Being brought up around a few old Fiats/Premier Padmini (still have one) frequent visit to the garage was a common thing.There were many instances where i had difficulty in understanding the local terminology of many parts. On top of it the shopkeepers were/are accustomed to these terms and sometimes don't understand the correct name of parts; few from my side (all relate to Fiats/PP)
Haandi local term for differential
Dholki Silencer muffler (as already stated by someone)
Kunia the lower curved part of the body.
Kamaani the leaf spring setup
chidiyaa/ Kabootari derived from the shape of the inner dashboard side panel. It looks somewhat similar to the neck of a Pigeon.
Donga the round shaped rexine fitted on the insides of the rear wheel arch.
Thali the flat piece below the trunk.

Shockup / Shockub / Shockapser / Shockabser = Shock Absorber in Kerala.

Balloon tyre = Big Radials mostly in SUV context.

Alloyed Rim = Alloy Wheel (New addition)

Blue Halogen = Xenon.

We had a 2 wheeler mechanic in our area who seemed to be obsessed with the word "OSCILLATION". If there is any thing wrong with any part of the scooter / bike, he would say : "Saab aapke gaadi ke <part name> mein oscillation ho raha hai!!" :uncontrol

Example : If the speedometer pointer on a scooter was shaking (not stable) while indicating the speed, he would say : "Saab aapke gaadi ke meter cable mein oscillation ho raha hai!!"

Example : If the scooter / bike was not idling smoothly, he would say : "Saab aapke gaadi ke carburetor mein oscillation hai!!"

The list would go on and on... :uncontrol

I must add the most weird term used in Indian Automotive Sector according to me and its not used by a mechanic but by a company. Its called 'AAHO' - (Advanced Automatic Handling Optimizer) used by erstwhile Kinetic Motors. Com'on man I thought it was just another technical jargon used as marketing gimmick like FIRE - Fully Integrated Robotized Engine by Fiat Uno until I came to know that it is actually a Marathi word. Its heights really. Can't they used a word which can be atleast understood by everyone in our country forget abroad.

AAHO - Advanced Acceleration and Handling Optimizer and not Advanced Automatic Handling Optimizer as earlier reported by me. Thank God (or Mahindra), its not present in Mahindra Duro - 'Reincarnated' Kinetic Nova.

For the same, your tyre wala will also use the words as Tyre TAKLA ho gaya hai sahab,it means tyre has no treads.Takla or Takal means a Bald man without hair on his head :D.

Chillim should ideally mean the Air Filters.

It sounds me like carburetor needs to be cleaned and engine is misfiring on starting.

a few that I have come across

katora - meaning small bowl - to refer to the clutch drum in Scooters
foundation - engine mounts
dukkar - meaning pig - to refer to the old 1950s Fiat
khol-fitting - opening and refitting

some more

running border - to refer to the running board
peichcha - screwdriver
bataka grease - to refer to the conventional soap based grease which looks like mashed potato
batti - meaning light - to refer to the Oxy Acetylene torch

Years before, we had a car "carriage" near our house :uncontrol and they used to rebbair and also do free "pancher", water filling for radator and do helding with gas :uncontrol. Amazing thread by the way, laughed so hard that my PM allocated work again.

One commonly heard in the motorcycle world is 'dome' or 'doom' used to refer headlights or its housing or the front fairing.

Cutting tyre - Manually re tread tires available in Shivaji Nagar, Blr. The groves of worn out tires are deepened with blades and sold for 300-400 rupees.
