Senior - BHPian | Our 2024 Hyundai Exter SX(O) Connect MT Review | Poseidon Specifications Car : Hyundai Exter Trim : SX(O) Connect Colour : Atlas White Overall Dimensions L/W/H(mm) : 3815/1710/1631 Engine : 1.2L(1197 cc) Four Cylinder, 16 Valve DOHC Kappa BS6 (Petrol) VTVT Fuel Tank Capacity : 37 Liters Wheels/Tyres : 175/65 R15 Diamond cut Alloys (Spare - 165/70 R14 Steel) Max Power : 83 bhp @6000rpm Max Torque : 113Nm @4000rpm Boot Space : 391 liters Year of Manufacture : 2024 (September) Dealership : Advaith Hyundai, Mangalore Date of Delivery : September 25, 2024 Likes: * Superb and Reliable 4-cylinder Engine in a segment where all manufacturers have "downgraded" to 3-cylinders in the segment. * Unique H-shaped DRLs. * Bright & airy cabin. Opening the sunroof blind makes it even brighter. * Being a Hyundai and especially being serviced by Advaith Hyundai, it would be relatively easy and niggle free to own. * Loaded to the brim with Creature Comforts and features. Dislikes: * Manual Day/Night IRVM (i/o automatic) * Lack of front armrest * The tyres look too thin and tiny(especially when viewed from the rear and sides) * No Wireless Android Auto/Apple Car Play support * No auto up for driver's side window Requirement: A spacious and feature packed Hatchback-type car in the range for Rs 10-11 lakhs to replace Our 2020 Toyota Glanza(Link (Super Hornet | Our 2020 Toyota Glanza V MT | EDIT: Sold!)). The Glanza had been flawless in it's four years of ownership. It was in great shape after nearly five years of ownership and 66K odd kms on the odometer. The support from the Toyota ASC(United Toyota, Mangalore) was decent too. However, my dad started having back issues recently and because of the low seating of the Glanza, was not comfortable in the car - he was having a lot of trouble getting in and out of the car and for him it was not a pleasant experience. With no practical way of addressing his concern, we decided to let the Glanza go and look for a car that offered a higher seating position, good ground clearance and offered good cabin space. Our nearly 5 year old Glanza couple of months before we sold it So, The basic requirement was to have a spacious car that : *has a higher seating position. *is capable of handling the deteriorating condition of roads reasonably well. *has a smooth engine that offered a fuss free & smooth driving experience like the Glanza. *has almost all features that the Glanza had. *capable of seating four adults and two small kids comfortably. *decent after sales service support. Why Manual and not Automatic I wanted a Manual Transmission variant because the car was to be driven mainly in the city and for occasional highway drives. Mangalore does not have as much bumper to bumper traffic as say Bangalore or Mumbai. Also, apart from the higher cost factor, an AT cannot return the same FE figures as an MT. Besides that, not really a fan of ATs and I prefer MTs when I drive. Cars Shortlisted: 1. Hyundai Exter 2. Tata Punch 3. Renault Kiger 4. Maruti Swift 5. Toyota Taisor 6. Nissan Magnite Hyundai Exter Visited Advaith Hyundai, Kuntikana to have a look at the Exter where I was greeted by their Sales Executive Ms Lavanya Shetty. She showed me the display car(a Red SX) and politely explained the features. I was offered a Test Drive but as the TD car was an SX(O) Connect AMT, it did not make sense for me to take the TD of an AMT. Having owned an i20 and Grand i10 powered by the same 1.2 Kappa engine, I knew how smooth the engine was. I was impressed by how feature packed the car was - the placement of buttons, the seating position and the very roomy and bright cabin, though I knew it was nothing but a Grand i10 Nios/Aura cabin wise with slightly more headroom. Six Airbags were standard on all variants, Cruise Control & sunroof are available from mid-variant onwards. From the outside, it gives you an impression of it being bigger than it actually is. Thanks to the sunroof(when the blind is opened) and the high roof, the cabin felt very roomy and airy. I was interested in the top of the line SX(O) and SX(O) Connect. The SX(O) Connect offered a factory fitted dual channel(front & cabin facing) dash cam, 8" HD infotainment system, Bluelink, OTA Updates for inbuilt Map & Infotainment, Connect features using mobile app and factory fitted mud guards (which I though was weird, as the lower variants do not get it). I am not a fan of Dual tone(Black roof) because of Mangalore's heat and so it