HI there

I have Dec 2010 GX. The beam of fog lamp is way too low, just ahead of the vehicle. Can the beam be raised. i asked a tata guy but he told me that it can,t be done. I think its possible.
Any idea guys how??

Fog lamp reflectors are deigned to throw light very low and just a few meters. This is to prevent the light being reflected back in your eyes. You cannot do anything about the OEM fog light. You can add after market driving lights...

Even I wanted to do the same and it is way too low in my car. We may have to go to aftermarket mechanic and get it corrected. I think It can be done by
applying some thought, however there is no shortcut though.

I feel using spring screws on all four holders of each fog lamps can help adjusting. I need to find solid spring screws first.

I am sorry this is negating light principle. If light does not reflect to eyes one cannot see light at all. Please remember old school physics diagrams of lights chapter.

I think both are right. However, 4x4addict, probably means that in case of dense fog, light will be reflected back by the fog particles and you will see nothing beyond the fog. E.g. windshield in our safari- is NOT meant to reflect any light. If it starts reflecting light you will not see the road properly and cause big strain to eyes. While road should reflect (e.g. markers, speed limit boards etc). Similarly, for best result, fog should not reflect back any light. Hence, fog lights are placed at lowest part of the car and pointed downwards to the ground so that it illuminates the road below better (light needs to pierce the thinnest layer of fog to hit the road below and get reflected back to the driver's eyes). If the beam is directed up the fog particles will reflect the light and rays will scatter without illuminating any road below.

In dense fog for example if one switches on the high beam one is completely blinded by the reflection from the fog. It's not that if the beam is strong or high that it would see through dense fog, instead it would reflect back more strongly. Hence if one does not have fog lights one has to use the low beam or sometimes even just the blinkers, else the fog lights have to be used and they do need to be positioned right at the base.

We at times use the auxilary lights in fogs and they tend to be called fog lights while in reality they are just auxilary lights that reinforce the main beam.

Also fog lights are of two types ones at the base have to such that they focus towards the ground at a short distance only.

While there are other lights that use the piercing principle, (single pointed beam that does not disperse easily.) This though will never be provided as standard by any manufacturer as it's not really a proven concept for driving in fog.

Bottom line one has to drive slowly in foggy conditions and the lights provided by the maufacturer suffice for that purpose. One may add additional lights just for night driving with better visibility in non foggy conditions.

My Aug 2010 Lx had OE bumper/fog lights fixed as an additonal accessory at Concorde Bangalore, and the guys at the TASC I go to (EMM EMM motors - Banaswadi) were able to easily raise these lights. Adjusting a set of spring screws housed in the lights did the trick I guess. The lights now complement the headlamps very well. Those in Bangalore can talk to Mahesh or Afroze at EMM EMM motors, who will get it done for you.

Hi Guys

Mine is 2010 Safari GX with dark faux wood finish central console. I had fitted ambi pure car perfume on the left central vent. Due to spillage, I realised that the small portion as indicated using the drawing below has come off like layer. I didn't like it so I took my vehicle to TASS. They told me that it will cost 4400 rs to replace the panel only. I mean this is way too much.
My panel is scratch less except for that portion.

Any help guys? Don't want to put any sticker or something to hide it. Since the finish seems to be paint only, any idea of getting the finish done again.

Our one of the BHPian LukeSkyWalker has put AutoGraphix stickers in that entire console of his Safari. I am also planning to do in the near future.

Contact any of the Autographix and you can select stickers of your choice and I really liked it. Please do not go to any local stickers shop.

I too have these stickers on my Indica, none of them for Safari now. I'm planning a total different dash (cover) design tobe worked upon.:)

Having estates in the hills, I tend to drive in fog conditions a lot and hence know this from a practical stand point. No need to look up my physics text book.

I just mean to say that "Light should reflect to eyes so that eyes can see the surface or front of car under extreme condition (read fog). If it does not reflect then it is as good as dark or fog". Fog generally absorbs lights in it and hence it does not reflect to eyes so driver cannot see anything.

I agree that fog lamps are built for lighting just next to car and it should be placed as low as possible because from ground surface upto 2ft density of fog is low so these lamps can penetrate that and light should reflect into eyes. As it go up density increases and driver not able to see anything even with loads of lights.

I visited TASS last week facing same problem of 1st and 2nd gear are hard to Shift from last month other gears are okay to shift. They told me they have to check gear box, synchromesh rings and will be able to give my car in 2 days. I asked them this is just 6 months old car how can this prob be there in new car. They said there was another safari having same prob, so they changed rings. I told them of i will come later. I wanted to have second opinion. Now it seems that this is known problem.

Any more suggestions that thisproblem will be automatically solved by next 2 months as winter is almost over by next month
