Re: Ownership experience - My Mahindra Alturas G4

Congrats on buying the Alturas G4. I saw one while driving my XUV5OO and was blown away by its sheer size and presence. Its a good competitor for the Fortuner and Endeavour with a great pricing and good feature lists.

The experience you had at the service center happened to me as well, but at Sireesh Singasandra center. They called me multiple times when I was already at the center and my car was being serviced. LOL.

Re: Ownership experience - My Mahindra Alturas G4

Hey PKumarblore! A belated welcome to the forum from me. And - many congratulations on the new acquisition. A logical upgrade from an XUV500. Something that M&M seems to not properly market I have to say.

If you have kids travelling in the car often - I strongly recommend child / booster seats depending on age. For vehicles taken to highways & capable of very high speeds - its really a must have. Even just quick braking without any accident can suddenly throw kids off seats if not buckled in. Don't ever let them peep out the sun-roof if the vehicle is in motion. Also - the G4 has immense space. It really invites to lie down & sleep during journeys. I suggest don't get those air-bed things for kids to sleep on long journeys. Its better for them to be uncomfortable but safe all the time. Sure nothing happens as long as we drive safe. But best to take all precautions anyway. Let them hate us a bit while they grow up .

A nice review there!

Wish you & your family unlimited happy & safe miles with the luxury cruise liner on wheels. Keep the updates coming.

@Pkumarblore

I was really impressed with the Alturas! Especially the interior quality. I really hope this is a success for Mahindra and they continue to bring in similar vehicles to India.

So was I. Great to see a Mahindra competing with the likes of Fortuner and Endeavour. Wish you many luxurious and happy miles

Re: Ownership experience - My Mahindra Alturas G4

Just came across your ownership thread of Alturas. Congratulations and hope you are enjoying your ride(s), even during the lockdown period. I am pretty much in the same spot as you were last year and Alturas seem to be more value for money in the big SUV options. Surprisingly, there are no showroom vehicles to see and test drive in any of the Mahindra showrooms nearby in BAngalore. Ananth cars on B'ghatta rd and mysore rd don't have any and have no clue when they will get one. I live off-kanakapura road and would like to have a "dekho" of your Alturas, if you live nearby. PM me if you are fine with it.

Given how competition has increased in this segment with Gloster, Mahindra should be taking more interest to attract customers to it's showroom. Looks like they are happy selling Thar and Bolero !

I think even in the Alturas review thread the same concerns were raised. It seems like Mahindra & it's dealers are holding off on spending on Ssangyong products (which is only the Alturas G4/Rexton) especially considering their need to offload their 75% ownership & associated costs in Ssangyong ASAP.

That's one more VFM car (at least in my opinion) which is going to bite the dust. If only they had promoted it well, I am sure more people might have gone beyond measuring it by the badge and considered it for the features it presented at the price point.

Especially considering how the next-gen Fortuner might just cross 50 lakhs OTR, this is an opportunity that Mahindra might regret for a really long time, unless the upcoming XUV500 is an instant hit off the bat, which, to be brutally honest, is a little doubtful.

Re: Ownership experience - My Mahindra Alturas G4

Mahindra should have first improved their reputation, customer service and brand image/badge value before stepping into this segment which is north of 30 Lakh.

The G4 could have been a successful car, because it was only the third choice of buyers in the segment. (I.e. after T-Fort and Endy.) Besides it had lot to offer.

I completely agree with you +kung_foo_fanta, during this time, the G4 would have been a VFM proposition. I guess dealers might be offering good discounts on it just to get rid of it? But seeing these posts, I feel that even dealers are not keen on selling it.

P.S. Isn’t XUV300 also a SSangyong Car? It is based on the Ssangyong Tivoli. The Ssangyong brand was dead in India a long time ago, but these cars still have potential.

Glad that +Pkumarblore likes his car, how about an update on the ownership?

Oh yes! It's based on the Tivoli, highly inspired by the Tivoli... however you like to think about it! What Mahindra did was, take the Tivoli's design, align it to Indian standards and chop off a bit to make it a sub-4m SUV, for the "benefits".