always going to be a single tone colour for me. Took the price list and headed to other showrooms to evaluate other cars. The Single tone Exter SX(O) was 11.14 OTR & SX(O) Connect was 11.96 OTR Mangalore. I liked what I saw and promised to get back to them. I did not consider the other Hyundai dealership in the city - Kanchana Hyundai because I do not have a favourable opinion about them, having discovered some very unethical practices practiced by them in 2015( which I had written about in my i10 thread here (Stormtrooper - 2015 Hyundai i10 Sportz 1.1L). With Advaith Hyundai, Mangalore, I have had a very great and satisfactory experience while servicing our previous Hyundais - a 2009 i20, 2008 Santro, 2014 Grand i10 and a 2015 i10. Their after sales service Support had been fantastic and at times they went out of their way to resolve issues with our cars and most importantly, I have trust in them that they will handle my car with care and competence. It was also good to see familiar faces in their Service department - some of whom have been promoted. The only reason why I did not consider a Hyundai after 2015 was because I found their designs (especially the oversized grilles and sharply shaped headlights) not to my liking (I bought a 2016 Figo & 2020 Glanza in the interim). The Exter is a Hyundai design that I liked after a long time. Tata Punch Cauvery group had opened a Tata Showroom at the same location where they had earlier operated a Ford dealership (till Ford exited India). My experience with Cauvery Ford during my Figo Ownership(Link (Storm Shadow: 2016 Ford Figo 1.2L Ti-VCT Titanium+. EDIT: Now Sold)) was great and "Cauvery" Tata was the only reason why I considered the Tata Punch. I did not consider visiting the other Tata dealership in Mangalore - Auto Matrix because of an unsatisfactory experience with them while evaluating the Altroz in 2020. One of the things that struck me about the Tata Punch was the large number of variants and sub-variants - which were confusing to understand. A TD was offered which I took. Initial pickup from standstill was a little weak (at higher RPMs, it was quite good though). Bien ga 3-cylinder, the smoothness of the engine was much more than I expected, but the clatter of a 3-cylinder engine was certainly being felt- it felt more like driving a diesel while accelerating. The TD car, which seemed to be a mid variant, had retractable individual arm rests for the front seats but this feature seemed to be lacking in the top variants - which was again confusing(no front central armrest console either - which was added in the refreshed Punch variants after I purchased the Exter)! The cabin felt rather simple , the speedometer outdated and the touchscreen for the infotainment system tiny. I liked the high seating and driving position, the rear seat seat felt dark, cramped and claustrophobic. Out went the Punch from the reckoning. The top of the Line Punch variant - Creative and it's confusing sub-variants were being offered only in Dual Tone(DT). Creative DT -11.15 lakhs, Creative DT SR(Sunroof) - 11.68 lakhs, Creative Flagship DT - 12.04 lakhs Renault Kiger At the price range, the Kiger seemed like a very attractive proposition and I visited Enoch Renault showroom in Kulur. However in my budget only the 1.0 NA trims seemed to fit. The Kiger has an imposing presence and looks and feels like a much bigger car. Shape wise, it looked like a bigger Kwid. The high ground clearance, seating position and features in the RXZ variant seemed perfect for my requirements. The cabin felt very roomy and bright as well. I took a TD and the first thing that I noticed was the trouble I had with the driver's side seatbelt. Buckling it was a pain because of the large central storage console. The footwell felt very cramped with no space to left my left foot and also a footrest was missing. Starting the engine, the harshness and vibrations were immediately apparent. The car has three drive modes - Eco, Normal & Sport. In the Eco mode, it seemed as if the car almost did not want to move and as if there's no power. Switching to Normal or Sports mode made it better but still the vibrations and harshness of the engine was the biggest negative of this car. During the TD I also noticed a lot of rattling noises from the dashboard and suspension. Although the huge Ground clearance meant that I would not have to worry about scraping the bumper and underside of the car in big potholes or speed breakers, The