Also, I noticed that the mirror assembly is moving from closed position to half-closed position freely. It is not going to completely open position either through the button or on pushing it manually.
Request inputs from fellow Civic owners on whether it is repairable or if replacement is the only option. Will appreciate pointers on possible options. |
I had my driver side motor repaired for1500 bucks. The gears were slipping as some moron at Linkway Honda forcibly closed it. The mirror was working fine before giving to Honda. Find a electric specialist fng and get it fixed. The motor kept whirring when it had malfunctioned.

Any recommendations on Manual Transmission Fluid for Civic? |
My garage had used this but I later changed to Hass and quite frankly I found Hass oil a bit smoother.

I've been topping up with the above-mentioned Castrol fluid and I've had no issues whatsoever. Where can you source the Honda one?
@All
I've just been wondering on whether I should replace the serpentine belt. That one powers the AC,alternator, PS. It's been close to 1.5 lakh kms and I've not replaced it yet. HASS and my FNG have checked it and they say it's good to go. It's not worn out or damaged. So it's probably just psychological. I just don't want to be stranded suddenly. just a curious question. Can we still drive with a damaged belt?

No, no audible changes to the whatsoever. But it's so much of a psychological issue now that I have it parked on the alignment bay everyday and get a guy to check the underside for any visible leakages.
I just went to HASS and picked up 2 litres of Manual Transmission Fluid.
MRP was 370 per litre
Guys how much realistic FE can i expect from my 2007 Automatic Honda Civic.?
Currently I am getting 10 KMPL on highways and 7-8 KMPL in City.
As a reference I wanted to know how much you guys are getting in your ATs and Manuals.?
@StallionAmit; I think you are in the ballpark, so be assured. I have het 17kpl plus once in my AT but that was exceptional. I do normally get 12-14kpl on the highway, but then I have a gentle right foot, and seldom kick in the VTeC.

I just did a Ghaziabad to Kolkata, I did 4 tank fulls i.e 152 Litres for approx 1580 Kms total so around 10 KMPL.
Last year I did Kolkata to Bhutan and Back and there I got around 9.5 KMPL.
So I guess the FE is more or less close to 10 KMPL on highways.

Professor, just out of curiosity want to know that is the "iVTEC kick" felt while driving India specific Civic (R18A engine)?
I'm asking this because even after properly warming up the engine and revving it past 6000 rpm, there was no aggressive cam profile shift and change in engine characteristics as many VTEC videos on the internet claim.
Post a little bit of secondary research done by me on VTEC and iVTEC technology, I was surprised to know that iVTEC is a fuel efficiency biased engine sold by Honda which is a total opposite of VTECs that are sold in the west.
In iVTEC, the aggresive cam profiling is generally activated on the lower rpm with the electronic butterfly valve wide open to reduce pumping losses and the higher rpms get the fuel saving (lower lift) cams activated.
Plus there is no fixed rpm for the cam profiling to be swapped as the ECM decides the same based on engine rpm and throttle input (hence termed as intelligent VTEC).
Please correct me if I'm wrong because I was expecting that kind of punch post 5-6K rpm and was little dissapointed.
Nevertheless, it's a beauty to look at and makes me smile everytime I take her out on a date.

I don't think you ought to worry so much. I'd say check the PS level every weekend and keep a bottle handy for top ups. It will be a minor leak, even if there is one. You'll notice the pump whine when the level has gone below the danger mark. Your dilemma looks different. I think you'll just have to get used to a hydraulic PS system :D

I've got a MT, 10+ years old Civic. Mileage within the city is 8-9 kmpl. Mileage on the highways is around 12.5 over 500 kms and more. Mostly Plains. If I keep it at a steady 80-85 kmph, I get close to 14 kmpl. When I take it to the hills, the mileage drops to 9. All figures with the AC running and a full load. 5 people and luggage.
Talking about mileage, my best was 17 and the least was 7 kmpl. 17 was due to a very bad spare tire, and I had to reach home 700kms away, which happened in just a tankful, speeds never went above 80.
On an average 8 to 10 in city and 11 to 13 on highways.
On a speed run it never went below 10 on highways, I'd say mostly 11ish.
I have a query. From what I know, the serpentine belt keeps the alternator, power steering pump, air conditioning running. The coolant pump is driven by timing chain I presume. So if there's an emergency, the car can be driven safely until the battery drains?
I'm asking the same as ive clocked close to 1.5 lakh kms and i don't think the serpentine belt has been changed till now. It's still in fine running condition and HASS didn't recommend a change at the last service as well. There's no noise, issues etc but this question pops up in my mind before every weekend road trip :D
Since I've been reassured that the belt is fine, I'm sticking to the OEM one as ive noticed that the quality of parts that i've gone on to replace just isn't on par with what i had originally. I've changed the engine mount twice, the mounts for the front struts twice, the bush for the lower control arms twice and so on...

Yes, it is. the engine note also changes. My son enjoys using it, but then baby_doc is in his late 30's. In fact right now I have his City AVN while he has my Civic, with him in Gurugram. I was barely doing 4000km per year in the Civic so we swapped. As he nicely puts it he is filling up at about the same frequency, but the tank takes in about 10l more!
He has changed the tyres from the old Michelin XM to a different Michelin (It had done over six years) and the car is far quieter.

I still have my OEM one, and I drive around with the spare and the pulley bearing we both picked up in Delhi just in case!!

So Laluks sir it seems you get the car serviced from FNG rather than HASS. Which engine oil do you use? Also do you get the throttle body cleaned periodically from the FNG? If you do then do you need to get the idle rpm adjusted via HDS scan from Honda?
