Re: Living with a Volvo V40 Cross Country

Hi Friends,
Anybody has a Volvo V40 cross country 2018 model 1 spare rim?
One of the rims of my car got damaged after it hit side curb stone.
Or any leads where we can get it?
And I’ve Reliance insurance. They are saying insurance won’t cover rims. Not really sure.
Any leads are much appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry about that. Just noticing this post. Ideally the insurance should have the Rim and Tyre cover (not sure if you didn't opt for one) and it can come handy in such situations. The OE alloys of V40 are still expensive. When I checked last year when I had a bend due to a pothole, they had quoted 65K per Alloy. I ended up repairing the bend to certain extent but still living with slight bends on 3 alloys.

I would actually advise you to go for After market alloys from Lenso or Momo which work out to the same cost for a set of 4. Used Alloys for V40 are hard to come by and even if you get them, there is no guarantee that they are bend free. I contemplated so much on the tyre upsize but have decide to downsize to 17 inch ( Lenso or Momo) and opt for 225/50/R17 tyres for peace of mind and better ride quality.

Re: Living with a Volvo V40 Cross Country

Update -

Finally managed to remap the Volvo at 64K on the ODO. Since I visit Coimbatore frequently, I decided to do the remap at Code6 who was referred by a good friend. The map itself was done and shared from their Bangalore workshop and it took a good 3-4 hours. For Volvos, the ECUs need to removed and oddly its located in the Bumper.

Once removed, they then bench flash the ECU and update the map. I went for a simpler stage 1 tune to improve the overall drivability. It has drastically improved the in-gear acceleration and the engine now runs a bit quieter too. Power is delivered on demand with little turbo lag and overtakes are a lot more breezier now. Its made it a lot more fun to drive and I already ended up getting a challan

I am yet to put the car on a Dyno but I was told we are looking at more or less 20% gains overall. ( I am told they keep it conservative for the Volvos) This still translates to about 180 BHP and 400 NM of Torque which is Ample for the V40 ( Sort of brings to the D4 engine spec)

Some pictures from the session.

Next upgrade or rather downgrade is going to be the Wheels with 225/50/17 Tyres to get rid of the firm ride and side wall tears!

Re: Living with a Volvo V40 Cross Country

I’ve a S60 D3, and did a remap too, got 190hp and 460nm vs 163hp/400nm stock. Volvo’s are seriously under-tuned from factory itself. Planning to get some mods to make it a D5, my tuner says I just need to change the Engine Head and can get 250-270hp with 490nm (max). Can’t get more Torque because of Gearbox.

I believe so. But its also the Turbo that makes the difference between D3, D4 and D5 specs even though they share the same Engine.D4 and D5 get a bigger and twin turbo as opposed to the single Turbos in D3. And the Eight speed Aisin gearbox units have more torque thresholds than the 6 speed Geartronic units that come paired with the D3 motors. Nevertheless like you said, the base spec is still powerful enough that a simple remap alters the vehicle characteristics. I want to be able to play within the safer limits and happy with the remap so far.

Re: Living with a Volvo V40 Cross Country

Some crazy traffic these days in Chennai and an Idiotic driver brushed my Rear bumper and sped before I could do anything. I already had a dent on the rear right fender so I thought I will get it fixed this time together. I had a good experience with Touch Up People in Chennai as they did a fine job some 4 years back on front Bumper when it had some scuffs. Gave it to them and they did the job, polished and returned it in 24 hours.

Here is the Before and After shots. Its as good as OE paint ( not sure if they are sourcing the actual paint from OE) but the finish is good. The shade is Crystal White Pearl and the pearl coat is done well.

Here is the before and after.

Re: Living with a Volvo V40 Cross Country

I found a 2017 V40 D3 which has run 64000 kms. Asking price was 17.5 lacs. Considering I have zero knowledge in Volvo's and for that fact luxury cars in general, any points to keep in mind while evaluating? I haven't seen the car yet. Suggestions will be very helpful for me to proceed further.

Re: Living with a Volvo V40 Cross Country

I have 2 questions for the enthusiasts here.

I happened to become the owner of a V40 D3 cross-country last year unexpectedly. But now I have fallen in love with every aspects of this car that I wouldn't mind continuing to spend whatever is needed to keep it going.

1. My steering rack is busted. Part is on back order and I am wondering whether it is possible to get a reconditioned unit in India (I am in Chennai)

2. If I would need to do a performance remap, where can I get it done? Any particular map?

Thanks a lot

Re: Living with a Volvo V40 Cross Country

Folks, reviving the tyre discussion.

I saw that 225/50 R18 tyres are available. Are they a good option?

I was travelling outside India and didn't see your message.

Yeah using 245/45/R18 and no issues so far. Have completed 10k kms so far. I got this at Madhus Tyre Centre Wilson Garden, Bangalore.

Hope this helps

Thanks

Hi, did you install any spacers when doing this? also is this on CC or regular v40?
