A colleague recently got a new I20 diesel top spec with the 2 airbags and 4 disc brakes, ABS with EBD etc. It also has DRLs which apparently are copied from Audi but look quite Korean.

I found that having my Yeti fog lamps acting as DRLs on last week's wet and rainy drive to Ooty, a good plus point because people can see you better.

While DRL's per se, maybe more useful in cold and dark conditions which are not so common here, I think they are a 'nice to have' but not really a 'must have' in India. Here, somehow, they come across as a bit 'gimmicky'.

I definitely agree after a seeing few of them on the roads. You're better spending your 10k on something you actually need or something which actually looks nice.

2 months almost over and first service done. I decided to give my car a paint sealent by 3M. These guys are very professional although the girl is very "saleoo" she tried hard to pitch me the annual package for 17000 odd.

Over all treatment done paint sealent, door trim guard and interior polish.

The guy (Parag Jain) said that to ensure maximum protection and to get the best out of paint sealent we need to give the car 3M wax Polish every 2 months. Cost impact

Ok a quick update im still at 3M a job of almost 3 freaking hours. The swirl marks as the sales guy says dont go away, it just fades off to be not to be visible under day light but if someone were to use focus lamps you can actually see a very faded or the hidden swirl marks under the sealent coat. But nevertheless awesome job done by them car shines like its just out of factory. :D

Hyundai seems to have quietly increased their Diesel i20 prices. I was told during my test drive that Asta CRDi costs 9L OTR Pune!!! And Sportz would cost nearly 8.6L OTR Pune.
The explanation that was given by Sales guy is the addition of LEDs (DRLs). As far as I remember earlier Asta CRDi was 8.85L. So, are these DRLs worth 15K ?

Is there any option to get an i20 1.4 Petrol Sportz version? A colleague claims he has one. He was very particular that it is a 1.4 100bhp petrol, with manual gearbox. I'm yet to see the car for myself though.

Well after reading a couple of posts I feel how DRLs look is completely subjective. I have seen almost a dozen i20s with DRLs on and it looks very nice from a distance. Even when viewed from a close distance they don't really look like cheap Chinese stuff. Just my opinion.

However, they are definitely not worth 15K. :eek:

Yea there is sportz version with 1.4 Petrol. The said version is I20 Automatic variant and comes with a VTVT variant I think. Hyundai never came out with a 1.4 petrol in manual gears or atleast they didnt in the 2012 face lift.

+1. Hyundai i20 Petrol with 1.2 L engine and manual tranny is available in all trims like Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta (O). However, they also offer 1.4 L Petrol engine with 4 speed AT in Sportz trim.

There is no 1.4 L Petrol engine option available with Manual tranny.

That was my knowledge too, but my colleague insists he owns one. Anyways, don't believe him and I have asked him to sent across some photos. Petrol 1.2 should be having kappa badging on the side!

The new iGen petrol 1.2 has a VTVT badging on its side. Unless, he has the older 1.2, in which case it would have the Kappa badging as you mentioned. In either case, there is no option of a 1.4L engine with a manual tranny.

I am picking up an i20 Magna Optional Petrol 1.2 probably this week.

I am getting it for 5.29 Lacs OTR ? Otherwise the same model costs 5.9 lacs.

Savings of almost 60k - 20k disc + 12k yr end disc + ins free.

It's a very good deal. Go for it. For a moment I thought you were talking about a used one. Stupid I am. Go for it.

Is there a way to easily disable the gear shift indicator or turn off/reduce the brightness of the MID? I know some people like the gear shift , but to me it's a bit of gimmick. I had this on a car I owned in the late '80's in the US (a Saab 900s) and was able to remove a fuse that disabled it. It was very annoying and distracting while driving at night.
