Could be oil in intercooler. The symptoms do match! I had white smoke + acceleration issues and resolution was cleaning the intercooler.

Could it be defective piston rings that's causing the smoke + acceleration issues?
Can your friend keep a check on the engine oil levels just to be sure of, just in case.

Any update to the problem being faced by your friend?
What does MASS have to say on this?

It went from bad to worse! Due to the incompetence of MASS. In brief this is what happened - Went in to get the fix for one issue but he got the car back with a half baked job done on it and a ticking time bomb for free.
He took the car in for 3rd service and for addressing the injector issue and he got the car after service and the injector issue was told to have been fixed by removing and cleaning.
So he took delivery of the car and next day he and few other friends goes to Sabarimala. On the way back he notices an unnatural sound from the engine (lucky) and he pulls over and opens the bonnet to find that the oil filter housing and the surroundings are completely drenched in engine oil! He's not very car-tech savvy and have "heard" from somebody that synthetic and normal oil should not be mixed, so instead of buying some oil meeting the grade and refilling the lost oil he pussyfoots back to Trivandrum and drives straight to the MASS.
At MASS its discovered that the oil leaked because the O-ring that fits around the black oil fiter cap was cut due to over-tightening of the cap! Its was also discovered that the timing chain was busted because of this incident.
He blasted the people at MASS and they agreed and did the timing chain replacement free of cost.
But it doesn't finish there. When the engine cover was removed it was found that there is a pool of diesel in the valley between the cam housing. It seems that they re-used some washer/bushing instead of replacing it (injector seals are not re-useable).
I drove the car yesterday and the engine felt OK, but there was this distinct but faint chik-chik sound heard inside the cabin when being driven but vanishes when the car is coasting. I doubt this has to do with the re-using of the injector seals.
This will be reported to Maruti and lets see how it goes. My friend wants it in writing that any future engine related issue would be taken care of by Maruti free-of-cost because all this happened due to the incompetence of the authorised dealer.
PS: Engine Oil light never came on. However it lights up when the key ON so it its working.
PPS: There's a related thread here about a Fiat which had the low quantity of engine oil filled by the service center after a routine service and it lost the engine. Oil light never came on in that case either as reported by the OP.

IMO, this car needs to get a proper check/diagnosis as many things would have gone wrong due to that over-tightening.
Silly on the part of MASS to be working in this manner, they are troubling the customer and loosing the reputation of both the car and the company.
The issue needs to be highlighted to get the right feedback and work on the car.

Shown is the quote for Swift -ZXI ( for a friend). Abosolutely no discounts offered and Petrol vehicle demand is back.
Any better pricing available in Bangalore bfore closing this deal?

I am having this peculiar issue, in my Swift VXI (Nov 2013) which has done ~9,800km on odo.
When I travel in the 3rd gear within the 30-40 kmph range (around 2000rpm) , I hear a fan like sound through my AC vents (even when my AC & blower are turned off). But I do not hear the same when I shift into the 4th and push beyond the 40 kmph barrier.
I am planning to take my car to the service centre this weekend for a check up. Should I be concerned about this and any specific questions that I should be asking them?
:OT On a side note, Maruti After Sales Service Team replaced my rear axle recently after I repeatedly complained of strange (dak - dak) sound from left rear side whenever I used to take a left turn. Reason for replacement of axle according to the Service Centre: "Defective Piece".
I did my 40k service for my ZDI at Maruti service masters Chennai recently and here is the break up of the bill
Parts
1) Air filter : Rs 226
2) Fuel filter : Rs 1095
3) Oil Filter : Rs 340
4) Oil Plug Assembly : Rs 74.24
5) Wiper blade : Rs 611
6) Cons (DICS) : Rs 117
7) Ac cabin filter : RS 305
8) Coolant : Rs 746.00
9) Brake fluid :Rs. 323
10) Caliper assy grease: RS 55
11) Transmission oil MGDO 75W90: Rs 887
12) MGDO 5W40 semi synth mobil: Rs 1730
13) Screen wash : Rs 40
Total Parts: Rs 6650
VAT Rs 965
Total Labor : Rs 2220 (including Rs 850 for ac duct cleaning by 3M)
Service tax on Labor : RS 226
Total Cost : Rs 10,119
MSM seems to have shifted to 5W40 MGDO from Mobil for non synthetic options which is double the cost of mineral 15W40 MGDO Shell they were using earlier.

Yes, this shift from synthetic oil to semi-synthetic has happened recently. The MGDO now is Semi-synthetic that is good for 10K kms interval and also good for the pocket.:)

Just some quick questions for the new swift owners. How much does it cost to paint the bonnet, a door and also the cost of tail lamps and fog lamps.

For each panel, I guess it would be around 2.5K in MA$$. You can try to procure the fog lamps on eBay or so - should work out cheaper (after finding out the prices). Haven't checked anything recently, so I am kinda lost on the price.

The first thing you ought to do is to take it to a different A*S*S and one which is more reputable the one which is causing you all the issues. Also, write to Maruti and tell them about the ordeal, so that can be used in future if required.

The service cost for Swift has definitely gone up through the roof :Shockked:, a bill of 9k (excluding ac duct clean and wiper) with semi synth oil is quite a lot. In comparison, my friend got his Rapid's 45k kms service done and the bill was 8600 including fully synthetic oil (4.3 litres). Dont know why Maruti wants to change gear oil and coolant every 20k kms.
