I would like to second you. Personally I think Volvo has some of the strongest design mojo in the business right now, producing some great looking vehicles that stay true to this industry standard family look. For reference I personally hold the current Mazda Kodo design language up there as the gold standard (I might even go to say it might be some of the best looking mass market design I've seen in my lifetime).

But coming back to Volvo, I do hope they can carve out a little niche with jacked up station wagons at least. I remember my dad didn't give the S60 a second look, but when they launched the S60 Cross Country he was all ears! Here's to hoping Volvo can build upon their great line up with the new XC40 too.

Will they be launching a V60? I'm quite a fan of the current V40 actually and think in Cross Country avatar a V40 could be marketed towards the burgeoning crossover segment in India.

Does this mean the stock wheels won't fit in the spare wheel well?

I don't think weight is an issue here considering that the customer has to anyway lift the stock flat tyre and pack it in to the boot.

The V60 is coming to the end of its design life. Maybe a V60 Cross Country might make its way but it all depends on the V90's success

It will not fit, the recess is narrow. If one has to lift the stock flat tyre, one will, out of necessity, not choice!

Re: Driven: Volvo V90 Cross Country

Just TD this beauty. It's an awesome car and I am considering it strongly.

I will have a look at the X5 as well in the next few weeks.

The interiors are beautiful and look so different to any other car in this segment.

Had a very short TD but have another one scheduled later next week. Shall advise in detail my thoughts once I have had the lengthier test drive done on the expressway.

A few pictures.

Features 6th on the most fun cars of the year list compiled by 'The Fast Lane Car'.

Also, an interesting comment from them - Volvo has somehow managed to combine three words than rarely come together -

Volvo
Lust
Wagon.

If you drive yourself majorly, go with X5. If you like to be chauffeured around than perhaps Volvo. BMW has made soft touch doors standard across the range as well the newer generation iDrive. I am not sure if they are still using older generation engine or the new B570 which is standard on 730 as well new 530 so do check, newer one picks up acceleration more like an airplane.

And remember, novelty of different interiors as on Volvo will die down soon but the grin that 3 Ltr engine gives you every time will stay forever

Re: Driven: Volvo V90 Cross Country

Great review and write up. I was actually waiting for expert report on the car. My next car would be a Volvo. Initially I was thinking about XC90, but now confusion has further increased due to this awesome product.

I guess you need to drive both and see which you like!

Hi Ajmat, your reviews are always treat to read.

I saw V90 cross country a few days ago and it looked like a 'boat on wheels' to me. (I feel, sharp front and boxy looks appear good only on a Evoque )

If the Audi is premium VW, I'd label this as premium Geely.
Whatever luxury and features it offers, Does Volvo really hold any good against 3 Germans in India(or; even outside)?

Re: Driven: Volvo V90 Cross Country

Out with the (rather wonderful) old:
Driven: Volvo V90 Cross Country-20171004photo00000145.jpg

and in with the even nicer new:
Driven: Volvo V90 Cross Country-20171004photo00000164.jpg

A few points to add to the fantastic review and our purchase:
1. Ours may well be the only petrolhead, station-wagon family in the entire city. We've had our Skoda for 11 years (and 190,000 km's) and would keep it for 11 more were it not for the NGT
2. The other contenders for the Skoda's spot in the stable were the Audi RS6 and upcoming Panamera Sport Turismo (like I said, we *really* love our wagons). We were put off by Audi's lackadaisical attitude, RS6's uber low-profile tyres (we're the adventurous, outdoorsy sort so something tough is preferred), and the fact that all RS6's in stock were going for 2.4+ big ones, an unreasonable amount for an Audi IMO. The Panamera Sport Turismo was eventually deemed too ostentatious for our liking
3. The V90's 20" wheels look stunning but the ride, particularly in India, is not great. We elected to go with the 19's (a free option) which also look quite nice but improve the ride quality some
4. This thing is so long it covers several timezones. Yet our old Skoda has more boot space; the newer Volvo's 560-liter boot is ~10% smaller than the 610-liter cavern that is the Combi's, which means our two dogs will be downgraded from first class to business in this thing
5. All our cars are debadged, as is this one
6. She (along with the E class) is scheduled to take me and my friends on a road trip in January. Expect a full-bore, petrolhead report of that
7. I do hope the V90 CC will convince other marques to bring their estate offerings to India. They may not sell that much but damn, are some of the newer ones pretty
8. I test drove the T6 (turbo and super-charged) version of the V90 CC here in the US and loved it. Not a sporty car by any means, but it certainly moves
9. We were inclined towards getting a white one (Google it, the thing looks like a Stormtrooper/my Tbhp namesake), but there's something wonderfully left-field about a brown Volvo station wagon LOL

Oh dear me!

My neighbour (and ex-colleague) has bought, what is most probably, this particular car (was the only KA regd car in the test fleet! for Rs 15 Lakhs discount.

Just hope the vigorous drive has no long term repercussions !

Re: Driven: Volvo V90 Cross Country

Airports Authority of India got a Volvo V90, the car was spotted in Faridabad today by a friend.

This looks like a private import as it has different wheels and misses out on the wheel arch claddings, which the V90 CC gets in India.

These are used as runway friction testing rigs for airport runways. Thy used to use Saabs since they were front wheel drive, now they use FWD Volvo's. Where the back seat was, is a huge wheel connected to all sorts of devices to measure friction at different speeds

Wow. Interesting.
And missing cladding - insane attention to detail!

Interesting. So why a FWD Ertiga can't be used? Just curious!