ride was nowhere as comfortable as my Glanza's. Even the slightest undulations on the roads were being harshly felt in the cabin. There were quite a few rattles from the cabin as well. The car almost seemed to almost "crash" into even small potholes with a loud thud. To make matters worse, after finishing the TD and while reversing the car into the dealership's parking, it felt as if the entire car was shaking while reversing - something that I had not experienced in any other car I had driven - the car seemed to have no power! And the last irritating part - even after turning off the car, the doors did not Unlock, like they do in other cars. The car has to be unlocked manually! The top of the line Turbo RXZ MT(which has a far more responsive engine) was going above budget - 12.43 lakhs, while the 1.0 NA RXZ MT was 10.93 lakhs. Other than the engine, in the price range, I liked what the Kiger offered - a big SUV like stance with lots of space and practical storage spaces inside. If only the engine had been better!! I also took the opportunity to visit the dealership's workshop and speak to the Works Manager. The workshop looked very shabby, disorganized and cramped. I wanted to know if the mud splash issue under the tail lamp that existed in Kigers earlier has been resolved effectively or not. He had no clue what I was talking about and was blankly looking at my face. The sales executive had to intervene and said it was an issue earlier but has been resolved by Renault in new production cars. When I asked him about dashboard rattles and their ability to fix it - his answer was - if you drive on bad roads(the word he used for such roads was Gujiri, which loosely means bad(scrap) in Tulu) such rattles will occur, we cannot do anything about it. I thought - for more than four years, I was driving a Glanza a car that had a reputation of developing dashboard and panel rattles, but in my car it didn't even on bad roads. The major rattle issue from the steering was taken care by the ASC under warranty. For a Works Manager to speak like this that cannot do anything about it - this statement was enough for me to not consider Renault. With such an attitude of the works manager and therefore the workshop, I was sure that the ownership experience would not be a pleasant one and will turn out to be a nightmare later. I did not want to repent later because of such poor attitude and after sales service support. Although Renault was offering upto 7 years/1,40,000 kms warranty(extended) on the Kiger, I still felt it was too big a risk to go with such a dealership whose service center had an attitude like that. The other thought about the Kiger that was troubling me was was the resale value - What if after 3-4 years I wasn't happy with the car and wished to sell it, will I be able to get a decent price for the car? Unlikely! Out went the Kiger! *Renault's was the only dealership that gave an the old school hard copy o the brochure - which I felt was a great thing. All the others had either given xerox copies of the brochure or sent a digital copy of the brochure by whatsapp. Maruti Swift It was more out of curiosity than anything else and I visited Bharath Arena in Kuntikana because of the new Swift launch. There was a Red/Black Dual Tone Swift ZXi+ on display. For some reason, it reminded me of him. I don't mean this in any negative way. The Swift is a great car and has been a powerhouse in the segment which it will continue to be with the new launch. *Those of us who watched WWE in the early/mid-1990s(WWF back then) would recognize him as Yokozuna- the bad guy wrestler from Japan. The features were impressive, but the lower stance meant it had the same low seating issue as our Glanza. However, I decided to take a TD to see what the new & much vaunted 3-cylinder engine felt like to drive. The TD car was not available and I was promised that they will bring the car to my residence the next day - which did not happen. The top of the line ZXi+ Dual tone MT was quoted at 11.40 lakhs. Two days later, I again asked them about the TD. Again they said the car has gone out and was not available. On the fourth day, I again visited the showroom for a TD - again the same reason - the car has not come back from a demo in Puttur (around 50 kms east of Mangalore). Looking at their seriousness and the low seating issue, I abandoned the thoughts of considering the Swift. Almost a week later, they called again to say the TD car is