I guess these TATA guys think i am better off. Am thinking of heading to Belgaum to get my Vista checked up there. Anything points/tips that could help me out would be welcome.
When did you last change your air filter? A clogged air filter can drastically reduce your FE. Also how much has your car run?

Follow the below steps:
  • You will need a 10mm box spanner for this. There are 2 nos of 10mm bolts holding the tail lamp assembly in place. Remove them with the box spanner
  • There is also a wing nut, but this is at an awkward position. You will have to put your hand in the space between the rear tyre & mudguard & toggle it at the tail lamp back side to get a feel of the wing nut. Rotate anti-clockwise to unscrew it.
  • Now slowly but carefully life the assembly. You may find it a bit tightly secured in its place. This is because of the location pin holding the assembly in place. With a slight jerk you can lift it off the holding pin.
  • Now unscrew the indicator lamp holder. Remove the fused lamp & replace it with a new one.
  • Make sure the new lamp lights properly before fitting the assembly back in place. Secure the holder
  • Mount the tail lamp assembly on the locating pin. Tighten the wing nut from underneath & the 2 bolts with the box spanner. You are done with the job.
Had this request come a couple of weeks back, I would have explained the whole process with pictures as I replaced my brake lamp some time back. Never mind if I get a chance to open the assembly again, this time I will definitely take some pictures.

If your coolant level is depleting & there are no obvious coolant leakage signs (e.g. coolant drops on your garage floor), only then there is a possibility that the coolant might be leaking through the head gasket)

Head Gasket it was.... I remember once someone told me that a Engine is like a Can and You don't know how many worms you will fine once you open it.
In my case it was just the Head Gasket, Engine Cooler and more powerful than before.
900 for the gasket and 600 for the Labour including some lathe work.
This car and my Great non TASS mechanic make me believe more and more in this car!
Daily rides are great again!

here you go. not very close, but I suppose you'll have to manage!

I had given my car to KHT motors for service and have made a promise to myself not to ever step foot into that workshop ever again. They made me wait for a good 2 hours after I reached the shop for picking up the delivery. The breaks felt the same, the least they could have done is tighten it, but then what was i expecting from TATA A.S.S.

I had to ask them to clean the car twice, the service advisor was least interested in telling me what had been done and he only ran through the bill which was for 6.5k. I'll post the bil details in a seaparate post. He did call me inbetween to say that the glow plugs needed to be changed and it would cost 1700 for the glow plugs and nother 700 as labor. I told him not to do it and got it done at a trusted local electrical shop. It costed me 1500 for 4 bosch glow pugs and the check engine light no longer appears.

The thing about these authorized workshop is that the labor cost is almost as much as the spare parts cost and they say they are reasonable. Disgusting, whoever still says that TATA cars are cheap on maintenance hasnt had their cars serviced in the authrized workshops.

Re: Tata Indica - List Of Problems

KHT Motors service bill

Total Labour including tax was 2975.74
Total parts including tax was 3515.06
total bill of 6491.... :o(

After al this, the service advisor calls me telling that there would be a verification cal and I should give him a minimum of 9, told him, dude i will listen to the questions and give ratings appropriately. Talk about audacity.. Grrrrrrrrr

Re: Tata Indica - List Of Problems

items 4 and 14. not really needed. Next time before you give your car for service, insist that they NOT do any flush or add any additives without checking with you. As per Tata's website, there are not for regular use, and are just ways to rip you off. Where's the second part of the bill?

Yup, Engine oil was sufficient earlier too. Though the ear lier one was Shell engine oil, after the service and Castrol GTX engine oil now, the car feels a lot more smooth.

The check Engine i believe was due to the GP, got them changed and observing for few days to see if the light appears again.

A funny incident...
I ask the SA if the check engine light issue is taken care of. He says, it was just an error and they have removed the error through the CPU.
Another guy walks up to me just before i take delivery, says sir you need to change the GP, else the check engine light will continue to glow..and glow it did till the GP was changed.

Will keep that in mine greenhorn.

Nothing else on the other page, just the totals, another part changed for 200 bucks and the total amount and the tax, I have pasted that as comments...

I had replaced mine (set of four) exactly two years back. Though it was not the check engine light on the dash, but cranking was taking more than usual time. Went to Lucas TVS. The mechanic tested all the glow plugs (connecting one end of the wire to the battery & the other one at the plug stem & observing for sparks). Observation: no spark at 3 GPs, this meant 3 GPs had failed only one was live. This was putting more strain on the starter motor. Suggestion from Lucas: replace the full set of 4, I agreed. I had replaced one GP at 56K (exactly one year back) with a Mico Bosch. This was the one which was still functioning. Now all the OEM GPs have been replaced with Beru make. Rs 1400.00 for a set of four & Rs 80.00 labour charges (Rs 20/- per plug). I retained the functioning Mico plug, just in case I need to replace in future.

Very true. I too faced the same issue. After about 30k kms my cost started to go up multi fold. I then saw the labor costs go up to more than double to what was 3 yrs ago.
From then on to now - 70k kms - my car get serviced at the local mechanic shop.

Thanks for the Suggestion. But i changed the Filter at 30K. It was not clogged either. I changed it nevertheless. No improvement. The mileage swings between 11.5 - 14. Think I need to clean the injectors?

Do you face any other problem couple with low mileage ? e.g hesitation while acceleration, lot of smoke while acelerating etc. When did you last change your fuel filter?

Hi! Thanks for your time.

Not much of a Hesitation during acceleration, but being a TDi i don't really expect it to push me back into my seat while it takes off! It takes off in an unhurried fashion. Regarding the smoke.. well there IS some amount of smoke when I accelerate but i see this on many other vehicles. Will pay more attention and give you a more informed answer. As far as i know, I have not smothered the ones behind me with thick black Fog as i 'Unhurriedly' take off to overtake a lumbering truck!

The Fuel filter was changed last at the 40K service. Scheduled change. Along with Engine Oil and filter change and Still no improvement.
