Re: FE Measurement - Clinical method and Practical Method

Not sure about other cars, but Renault Kwid and Renault Triber (maybe the Kiger as well) come with both - a distance to empty reading and fuel consumed in liters.

I find the distance to empty more useful and seldom look the the fuel consumed reading. Both are as accurate or inaccurate and for me, they are at best a rough estimate. Actual driving conditions (engine health, tyre pressure, traffic, ambient temperature etc ) matter a lot.

Good to hear that cars do have a Fuel consumed in litres. Do these two cars have a digital fuel gauge too ?
I wish this arrangement can be implemented in our high end cars too.

Kind of digital, I would say. The fuel gauge essentially is a bunch of LED lights. Pic below:

Edit: Found a pic which shows the fuel used screen.

Thankyou @ObsessedByFIAT. Very Clear pictures. Fuel consumed is to the nearest decimal. Impressed. This would give you an excellent idea of fuel filled vs consumed even though the Fuel Gauge is analogue. Writing to Toyota and Maruti to update their software.

But isn't that the reality? Say you have 10L fuel left in the tank.
You drive on a congested city road at 2nd/3rd gear - you may be able to drive only 50-70 km
You drive on an expressway at 6th gear - you may be able to drive 150 km!
Thats exactly what DTE (distance to empty) is showing.

Quote:
for eg your Distance to Go indicates 50 km and the fuel gauge shows a quarter tank (40ltr capacity so 10 ltr balance) the average fuel consumption is 16 km --- should I trust the Distance to Go or the fuel gauge and average fuel consumption?
I trust the DTE since current driving conditions dictate the current fuel consumption, it has nothing to do with past pattern of fuel consumption.
