Re: Help!Water getting inside car

My Ikon had various leaks (still resolving some of them). Some of the weird things I found:
1. Back carpet wet? Check the boot! A leak in there travels all the way under the back seats to the carpet!
2. Passenger side leak only? Check for wiring harness seal between cabin and engine bay.
3. Water seeps from under the dash? Clear leaves and muck under the wiper vents. I cleared about 3 or 4 years worth of muck from there. The previous owner must have been super negligent.
4. Water coming in THROUGH the door? Remove the door trim and fix the plastic sheeting.

Re: Help!Water getting inside car

^^^Someone suggested using old newspapers to soak up the water.
I also had this issue in my Baleno - water getting in the front passenger footwell. Possibly to do with the leaves blocking the drain pipe.

Re: Help!Water getting inside car - Water inside Toyota Liva

Hi friends

Two days back, it rained quite heavily in Delhi and when I was starting out for work, I found the floor mat and the carpet soaking wet on the passenger side footwell. I was dismayed to find water inside the car and all the controversy regarding water entering Etios around the time of launch of Etios twins flashed through my mind.

I remembered that more than a year back when in Shimla I had found similarly soaked carpet on the left side footwell of the back seat. I somehow managed to dry out the carpet then, and forgot about it after I returned to Delhi. I assumed I might have left some water bottle open. Since then I have driven through rains numerous times and the car is always parked under the sky in my apartment. I never faced any problem. On couple of occasions I have driven through almost one feet of water at the Pragati Maidan underpass in heavy rains without any problems. Till two days back, that is.

So I took the car to the service centre, Galaxy Toyota at Okhla, yesterday morning. First diagnosis was clogging of the area under windshield and coil top cleaning was suggested. I was not convinced because the area of the carpet which is sloping up towards the engine bay was completely dry. Then the technicians opened the door panel on the left side.

Their diagnosis is that the aftermarket speaker that I had installed in the door is the culprit. According to them, water drips onto the jutting magnet of the speaker and instead of simply going out of the drain point of at the bottom of the door, a part of it flows into the car. I was not 100% convinced but the circular wooden frame used for installing the speaker is indeed very wet. In fact a part of this wooded frame is almost rotten. I asked them to remove the speaker. One part of the wooden frame remained stuck to the door, it was so soggy.

So I am without a speaker on the left door. I don't know if I will be able to find the original speaker, which according to the service centre technicians does not have the magnet sticking out at the back. I haven't looked for it yet.

I was thinking why my car has to have this problem. Last couple of weeks has been bad for the car. One horse-pulled cart scratched a side badly. Then one mobike driver banged into my bumper when I braked somewhat hard to avoid banging into another mobike which got entanged with a car in front. Pins that hold the bumper and those parts that hold the pin are broken. And finally, a three wheeler goods carrier knocked off the cover of my right hand side outside mirror. Mirror and the mechanism is fine but the cover has come off. Could not stop to recover the cover as I was on a narrow two lane flyover.

Before writing out this mail, I just thought let me take a look at whether other people have had this problem. I somehow had taken for granted that it is something to do with Etios twins. Then I found several threads including this one and saw that others also have had similar problems of water entering into the car. Though no one seems to have had this problem on account of an after-market speker.

I am hoping that that was indeed the reason.

Its most likely due to blockage of the rain channel due to leaves, rust, dust etc. 15 k is a rip off, take it to the maruti service center, I'm sure it will get fixed at a much cheaper cost. If I remember correctly, I fixed the same problem in my Santro for 2-3k a few years ago.