available and they wanted to bring to car to my residence for the TD. By that time, I had already decided which car to buy! Toyota Taisor Again, this wasn't in the reckoning seriously and would have gone over budget, but I wanted to have a look at it (being an upsized Glanza/Baleno). I visited United Toyota in Padil and asked them if they could evaluate my Glanza. While was looking around the Taisor, none of the sales executives showed up (to be fair to them, they may have been in a meeting, I am not sure). More than half an hour passed, the guy who took my Glanza's key from me for "evaluation" did not show up. When I asked at the reception counter about this guy and my car's key, I found him relaxing in his chair. Sheepishly he came up to me and said - Sir we can offer 5.15 for your Glanza - to which I said - it was too low, and walked off. If Toyota is unable to offer a good price for a car that has been immaculately maintained and serviced from their own workshop, what was the point of considering a Toyota (I know, just like my Glanza, the Taisor is a rebadged Maruti Fronx) Nissan Magnite Around the same time, my brother told me that the Pai Sales group (who are a big group in Mangalore and are an authorised dealer of Suzuki two wheelers in Mangalore & Udupi) was opening a Nissan dealership in Mangalore and that their workshop was near his flat in Kulur, Mangalore. While coming back from the airport one day, I decided to drop by this facility as I thought their showroom would also be in the same building. I was told that their new showroom would open shortly in Kottara and this facility was going to be their workshop(at different points in time in the past, this facility was a Renault Service Center, a Mahindra First Choice workshop and lastly, a self driven car rental service operated from there before shutting down). However, the sales manager who was conducting training for the sales executives invited me in and showed me a line up on Magnites(pre-facelift) on the workshop floor and explained the variant wise feature in detail. The XV Premium variant looked very good and feature loaded and was slightly cheaper than the Kiger RXZ. As the Kiger and Magnite were based on the same platform and powered by the same engine and gearboxes, I felt driving experience would be similar. However he apologized that he could not offer a TD as their showroom had not opened yet. He took my number and promised to get back to me when their showroom opened. The call never came and as I was unsure of Nissan's ASC, out went the Magnite as well. * My younger brother ended up buying a Red Magnite Facelift mid-variant(N-Connecta) from this dealership in October. While driving his Magnite, I felt the same 1.0 NA Petrol engine that does duty on the Kiger, felt much more smoother(lesser vibrations) and more responsive in the Magnite. The car also seemed to be behaving better on bad roads. Exter - The Winner Although price-wise, the Exter was the costliest and was over budget [SX(O) Connect variant], I felt the Exter satisfied all my requirements 1. High seat position than the Glanza- which makes it easy to get in and out 2. Can comfortably seat 4 adults and two small kids 3. Decent Ground Clearance 4. Smooth and silent Engine that offered a vibration-free driving experience for a sedate driver like me 5. Reliable and excellent After Sales Support (from Advaith Hyundai, Mangalore) 6. Four additional airbags was a bonus safety wise I loved the fact that the car came with a factory fitted dashcam, the sunroof is a bonus - I am not going to use it(except may be opening the sunroof blind to let more light in). TPMS is great too to keep an eye on the tyre pressure. The Fully digital speedometer looks really good - the only irritant I found was absence of time display on it(which the Glanza had) . The 8 inch infotainment system is loaded with Features(is a fingerprint magnet though). The inbuilt maps(from Mapmy India) is a capable substitute for Google maps. The only things I was going to miss badly in the Exter(compared to the Glanza) is the Glanza's UV cut glasses, which helped in reducing heat and the sunlight glare and the puddle lamp on the door. I made up my mind to go for the SX(O) Connect for the extra features and the HD infotainment system it offered over the SX(O) - later I discovered it was capable of playing videos too- which is a rarity on factory fitted infotainment systems. During negotiations with Advaith (Ms Lavanya