Hello Anil,

The ford customer care guy and the dealer said that the technical team from Ford Chennai and the dealership people will work in co ordination (maybe on video conference or phone) to solve this issue.

I would also like to know were you made to pay anything from your pocket for this change or everything was covered under warranty? If the cost was nil, then any idea as to how much would the ecu and firmware update cost if the car is not in warranty?

I did not pay anything.

ECU should cost upward of 35K, I was informed.

Not too sure how much firmware upgrade should cost, must be limited to labor, but not sure.

I had similar problem with Grand Vitara, and I too suspected the ECM. Finally throttle body cleaning eliminated the problem.

Car given to Bhagat Ford Chandigarh for installing the new firmware which they confirmed as firmware version 75. Will be collecting the car in the evening and will update what all changes are felt (drive ability, engine noise, etc).

Increase in engine noise ???
I thought the firmware upgrade was also to reduce the engine noise. Already the figo noise is on the higher side, increase in engine noise is a deal breaker. I am going to take delivery of my car today evening. Will update after that.

re: Figo TDCi: Dies occasionally while downshifting! Solved: Updated firmware by Ford

It is basically a PCM calibration that I was given. I hope it is the same as the firmware upgrade that you guys are mentioning.

It is claimed that it is the solution for the engine stalling and also engine noise reduction.
I did not feel any noise reduction(also no increase) but stalling is gone for now. Touch wood. I tried a lot of the things and places that usually gives me an engine stall. NOTHING!! No Issues No stalling just like any other car. I know it is too early to comment but I am slowly regaining the confidence on the Figo.

Anyways, I am doing a long drive over this weekend (around a 1000+kms) so I will update after I come back.

Weekend!! where are you ?

Yes it is the same thing. I am definitely getting more engine noise, I need to look for other reasons then, any other things that come to your mind guys?

Just noticed that after the software upgrade to version 75, the 'water in fuel' light does not light up at all while the key is on position II (before cranking). Will check for the same in the coming days if it lights up or not. Can you guys please confirm?

Thanks.

re: Figo TDCi: Dies occasionally while downshifting! Solved: Updated firmware by Ford

i am "supposed to have got" the updated version during my 40K service. But i dont see any difference. In fact even my stereo settings and trip meter settings remained unchanged when i wet to collect the car back. My logic says that the trip meter settings should be reset if the software was updated.

Need to wait for the next 'stall' i guess!!!

Must say that Ford are prompt to respond to FB complaints. I got a call the next day of putting up the stalling issue on FB.

I have an appointment on Saturday for the ECU update as well gearshift issue for second and third. Hopefully there's some improvement after this upgrade.

Will update on Saturday.

You two and other guys - can you post your comments on whether anything happened to the FE after the upgrade.

Also keep us posted on the engine noise.

I haven't had the stalling problem (except once) so not sure whether to just go and get it done.

Trip meter and odometer are independent of ECU firmware. They are a separate unit, I even got my ECU hardware changed, but my trip meter reading was intact. If your firmware version is 75 then it is the latest.

@vina: FE seems to be unaffected, but will have to wait until the next refuel. I was running low on fuel and filled from a reputed but non-coco pump and hence the engine noise is my presumption, since others have not reported any such thing. It was known issue for me with BP pumps.

Guys I think 75 is the Ids software version that ford uses for ecu programming and not the actual firmware. I just got it done and the ecu firmware had a part number as61 something which I was told is the new firmware. All along the software showed version 75.04 on the laptop.
