did you push it to 120 KMPh even before the 1st 600 kms got over .. ?

In Diesels, since more torque is available at lower rpm, the engine does make more power at lower rpm. That's the pull one feels in the seat of the pants test. So, I would have to say this is not an illusion.

Really nice video of the engine. To me it sounds like the muted diesel rumbling of the Mercedes Benz E320 CDI engine. There is no mistaking the smell though. :)

I fully agree...Where the diesel looses to petrol is the rpm span. But DDSi has reasonable RPM span too ~5200 rpm.

Yeah even under the hood, the engine is so silent. The only sound you hear is the chain drive noise, probably if they had used timing belt the sound would have become even lesser. But then I will vouch for chain drive, its totally maintenance free, a timing belt cut in my Siena costed me 30k :-(.

Actually I dint push it hard. I was trying to keep it under 100 but then a minimal effort on the accelerator took it to 120. Its very hard to keep it under the limit. Actually the gear ratios are quite long, the optimum speeds I noticed for shifting gears -

1st - 2nd 20 KMPH
2nd - 3rd 40 KMPH
3rd - 4th 50 KMPH
4th - 5th 60 KMPH

Again you dont realise that you are driving fast in lower gears. When you just release the clutch and do a soft pedaling on the accelerator it touches 20+.

I have reached the first service limit of 1000 KM, left the car for service...will be picking it today. Will report the city mileage tomorrow when I refill before going on a long drive. I m going to Coimbatore this weekend, so will be adding 1000 more KMS to the odo in another three days.

It might be wrong as the service station may filch some fuel. :) In any case you seem to be in love with your car. And now the ICE is the icing on the cake. Enjoy.

However as I had mentioned in the other thread on the same car, I was test-driving this car for the second time (different example though) This car was fish-tailing everytime I was on the brakes from 100+ speeds (note I was normally braking, not slamming the brakes). The first occasion caught me a bit unawares when I was approaching a curve at around 120+, I braked to find the tail stepping out.

My intention of writing this here, is to warn you that probably this was a fault in which the brakes were setup in that particular car (as the previous car did not exhibit such traits) but if it is the usual characteristics. Just be prepared. Its nothing very serious if you know what you are expecting it to do.

You may even check if this thing is happenning in your car by maybe spotting an empty stretch of road and braking from 100+ speeds.

Hi Guys,

Confimed my Swift DDSi city mileage. In a trip of around 500 KM covered just in city in mostly 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears, the car delivered an impressive mileage of 17.5 KMPL with AC most of the time.

This actually included a Oil change service in between and couple of test drives. I'm quite impressed !!!

I had driven back on highway from my hometown and the mileage I got it 21 KMPL (only highway) with A/c on 100% of the time.

I was expecting it to improve after the first service, but actually it dint. Could be these engines are already tuned and not much of change to happen inside. Or otherwise could be because of the driving conditions. We had 5 medium built people along with full luggage. Though I did not cross 120 KMPH, I was pretty agressive in reaching to that speed, I overtook almost all cars that I saw before, so that could have made it not to improve upon the 21 KMPL mark.

Anyways 21 is not bad for me.

Worth mentioning is the highway character of the car. There was absolute no body roll, thanks to the stiff suspension. In terms of body roll it was as good or better than Fiat Siena sedan.

The suspension has improved a little, I think it has softened or my tyre pressure set it right. It handles pot holes with ease (I was reminded of Volvo bus) but it still an enemy of any spead breaker (or to generalise any protrusion). Does anyone have any idea why Swift is bad when handing protrusions and good at handling pot holes? My Siena used to be straight opposite, it used to glide on speed breakers but I had to bring down the speed when it comes to driving in bad roads filled with pot holes.