Shetty, SE and Mr Mahesh, TL) I was offered a discount of nearly Rs 42,000 and the OTR price for my Exter SX(O) Connect was quoted as 11.47 lakhs. Ex-showroom Price - Rs 9,55,900.00 Total Discount - Rs 27,500 Total Ex-showroom price - Rs 9,28,400 Road Tax - Rs 1,48,549 Nil-dep Insurance - Rs 44,315 (3 years TP + 1 year OD) Regn & HP charges - Rs 2,662 Extd Warranty (4th & 5th Year/1,00,000 kms)- Rs 12,153 Fast Tag - 650 Hyundai Shield of Trust (5 years/60,000kms) - 10,999 Total - Rs 11,47,728 "Hyundai Shield of Trust" is a package that covers replacement of wear & tear parts and other parts like Clutch Disc, Clutch Bearing & Assy, Bulbs, Fuses, Brake Pads & Discs, Wiper, Suspension bushes etc (parts that are not covered under warranty). These parts can be changed any number of times during the coverage period. Extended Warranty is a must for cars these days that will save you from a heavy expense later in case of a part failure. Paid the booking amount of Rs 10,000 and as I had shortlisted Single Tone Atlas White or Ranger Khaki(Hyundai's signature Olive green colour) as the colours for my Exter, I asked them to confirm the ready availability of SX(O) Connect in those two colours. There was Ranger Khaki ready at one of their sister outlets but it was a July manufactured one, while a white SX(O) Connect (freshly manufactured), they could arrange within a week to ten days. As the bank loan formalities were anyway going to take a week's time (because of a holidays in between), I asked them to get the White one for me. Hyundai Mobis OEM Acessories: 3d cabin mats - Complimentary from the dealership (standard carpet mats came free with the car as well) Scuff Plates - Rs 928 3D Moot Mat - Rs 1163 Seat Belt Cover - Rs 370 Seat Covers(Airbag compatible) - Rs 6483 3M Under chassis coating(5 years warranty) - Rs 2717 With this, the Exter became the sixth Hyundai we owned in our family over the years and the third car we bought from Advaith Hyundai, Mangalore: 1. Accent GLX 1.5 MT (2001-2007) - GJ11 (Veraval) - Shreenath Hyundai, Rajkot 2. i20 Asta 1.2 MT(2009-2014) - GJ11/KA19 (Veraval -> Mangalore) - Om Hyundai, Junagadh 3. Santro GLS 1.1 MT (second hand : 2011-2015) - KA19(Mangalore) - Second Hand 4. Grand i10 Asta(O) 1.2 MT (2014-2022) - KA19(Mangalore) - Advaith Hyundai, Mangalore 5. i10 Sportz 1.1 MT(2015-2016) - KA19(Mangalore) - Advaith Hyundai, Mangalore 6. Exter SX(O) Connect 1.2 MT (2024) - KA19(Mangalore) - Advaith Hyundai, Mangalore *In the hindsight, the Kiger RXZ MT may have ended up costing under 12 lakhs (after discounts) - which would have brought it closer to the Exter SX(O) Connect's price and therefore may have been a better fit than the Exter (price and VFM wise) but there is a big question mark over Renault's after sales service support and they are miles behind Hyundai in that department. With the Exter, I know I will have complete peace of mind, thanks to the brilliant after sales service support from Advaith Hyundai, Mangalore - an important criteria for me in every car I purchase. Senior - BHPian | The Big Day D-day - September 25, 2024 The car allotted to us was September 2024 manufactured . The car arrived at Advaith Hyundai's huge stockyard facility(and new service center) in Baikampady Industrial area on September 18/19, 2024 and I was informed about it's arrival. The car during PDI on September 21, 2024. The car ticked all boxes of the Team-bhp checklist. Mileage reading on the car was 7 kms. The Loan was applied with Karnataka Bank who were reasonably quick in sanctioning the loan. My earlier car loans were with Canara Bank but I stopped banking with them and swore never to give any business to them because of their poor customer service, lack of business sense and their pathetic "chalta hai" attitude towards serious complaints. After the disbursement of the loan amount by Karnataka bank, the delivery was fixed for the evening of September 25th at around 5:30 PM. Advaith Hyundai's showroom/service centre in Kuntikana, Mangalore: The delivery ceremony was excellent. I knew with Advaith Everything was going to be perfect thanks to their brilliant staff. Everything was done step by step in a very well organized manner by Mr Mahesh and Ms Lavanya and the car was delivered within the promised time. There was a Black "Knight Edition" Exter SX standing for delivery besides our white Exter - an interesting contrast. All the formalities were completed and little delivery ceremony was memorable. The registration plates were fixed on the car on number plate frame. Additional Registration Blue sticker and Fast tag from SBI were stuck on the car's windshield. The car ready for delivery: The GM(Sales) of the dealership - Mr Suman Kodialbail With Ms Lavanya Shetty, Sales Executive and Mr Mahesh Prabhu - Team Leader - one of the old and experienced hands in Advaith Hyundai. A photo frame and a box of chocolates - Gifts from the dealership. The car's RC came by registered post on November 04, 2024(40 days after registration) Last edited by skanchan95 : 17th December 2024 at 20:45. |