But the thing is, it's highly localised & built in India. So, they essentially copied the Tivoli. On the other hand the Alturas G4 comes in as a CKD Rexton and is built up again in the Chakan facility.

So, if they do manage to sell off Ssangyong, they lose the Rexton/Alturas G4, but keep the highly popular XUV300 since it's a Mahindra product through & through.

I bought the additional 4th and 5th year warranty, AMC pack for 4 years/1,00,000 kms and assured buy back after 4 years at pre-fixed price. But they are yet to complete the paperwork for these. I understand Mahindra is doing this for the first time with the Alturas and hence there are some delays. They will eventually do it I trust. I got a decent price for my XUV5OO in exchange with Mahindra Xmart. They also threw in accessories worth 25K. Overall I got a discount of Rs.1.75 lacs including the exchange bonus and 25K worth accessories. All in all I got the G4 with the above packs for about Rs.37.35 lacs on road.
Hello Pkumarblore,

Hope you are doing well! It's been a while since we have heard about the Alturas G4.

And with the Alturas going out of production, I have heard on the grapevine that Mahindra are providing some really mouth-watering discounts (yet to be confirmed) to finish the stock.

If possible, could you please share some more details about the assured buy-back after 4 years? Like, was it a limited time offer and what are the conditions for it? Perhaps limited kilometers or no accidents or repairs?

And so far, have you had any issues with getting any spare parts or getting it serviced, in general?

Yes, just wondering if I should sink >32L into it...

Re: Ownership experience - My Mahindra Alturas G4

Hello kung_foo_fanta,

Yeah..its been a great journey so far with the Alturas G4.

I just checked with my SA. He said that there is no such official mention about the Alturas G4 going out of production. In fact he said that there was an official communication from Mahindra that they are facing certain difficulties in sourcing from Ssangyong after Mahindra's withdrawal from joint cooperation, but sales of Alturas G4 shall continue. Well, these were his words.

Mahindra is offering a cash discount of Rs.2,00,000/- plus exchange bonus of Rs.50,000 plus corporate discount of Rs.11,500/- as of now. So the on-road price in Bangalore for Alturas G4 4WD BS6 is Rs.36,71,579/-. You may get even more by bargaining.

As for the buy back, they are still offering it and I recommend you buy it if you decide to buy the G4. This is offered by Mahindra's used car division First Choice. The buy back is valid only if buy the comprehensive AMC. I have bought the 3 years/75000 kms AMC by paying an additional amount(about 89k) plus the extended 4th & 5th year warranty(about 29k). The car needs to be under AMC for as long as the buy back period is in force. So I may have to extend the AMC to 4th year and possibly 5th year since I plan to keep it for 5 years. The buy back assured price is as below:-

3 year term - 30,000 kms - 57% of ex-showroom price
3 - 50,000 - 54%
4 - 40,000 - 45%
4 - 60,000 - 42%
5 - 50,000 - 40%
5 - 75,000 - 37%

I have completed 27,000 kms so far and the car has been rock solid till now. Still feels new to me. 2 services are completed at 10k and 20k. Not a single paisa spent till now on maintenance.

Great luxurious and capable SUV. Feels sad to see it fade away this way.

Sorry, somehow missed seeing your post. I live in JP Nagar. You can surely plan a visit if you are still considering the G4. I don't know if I have the option to PM.

Thank you for the very detailed response.

I believe Kerala has similar road tax rates as Bangalore. Back in December when I checked, they were trying to sell at 38L OTR. And yes, if I do plan to take the plunge, I would have to milk as much discounts as possible.

The buy back seems like a great option especially in the current scenario. And from the breakdown, rather than the 3y/50k, the 5y/75k seems like a really good option and since the service center is barely 3kms away from my place, I think maintaining it under AMC is almost a surety.

If they are really planning on continuing to sell the Alturas, I (greedily) hope that they bring the 2021 model too, before splitting from Ssangyong completely. Or perhaps, the upcoming XUV500 would be growing into it's place.

Anyway, I have to agree with you, it's a real shame and quite sad to see such a product just being sent off like this.

How does the third row seating of Alturas compare to the new Tata Safari?
