Query: Do new cars have a speed limit initially

Hi,
I have always had one question in my mind & felt that this would be the right forum to clarify it. I have often see that when you buy a new bike, there is a speed limitation such as do not exceed 50Kmph for the first 500 Kms & so on. I just wanted to know, is there something similar with cars as well or can you drive a car at 100+ speeds the day you buy it?

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Cheers..
Peets.

Hi Peets,

There is no mechanical / electronic device stopping you from crossing a certain speed limit in cars these days.
In the old days there was a device on new cars called a governor - which i believe was a mechanical/physical device which didn't let you press the accelerator beyond a certain point.

With new technology and more precise manufacturing, taking it slow for the first 500-2000km is not as important as it used to be.

However, there are still debates about whether or not newer cars need to be "run-in" or "broken-in".