Senior - BHPian | Initial Driving Impressions Initial Driving Impressions The Exter is powered by more or less the same 1.2L Kappa engine that first came to India on the first gen i20 in 2008. Over the years, it has been tweaked and upgraded. Having experienced this engine in our 2009 i20 and 2014 Grand i10, I was familiar with how it performs and how smooth and silent it is to drive. Being a four cylinder engine, it is refined, quiet and good for city driving. At idle, it is so silent that it become difficult to say if the engine is running or not. Even at higher speeds, the engine noise is barely audible. At a time, when all other manufacturers in the segment have shifted to three cylinder engines, it is nice to see Hyundai sticking to its reliable 4-cylinder engine. 1.2L Kappa engine in the 2009 i20 and 2014 Grand i10 that I have driven in the past The car pulls well in higher gears at lower speeds and shows no signs of stalling while doing so, which is a boon in the city. The gearbox is pretty slick and slots into gears well. The clutch feels very light to use and the brakes are good. It is no highway scorcher but it does the job of being a city car well. I am a sedate driver and even on highways, I prefer to drive at sane speeds of 90-100 kmph. The six airbags/ABS or other safety features in the car will not guarantee 100% survival in case of an accident on our roads where road sense and etiquettes are non-existent in 90% of the road users. So, I quote what I had quoted in my Glanza ownership thread again - No car is "100% safe" if you drive irresponsibly or at insane speeds on our roads. One must not blindly believe in a car's build quality & higher crash ratings and use it as a license to drive rashly or carelessly, thinking they are safely cocooned in the car. The Exter is best driven at sedate speeds of around 80-90 kmph and it will you get optimal FE figures at those speeds. The ride is quite comfortable and the car handles potholes and undulations on the road well enough, minimal amount of jerks are felt inside the cabin. For some reason(probably due to poor noise insulation in the rear wheel wells), water splashes and small pebbles hitting the rear wheel well felt very loud(even from the driver's seat). This is not the case with the front wheel area. Interiors The Cabin. The car comes with all black interiors(with silvery white inserts on the dashboard and a/c vent surrounds - this insert colour depends on the exterior color of the car) Widthwise, the cabin is narrower but the plastics used in the cabin felt better than the Glanza's. The cabin is very quiet and the outside noise insulation is pretty good. The only issue I noticed is that during rains, water splashing sound is pretty loud from the rear wheel wells. On the safety front, the car is equipped with Six Airbags (dual front+ curtain+ front seats), ABS with EBD,ESC & Brake Assist. The doors lock automatically at 20 km/h. The steering wheel has tilt adjustment and is not telescopic. I chose to install steering wheel cover on the leather wrapped steering wheel as my palms are quite sweaty and can easily damage the steering wheel leather in the long run. The steering is very light and effortless to use in the city and while maneuvering the car into tight parking spaces. It expectedly becomes heavy as the speed increases. The seating position is high with end of the bonnet visible. Automatic Climate Control A/C console. The A/C does the job of colling the cabin well, but have to see how it does in the simmering Mangalore heat in March/April. The A/C can also be operated through voice commands(A/C On/Off, Set A/C temperature to _ degrees) on the infotainment system. The A/C can also be operated using the Infotainment system through a a graphics filled interface that has touch support. Individual cabin lights for the driver & passenger( the middle switch is to