Guys,

Just back from a 2400 kms trip in my i20. Thought i should share the experience here.
Car : Hyundai i20 ASTA Crdi
Passengers : 5
Luggage : FULL Boot
Route : A'bad - Surat - Mumbai - Goa [via NH4]
Return Route : Goa - Mumbai [via NH17] - Bharuch - Ahmedabad

Total distance covered 2460 kms

We started off last weekend and got back last night. It was an amazing drive. I wont go into too much details about the trip, shall reserve that for the travel section.

Over all impressed with the car. It behaved well on NH, Ghats, SH etc. Didnt experience any lags even with full load car. Only "grudge" i may have against it is the steering, not that is horrible or something, but compared to my Punto, it feels way to vauge. I dont know if thats the opinion of all i20 owners or just me. Also, i can safely say that the AC is fantastic. My car has NO films at all and not a single person in the car complained about the AC. We had it constant set on 17.5 at all times.

Attached a few screen shots for the 'Mileage' app i use to keep track of my trips fuel expenses.

Yep, you need to get used to that light steering. Also, the car feels a bit scary at high speeds (>120kmph), especially when fully loaded and the road is very uneven with bumps. It has a bit of vertical movement. Otherwise in my 40K kms I have had no complaints with the car. No rattles (apart from the steering rattle which is gone now). Also the steering feels better weighted than before after "torquing" was done to eliminate the steering rattle.

Guys,
My Hyundai i20 nears its 2nd month Service (1200-1500kms).
My question is shall I ask the Service Person to replace the Engine Oil (used in the run-in period)? The Service Manual does not say to replace Engine Oil and I hope the same reply from them.
Please guide.

Its not required. You may get it changed during the 6month service only. Even your SA will not want you to change engine oil.

Thats why I thought it was wise to ask. The Next service for the New i20 is not 6 months but after 12 months.

Is it beneficial to change the air filter on the i-gen i20 diesel? I am currently getting 13-14 kmpl in all city running with AC all the time on. I've completed six months with this car, and she has been through the 2nd free service and engine tuning. Will a better air filter make a difference?
Also which one should i get? K&N?

Even my SA did not want an engine oil change to be done during the first service. What you can probably do a check on the engine oil at around the 5k kms mark and change oil if required then

Not sure if this is the right thread to post. Top part of my steering cover has started chipping off, and now feels uncomfortable and sticky to hold.:Frustrati Can anything be done? Or should I get another cover over it?

Guys,

Is hyundai really facing a hard time selling their i20? specially their crdi? There is an advert in todays' Gujarat Samachar [a gujarati daily] stating discounts on petrol upto 15k and diesel upto 35k.

There was a time until few months ago where by the dealers were not even offering 5k worth mats and flaps on i20 crdi.

Regards,

Nothing but the Amaze effect! I heard it on the Radio that dealers are also offering assured gifts (household electronics) and the top winner will get an international trip. It's amazing how every single car company is on their toes after Honda launched the Amaze prices.

The i20 might not directly compete with the Amaze as such but from the discounts and offers on the books it surely is facing the heat!

Though i20 is not directly competing with Amaze, the top variant on-road price of Honda Amaze sedan (with 1.5 litre Diesel Engine & bigger boot space) is almost close to top variant of i20 1.4L diesel engine with little lesser boot space (comparatively).

In that way, i think i20 Diesel is going to definitely take a big hit, unless hyundai brings down the price. IMO even the other discounts or sales offers may not be a big selling point because of above 2 factors.

I agree i20 offers more features, but from an indian customer buying mentality, value for money is more in Honda Amaze diesel.

Guys, have you have faced this issue with your new gen i20?
When I connect my iphone to the USB port for ipod, it tries to connect but after 2-3 connect/disconnect it neither charges it and neither shows up for music. Gives message 'error reading the device'. Same with my ipod touch.
I can use music from my phone via Bluetooth or Aux but the point is if its written Ipod-Usb, it should work.
Let me know if others did not face this issue or have got some solution. Planning to visit SC this weekend hoping they do not say its Apple issue.

My Ipod classic works fine when I connect it to the USB port but my itouch does not. I guess certain generations do not work with the HU and I have resigned to not be able to use my itouch with the HU. Let me know if the SA has anything positive to say when you talk to him

Can someone please suggest where i can fix a gps stand for my i20? I have a 5 inch phone, and I find it really irritating when it's somewhere on the windshield. And the dashboard itself doesn't provide a stable hold for the gps stand.
