Congratulations on your new Verna 1.6 VTVT Automatic!

I have not driven the Verna Automatic, but this sounds quite normal to me. Any automatic gearbox that uses a torque converter or even a CVT with an inbuilt torque converter gives a really solid tug forward when you put the lever in D and release the brake pedal.

This can be a bit disconcerting the first time, and it was the same for me when I first drove an automatic. But you'll soon get used to it, and will begin to enjoy the fact that you can control the car in stop-start traffic even on an incline or over a speedbreaker by merely using the brake pedal!

The forward "surge" that you feel in D is because of the torque multiplication property of a torque converter, which is a type of fluid coupling.

Automatic gearboxes with torque converters are able to provide a much stronger "surge" forward than other types of automatics (such as dual clutch units and automated manuals), and this is primarily because of their torque multiplication property.

I guess the reverse gear is deliberately done in such a way that the "surge" is much milder than the forward "surge", in order to reduce the chance of collisions when backing up.

Thanks a lot RSR , I took out her out early morning today for a 30 kms spin and as you had rightly pointed out it took me just 15 mins and 4-5 kms to feel at "home" . Although its a 4 speed auto "slushbox" its super smooth , i couldn't feel the gear changes at all. Loved the tiptronic mode , didn't miss the manual at all while my left foot was literally twiddling its thumb ! Engine felt adequately powered yet super silent.
Coming from an accent this wasnt really an upgrade in a true sense but considering it was an impulse buy due to attitude of honda and ford dealers, i am quite happy with the decision.

Hello friends , Instrument cluster in my 2015 Verna illuminates even when headlights are turned off , is this normal ? I tried using the brightness control knob but it doesn't work when headlights are turned off.
Is there any way to turn it off ? I searched in the owners manual but couldn't find anything.

Yes, this should be normal. At least, that's how it is in my (previous gen.) i20 - the instrument cluster lights up as soon as car is put in IGN mode, without even starting. And it always stays lit, night or day, headlamps / parking lamps on or off.

Do you mean to say that you can read the whole meter console without it illuminated like it is before turning the key and hence do not need illumination? Strange

Sorry to say Pixantz the instrument cluster stays on at full brightness when lights are turned off, one can only adjust the brightness level either when parking lights are on or headlights are on through the adjustment knob.

re: Review: The 2015 Hyundai Verna Facelift (2nd-gen)

Have you guys seen the new TV commercial of the Verna 2016?
Seems Hyundai have finally woken up and thought they should try to sell the Verna too.

Here's the link.

And BTW, there's a Honda City in the Ad, wonder why.

I have seen the latest Verna Ad for more than 100 times on TV but whenever it is aired I always think it's the Ad for Toyota Corolla because of that smiling grill.
I would like to know that it's only me or others who feel the same.

Your first line of the post drive2eternity is the answer for the question you have!!

Verna's only USP over the Honda City was the CRDi engine it had. With the Honda introducing the I-Dtec, the game was back in the Japanese court.

May be, the Honda City in the ad is more than just a coincidence. Hyundai may be showcasing how they over-took Honda sometime back or probably what they are trying to do now.

Well, I wouldn't mind if someone mistook my Verna for an Altis. The problem is, I sometimes find the face more similar to the Etios, and that really annoys me. I can't do anything but to just shrug off the feeling and move on. But you are right, the face now looks much closer to the Etios-Innova-Altis family than the Hyundai stable

Not really, the CRDi motor is still much better than iDtec (only lags in mileage). But overall yes, the iDtec inclusion has ensured that the City's only chink in the armor has been sealed off by Honda.

re: Review: The 2015 Hyundai Verna Facelift (2nd-gen)

My 2 cents.

I think the 2014 Verna came with Projector + DRL set up. Am I wrong?
Also, fitting the headlamps of 2015 Verna 4S may not be possible on the 2014 model as the shape and cutout are different.

The 2015 projector headlamps cannot be fitted onto the 2014 model because of the difference in shape and size of the headlights. You could however get the 2014 projector headlamps for your car.

Refer to my post in the lighting thread here....
