 4/5 tyres at the first opportuniy.

I had gone through exactly the same situation in my Indica. My OEM Bridgestone tyres lasted for 5.5 years, 62K kms. They had still enough tread depth on them to last for another couple of thousand kms. However I had the huge 3,500 kms trip lined up all the way from Pune to Delhi. Hence I did not risk continuing on those tyres and replaced all 5 with Michelin XM1+. What a world of difference the new tyres made. It brought back new life into the car. The steering feel, the brakes effectives all changed for the good. By courtesy of new tyres my whole trip of West and North India went smoothly without any issues.

When I brought my preworshipped Innova last November, the tyres had run 50K kms and had decent tread on them. However they were aged for 6 years. Though the car was seemingly running well on these old tyres, I was skeptical about taking the car for long highway drives on these. Hence I decided to change all the old tyres, so there would be a complete new set of 5. Went to Lokmanya tyres, Karve road, decided on the Bridgestone B390 (stock size). The shop was also ready to buy back my old tyres if they were found in good condition. However the old tyres were not in good shape. One tyre had a radial cut, another one was patched from inside. The two others also had some cuts on the treads. My decision to change the tyres proved to be the right one.

Tyres are the only patch of contact of your car with the road, hence they should always be in tip-top condition. My suggestion, go for new tyres at the first opportunity.