operate sunroof). The central dome lamp behind the sunroof. Electric Sunroof - The sunroof can be operated through the button between the cabin lights or using voice commands (Open/Close sunroof). Front Seats- They are compact but comfortable, with fixed headrests. Under thigh support is ok. The driver's seat is height adjustable. Airbag Seat Covers are Hyundai Mobis OEM with gap for airbag deployment, fitted at the dealership before delivery. Both front seats have weight sensors to trigger the seatbelt alarm. The car is equipped with seatbelt warning buzzers for the front seats and a warning is displayed on the speedometer in case either or both front seats are occupied and seatbelts not fastened. If the rear seatbelts are not fastened(regardless of the rear seat being occupied), there is a visual warning on the speedometer for each of the three rear seat seatbelts. 3rd party Front armrest. Wish Hyundai had given a factory fitted one like how Tata did on the recent updates to the Punch. Rear A/C vents + charging port Rear Seats. No 60:40 split. The seat is very comfortable, the recline angle is a bit too much and three adults is a tight squeeze. The Punch had an armrest for the rear seat but the seat isn't as wide as the Exter's. There are adjustable headrests in the rear seat. The IRVM. It gives you an initial impression that it has auto dimming feature, but it doesn't. It is a manual day/night mirror with Telematics switches (SOS, RSA & Bluelink). Engine On/Off Push Button. Below it are the buttons for Traction Control On/Off, Rear Camera View (if you want to view video feed from the rear camera on Infotainment System i.e without engaging the reverse gear) and Headlamp leveller. The door sill guard(fitted as an accessory for all four doors) Power window/mirror control panel on the driver side. The driver window has one touch Down feature(No Auto Up). The wing mirrors are electrically adjustable & foldable. The mirrors have a "welcome" feature where the mirrors unfold when you come near the driver's side door with the key. The mirrors automatically fold when the car is locked & automatically unfold when the car is unlocked. Boot Space - 391 litres. 3D boot mat The Boot Light The hatch door gets a separate keyless unlock switch(the rectangular button). Neatly designed grab handle to pull the door down. Cooled Glovebox. There is open space above the glovebox to store small things Footwell. Unlike the Magnite/Kiger's footwell, there is enough space in the Exter to rest your left foot besides the clutch and there is a pretty usable foot rest as well. There are blue coloured footwell lights for the front - driver & passenger. The steering mounted controls. Left side is for the audio & telephony controls . Cruise control & MID controls on the right side. Last edited by skanchan95 : 17th December 2024 at 20:45. |

Senior - BHPian | Speedometer & Connected Car Features The big windows make the cabin a very bright and airy place to be in. Opening the sunroof blind makes it feel even more brighter. The chunky spoiler is in piano black finish Digital Speedometer Unlike traditional speedometers, the entire display is fully digital. While the display is crisp and has all the necessary information, I miss is a Clock(Time display) on the speedometer. It had become a habit for me to check the time on the Glanza's MID. In the Exter, I have to look at the Infotainment system to know what time it is. It displays outside temperature as well. The speedometer on boot up(Ignition/Engine Start). The welcome screen on the speedometer shows an Exter while performing "system checks". The MID display modes can be toggled use the page button steering mounted controls. The Fuel quantity level and Engine temperature display are neatly placed on the lower corners. The Blue color surround on the speedometer can be changed (Red or Greenish Blue) using settings in the infotainment system. The MID has three modes - 1. It shows FE figures and other details(Current Trip, Since Refueling & Since Last Reset) If you are playing music through the USB, Bluetooth or Android Auto, a change in track name is shown on the MID. Same is the case while switching FM stations. 