re: VW Polo TDI Highline : Multiple Breakdowns & Replacements. EDIT : First Service done

First Update:

It was close to 11k on the odo and the car had completed a year with us on the 3rd of February, so it was time for first service. I was dilly-dallying on the dates and finally decided to get it done today.

Called VW and booked an appointment for 9.30, but thanks to my driver I reached there only by 10.30. To sum up the experience:

Positives
  • Looks like first service was carried out properly
  • Prompt Delivery
  • Interior cleaning done satisfactorily (subject to proper inspection under sunlight tomorrow)
  • Old parts including ~500 ml of unused oil returned.
  • Pre-service call to check if I need any part replacements

Negatives
  • Many complaints mentioned on job card not properly attended to. Had to follow up and get it done before leaving.
  • Suspension still makes a loud noise. Has not been rectified despite mentioning it
  • Shabby exterior cleaning. A detailers nightmare I tell you!
  • Car used for a 6km long "road test" I think they went on a jolly ride
  • Inefficient SA who didn't inform me he wouldn't be around at the time of delivery. When I called him, he said contact so and so. Apparently was on the way to the hospital. I give him the benefit of doubt

The total bill came up to Rs.9940 WITHOUT balancing or alignment, I am attaching a copy of it. A lot of unnecessary charges like GFF, mobility guarantee etc

As for the car, I didn't observe any changes other than the clutch feeling light. Will update after I drive around more.

Hi ,
I have similar experience with vw. I have done 43k 3 services done. And there is a white smoke coming from engine. I was told that vw has called back some vehicle's with such problems. Need some advice from gurus on forum. How should I approach this problem?

Re: VW Polo TDI Highline : Multiple Breakdowns & Replacements. EDIT : First Service d

having lost patience waiting for the Ford Eco-sport, i am now seriously looking at the Polo Highline variant. However i have a silly question (I guess its an easy answer but i just cant seem to think of anything), the car has a 15 inch alloy but the spare is a 14 inch steel wheel.

What do you do incase of a flat? can i drive with 3 tyres with 15 inch rims and 1 tyre with 14 inch steel alloy at the same time?

Yes you can drive with three 15 inch and one 14 inch wheel. Since both 15 & 14 inch tyre have the same diameter, there is no problem. As soon as you get your punctured repaired, replace the 14 inch with the 15 inch one.

White smoke on acceleration? I'm no expert, you can try a different bunk and see if the white smoke goes away. This is the first time I'm reading of 'white' smoke in a diesel car

I've never had to change to the spare till now but since the diameter is the same you can continue driving on the spare without any worries.

I believe white smoke comes when oil spillage happens in the turbo / intercooler. That's when the A$$ would have filled up a bit more oil than the actual spec. In case of Swift D, an intercooler cleaning would take care of it.

Re: VW Polo TDI Highline : Multiple Breakdowns & Replacements. EDIT : First Service d

The car has been sold. It was with me for close to 1 year and 5 months, the ownership review is here for all of you to see. The buyer was fully aware of car's history,he took delivery of the car today. I hope and pray it keeps him happy.

Lots of fond memories, it was the car which got me interested in detailing, the rock solid build quality never failed to impress me everytime I opened the doors. Its time to bid adieu and welcome the baby SUV from Ford in a few months!
Ford Ecosport Titanium Diesel Option will be my next car

Wonder what was the buyer thinking if he knew about the multiple issues you have faced with the car. Was the deal offered at an extremely mouthwatering price?

Re: Volkswagen Polo : Test Drive & Review

Just an update on my 2012 Polo which was sold in 2013.

I'm in touch with the buyer ever since I sold the car and it has been absolutely reliable. Not a single breakdown, diesel leakage nothing. However, recently the EGR failed and VW asked him to pay about 50k to replace it. Fortunately, i'd taken extended warranty on the car and VW agreed to replace it under warranty.

Its been 3k since and the car's been running just great. He also mentioned a marked improvement in service quality and interaction over the last two years. Whatever issues i'd faced with the car seemed to be ironed out, and it seems to be as reliable as any other car for now.
