Under-body wash or water wading may have actuated the electric driver to engage FWD. Have you tried engaging 4WD manually from dash switch, drive some distance, stop, and manually disengage by turning off the 4WD knob? then drive in reverse for some 10 meters and let us know what happened.

Josh
There was a retro fitment done to Safaris a few years back which consisted of replacement of the timing belt kit and the addition of rubber cover for the ECU and update of the ECU firmware.

Mine went through that and still I ended up replacing the components associated with timing belt. It has nothing to do with retro -fitment as you change the timing belt and other things based on the number of km run or the number of years. I opted to change the timing belt at the 5th year though my odo was just 30000 km at that time.

After stopping and turning the steering in opposite locks it went away on its own, but again the same thing happened. So now how to unlock it and get it to the service centre. I did try the usual reversing thing etc. But it didn't help, any clues...
If it is engaging 4x4 by its own, Next time you manage to disengage it, you can pull out the fuse for the transfer case. That will prevent it from engaging again until you can reach to the nearest service center.

Thanks BJ96 & Holyghost for the reverts. The truck is back to its normal self. Had engaged and disengaged the 4X4 and observed for last few days. No problem so far

Re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Need some urgent help from Safari gurus in Bangalore. I'm going to be in Banglore this weekend and have to get 180k service done on my Safari. Obviously, I've no idea which TASS I should go to. I'm on a fixed schedule so need reliable work done (can't do revisits) as I have a lot of distance to cover back to the north.
If possible please provide reference and contact of a good Service Advisor. Thanks guys!

180k. Wow!!

Not sure about Bangalore, but, in Pune Concorde Motors has never disappointed me. Bangalore has a Concorde too- stick to them, unless anyone else (Bangaloreans) can tell you to look elsewhere.

Thanks so much smsrini. I called these guys and they have no time to service my vehicle this week. And I'd thought TML would welcome a customer who is on a cross country road trip, and would give special prompt service. Another medal on TML's customer service reward wall.

Trying to get in touch with the state head of customer service. Hopefully he can help.

Which part of Bangalore are you staying in ? The other option I can offer is EMM EMM MOtors in Horamavu - Ring Road near Rama Murthy Nagar. This is an independent Authorised Service center. Smaller than the dealer service centers but quite capable. SAs Sridhar or Venkatesh.

For major engine related work prefer Concorde..purely from a spares availability perspective.

Thanks so much smsrini. I had a word with the customer service state head and he's pulled up some people, and fixed me a prompt appointment. Hopefully things go well tomorrow.

Thanks so much for your prompt help. BTW, I'll be in North Bangalore, hesarghatta hobli I think is the name.

If you are in Hesargatha, then the Concorde Motors Mysore road should be closer rather than kudlu gate...

Yup, Concorde Motors Mysore Road would be better. Any day other than Saturday should be fine. All the taxi guys queue up since morning on Saturdays.

Spares availability shouldn't be a problem. If Concorde doesn't have it, Prerana Motors has a Spares outlet virtually next door.

Re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Thanks for all your support guys!
And apologies for the late update, was traveling throughout last week.
Got the service done on 9th Oct from Concorde Motors. They did a fantastic and thorough job. The mechanics worked till 8:30pm to deliver the vehicle same day on my request. You guys are lucky to have such competent servicing available in your city!

OT... what's up with everyone driving on high beam around Bangalore? No one lowers them even when requested for with a dipper! And the daredevilry of 2-wheelers in that city is mindboggling!

Re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Guys, need help! During my recent drive to coastal Karnataka, my Safari was parked under the scorching coastal sun for 2 days and as a result, I discovered that the plastic cover that protects the instrument cluster (speedometer et al) has developed multiple cracks! Anyone as any idea how this could have happened?

Also, when I checked with TASS, I was told that I cannot get just the cover and will have to replace the entire cluster! This sounds ridiculous. I checked on 99rpm and I believe this part sells as part id 269968906345 (Holder | Instrument Custer). Can someone confirm this please?

Thanks in advance...

Re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Now I'm not sure if this the correct thread to post this query as it's regarding purchasing a 2nd Hand Safari. But since it's related to technical problems I though it would be right to post here. In any case I feel this is the place to get the best technically correct answer as all the Safari experts are here.
I'm planning to buy a Safari for my wife. She want's a SUV and I always wanted a 4x4 so I can use that excuse to buy a Safari 4x4. Now second hand because I want to spend as little as possible since I'll buying an expensive car for myself.
I have gone through most of the Safari threads and part of this thread too so I'm aware of the possible problems. Now most of the Safari's for sale at a reasonable price have done between 1-2L kms. Now most people say to stay away from a high milege Tata. But my reasoning is that if the previous owner has used it so much, it must have been reliable. So my question is "Is it ok to buy a high milege Safari?" What sort of problems can I expect and how expensive will it be to fix in the worst case scenario?
