5th to 3rd on a highway? I'm trying to think why I'd need to do that. For overtaking a long vehicle, do you mean? That's not one of my favourites because I don't like the jerk of a shift into 3rd at relatively high speeds.

Exactly!!!

Usually on a 2 laned highway while approaching a slow moving vehicle, you tend to slow down to as less as 45-55kmph and just at the right juncture, slotting to 3rd to overtake is a lot of fun.

Or may be, when lazily moving at 45-55kmph, you suddenly realise that you are too slow than usual, slotting to 3rd again is fun to gain that extra momentum at the push of the pedal.

Under normal cruising speeds and higher RPMs, thats a horrible maneuver just sure to kill the gearbox!!!

Also, most of the poll respondents have voted for 3rd as their most favorite slot!

Its the 5th for me. For the sedate driver and conservationist I am, the feel of getting cruise mode is such a divine feeling. All I hear is wind noise and mild engine hum. The car just glides. And of course the FE is the best.

Unique thread, Perakath. I actually had to think for a coupla minutes before coming up with an answer.

In small petrols (like my OHC Vtec), the 2nd gear rush is addictive. On the other hand, for diesels (Jeep + 220) it's the third gear that's a favorite.

in typical city driving conditions,the sound of the FFE is best in 3rd gear. because that matches with the rpm where the sound is best
