@NG, why dont you use a charger that can plug in into the cig lighter socket ? This way you can retain the lighter socket for use with any other accessories which use the lighter socket.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. Really appreciate it.

@wildon: Thanks for the info. Will surely visit them tomorrow.

@condor: Actually I was looking for something like what you said, retaining the cigarette lighter and using it as a charger...afraid it will void warranty otherwise. One noob question : Will the models mentioned by wildon work that way?

Charger/Powersocket thats fits into a cigarette lighter socket is available at most accessory shops, there is no need to remove the lighter socket. This applies to all cars which come with a Lighter/Socket.

@NG, such models are designed to work with the lighter socket. Try in Concorde's accessory outlet. IIRC, Prerana's accessory outlet here had some such stuff .. Concorde should also have some.

Else try out in car accessories showrooms like anshuman said.

The problem with all these mobile chargers is that they will not last long and most of them are manufactured by unknown companies in China !

IIRC, Nokia sells car chargers. I belive other mobile manufacturers too sell good quality car chargers. So better go for the company manufactured car charger than get a chinese one which doesnt long last.

The stuff from MX is pretty good, reliable too. haven't used the car stuff, but I have been using their extenders/spike busters etc. for a very long time.

Mobile car chargers from Nokia cost about 240/- on ebay.in for the DC-4 variant.

For the laptop you need an up-converter for the voltage.

Just buy a car inverter from Big Bazaar. You can plug in anything up to 200 watts in it. Should cost you anything between 1000 to 2000 rupees. It connects to lighter so no mods required.

I bought a Nokia original charger from Planet M a few days ago. Cost me 199/-.

This was small pin, DC-4. Other variants cost more.

Are you sure that you bought a original car charger for Rs.199 or is it a normal charger ?
