v&v, open the radiator cap(once engine is cold) and check if you can see coolant inside (thats what tanveer meant).

Also coolant is definitely leaking, the location might not matter because of the plates, it can travel based on the slope and path it finds.

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Hi All,

When a Safari is parked on an incline for some duration and later if it doesn't start on cranking, what could be causing this?

The condition of the vehicle in this case was : TCIC safari, 4 years old, over 3 lac kms on the odo.

Thanks

PS: this was an issue with my last Safari when I sold it. I remembered it and now since have access to Team-bhp, thought about asking the reason behind it.

Air is developed in the fuel lines, this happens mostly when the diesel is on red line mark. Pump the diesel a few times and the car would start.

Yes, i checked both, the coolant collection bottle was at middle between min & max and also at normal temperature (cold) while idling, if you slightly twist the radiator cap, the coolant leaks from there too. Which confirms that coolant level is ok.

This leakage has been developed yesterday only. (Visible one). It could be a minor leakage was present, but was not a serious one. As i personally used to inspect the vehicle once in 10 days for these kind of issues.

Let me get this checked for leakage tomorrow and will post the update on the same

Thanks TSK & DADU

DUH!. Dont all parts come from Tata ?
Finally got to know the process for parts warranty if replaced a second time under EW.

Dealer 1 who did the 1st replacement has to provide their indent for parts.
Customer has to produce the tax invoice for the same.

Both the above are sent by Dealer2 ( who is doing the current EW repairs ) to TML with copy to the Global TPA, for the required spares, and obtains the parts under approval from the TPA.

Still awaiting parts for repairs to begin.. fingers crossed!!

Update :

My safari went for the repair today morning. All work done. Will get the delivery tomorrow morning.

Working done : Replaced water pump, timing belt , idler, tensioner.

As of now as per SA, all are covered except tensioner. Can somebody update the same. IMO even tensioner should be covered under EW.

here is the pic of parts changed.

TSK i saw this but it gets updated as per the new agreement. Is this applicable for all customer or the agreement booklet which i have signed is valid. That booklet does not have this written. But yes there is a word "TIMING GEAR, BELTS & CHAINS".
IMO this statement should include Tensioner too.

Anyway will mention about the website to SA. Also i think coolant too will be bill to me.

Write to tata motors giving link to this page(customer id), and it will be sorted out.

Lucky you, when they changed my timing belt, had to pay for the tensioner too. total cost around 3.5k. I never knew that you need to push for getting things done under warranty...sad sad

I got the recent 4 yr, 60k service done, as per the manual one should -

Change vacuum hoses fotr Vacuum Modulator, Turbocharger, EGR valve &
throttle valve at 60,000 km x OR 4 Years whichever is earlier.

I told this to Service advisor, he said its fine, not to worry, this does not require changing. Can someone please confirm.

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Hello

I have a small query, I am just posting it to be a bit safe than sorry as I am on a long trip. Its just an noob question

Safari GX comes with alpine stock HU that has an Ipod cable attachment. Since I did not have much time to upgrade my HU i decided to use the attachment cable for first time yesterday

The manual says that the cable will not charge the ipod

Now I have iphone 3gs and iphone 2g

The Hu reads all of them correctly. However with iphone 2g [which I plan to use as my ipod for the trip], the cable actually charges the phone. It does not charge the 3gs.

I am asking this to ascertain whether its normal and if it does go on charging as against specified in the long drive would it cause some electrical problems [I have read about blown fuses et in previous threads]
Can i safely use it

Regards

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Last month Booster pump for brakes changed in my Safari. I got it changed at TASS. Engine check light cmae and service engineer did some bolt loosning near brake padel and light gone. Also Hose pipe from Turbo charger to Inter cooler was changed as it was damaged with no apparant reason. After that I am feeling that there are vibrations in steering and even in engine more that earlier. RPM needle is around 950. As per mee RPM needle was around 900 earlier. I got it checked at TASS , they are saying these vibrations are normal. But i can clearly fell the difference than earlier. What could be possible reason. I asked them to Re-set ECU they said it can not be done. Pls help.

Old iPods had 12v charging interface while newer ones are having 5.5v (USB) interface. Same is probably true with iPhones too. Older ones having 12v charging interface will work fine w/ Alpine stock cable, however, newer ones won't charge. There are adapters (e.g. Scoshe powerport) that bring down 12v -> 5v to charge newer iPods too.

In my Safari I am using stock Alpine HU (DVD) with stock iPod cable + Scoshe powerport adapter for my iPod Nano (5g). It works and charges flawlessly. Something like this I use: Charging Adapter for iPod & iPhone in my car.
