Today It was very chilled in Bangalore and I was going towards MG Road in the morning around 8:30AM. I wanted to check ambient temperature and to my surprise it was showing 31 Degrees. :eek:. Outside was lot chilled and Bangloreans can confirm morning temperature of today (06 December 2010).

Till most of the journey MID temperature remained at 31 degrees. After I reached MG Road and parked car then it was showing 29 degrees. After that it never came down to correct ambient temperature.

What could be the issue? Is anybody faced this issue? What is the solution?

Oh dont worry about that at all.
My MID temp shows -2c in Bombay in summer and sometimes 50c too. This has been going on for over 2 years and ive just stopped checking it.

Im a little skeptical of the TASS guys fixing it, out of the fear that something else might go wrong.
Its a niggle Ive come to live with.

Anyway, the sensor is on your LHS almost near fog lamp behind bumper. Maybe its lose or taking temp from engine too :)

Can I check myself? Or Do I need to visit to TASS. Is there chances of this sensor to fall if it is loose?

Outside temperature was not more than 14 - 15 degrees and it was showing just double around 29 - 31 degrees.

Power loss or jerk issue being faced by following owners of Safari as per latest compilation

I am yet to see the temperature gauge showing the right temperature. Not sure if sensor being covered in dirt might be an issue (due to its location).

Reckon this issue is there for almost all of us; just that the frequency varies. I have had it initially, but have not noticed it for the last 15k kms.

By virtue of its location, the sensor is prone to taking engine heat (as well as possibly being covered by mud/dirt etc.) thereby giving a false temp reading. For me, the behavior is very erratic - sometimes the temp is shown correctly and sometimes way off mark. Anyways, no bg deal...

I did use to face this issue in my initial days of ownership but with regular usage of 'normal' diesel and high-revving once in a while, it seems to have gone. However, it would be good if you could keep the forum posted on the outcome of the analysis, if TML does take it up.

I too have jerk issue for almost over 1.5 years in my 3L dicor

Fuel filter and clutch plate assembly was changed but that helped only for a few hundred kilometers. I really doubt these guys can solve it...the only way to neot feel the jerk is maintain high RPM which of-course is not possible in city. I have started to live with it...please dont give me hope again :)

Anuj - I think this issue has been a negative point of the Safari for quite some time. I am not sure if we can rightly term it as the turbo lag issue.. If Yes, then I think it has been an issue with Safari for long, and most reviews talk about the turbolag in Safari as a disadvantage in city driving. It was supposed to have resolved with VTT but apparently not so.

The strange thing about this issue is that it is not consistent, the lag shows up now and then, with varying frequency..

I may still be wrong - we maybe talking of a different issue here, but I tend to believe it is the turbolag, especially so since it seems to happen immediately or around when the turbocharger kicks in between 1500-1800rpm. In mine, I think the kitch-kitch-kitch noise from front right side of bonnet is from the turbocharger ( I guess that is where it is located?) with which the jerk/power lag also momentarily shows up - This is more prominent when we remain at that particular rpm when turbo kicks in - more frequently when in city driving - and not noticed when we quickly accelerate and pass that rpm band..

Just my theory.

Its irritating when it happens and really dampens the sheer pleasure of driving the beast. For me, it keeps happening now and then. I am gonna take up this issue strongly during the first service and if I am not satisfied, I will take it up to higher level. Till then. just trying to ignore it when it happens with a grunt.

Even I get this kitch-kitch-kitch sound from inside engine chamber. Yesterday I was driving without music system switched on during early morning and I felt same.

Guys this hickup is probably due to too much of EGR inlet at low RPM ,
This can happen due to carbon buildup in EGR valve / tubes,
EGR valve remains closed during warm-up/ idle and initial acceleration but opens up at high speed.
So suppose if you are driving at moderate speed and slowdown at some hump or turn and then accelarate again then EGR goes from Open ->Close ->Open and if the inlet is not clean then at the time of close more then required exhast gas is fed in causing hickup.

Open -> Close is simplification here it is not fully open / fully close but may be some intermediate stage depending on the calculated exhaust feedback.

The only way to keep it clean is to do high RPM driving once in a while or after you notice this problem. It is recommended in user manual as well.

at high RPM the exhaust gas pressure is high and that cleans up the EGR , Also it will keep the catcon clean for your vehicle.

By high RPM I do not mean burning rubber and wasting fuel but just tapping the accelerator pedal fully 3-4 times in stationary position.

If this sound is coming after a cold start - read engine not sufficiently warmed up, then it can be ignored. it is mostly the water pump pulley noise, which goes away after the engine is warmed upto the optimal operating temperature. this has been my observation, and what has been told by the Concorde SA.

The Propeller shaft of my Safari is making ghrrr.. ghr... noises above speeds of 70kmph. Any suggestion of what to do?? :) Please reply in urgent..