2. TPMS - Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (in psi, can be changed to other units in the settings) 3. Navigation Be default, It shows a compass But when used for Navigation with the inbuilt Navigation map, it shows Navigation directions (with voice guidance). This Navigation display feature on the MID does not work with Google maps though. In case any door, boot or bonnet is/are open or not closed properly, the Exter graphic on MID shows which door, boot or bonnet is/are open. Rear parking sensor display on the MID [the video feed for the reverse camera is displayed on the Infotainment system and it gets adaptive parking guidelines (in blue)]. The car gets only two reverse parking sensors around the mid-bumper area and nothing on the bumper corners. Connected Car Feature It also gets connected car features using the Hyundai Blue link app app. For the Connected car/Blue link features to work, the car should be in an area where mobile network is good. The car comes with a 3 years subscription for the Blue Link & Connected Car features. Bluelink/Connected Car available on the Exter detailed here: https://www.hyundai.com/in/en/hyunda...elink/overview Using the app(the car does not need to be on but it should be in a good network area), you can remotely Lock/Unlock, Switch on car's Lights/Horn(there's no feature to turn on the engine though) . Your driving behaviour - Top speed. Average speed, distance travelled etc gets recorded by the car and then communicated via the app. The car has to be in an area where network is good for this to work. The app shows exactly the car's location on the map and if the car moves, it gets updated in real time provided the car is in a good network area). It also has features to support Geo Fencing, Overspeed alerts. Maintenance Alerts etc Last edited by skanchan95 : 17th December 2024 at 21:43. |

Senior - BHPian | 8" HD Infotainment System with Bluelink 8" HD Infotainment System with Bluelink The centerpiece of the SX(O) Connect variant is it HD infotainment system that supports Voice commands( Both Hindi and English commands work) and Connected Car features. The touchscreen is extremely smooth and has no lag. The SX(O) Connect's Infotainment User Interface is also different compared to SX(O) and lower variants. The List of Voice Commands supported by the system(details at the end of this post) - Telephony, Open/Close Sunroof, Controls for the A/C, Navigation for the inbuilt maps, General features like Weather, Cricket Scores etc. Apart from FM/AM, USB, Bluetooth, the system Supports Wired Android Auto & Apple Carplay. It was a big disappointment to see no Wireless Android Auto considering rivals are giving it in their cars, plus the Exter gets wireless charging too. The screen of the infotainment system unfortunately is a fingerprint magnet and the fingerprints are easily visible on the screen (something which was not an issue with my Glanza's infotainment screen) The Main Screen - Skeletal Map in the background Stock Maps/Navigation by MapmyIndia(supports voice commands for Navigation). The ETA(destination) shown on the screen is more or less accurate. Unlike Google maps, it does not seem to show live traffic. Like Google maps, it quickly re-routes you if you miss a turn on the way to the destination. Navigation Screen for the inbuilt maps The inbuilt maps gives visual (on the speedometer & on the map screen) and audio traffic warnings too- speed limits, school crossings, speedbumps, Railway crossings, Accident zone etc (can be enabled/disabled in the settings) Media Main Screen The FM interface (it used to have a cool bulb like display interface which Hyundai changed after an OTA update sadly - I wish they get it back) The earlier lovely FM UI that had bulb like graphics (from Aditya's Team bhp Exter review): One of the inbuilt "Sounds of Nature" ambient noise tracks List of Tracks in "Sounds of Nature" USB Music - Current Track Folder List Display Screen to Navigate between Folders/Tracks The Infotainment system is capable of playing Video tracks from the USB drive(mp4, wmv formats). The video plays only when the car is stationary and the handbrake is engaged. Folder List Display Screen to Navigate between Folders/Tracks If the handbrake is disengaged, the video stops playing(audio from the video continues playing in the background though) Video Playback Quality of the infotainment system (it is capable of playing 1080p videos) : Reverse Camera display with adaptive guidelines is very crisp and clear. In the dark/low light conditions, the camera is very clear also. There is a button on the dashboard to view video feed from the rear camera any time you want. Reverse Camera (Night) Settings to change the colour theme on the speedometer (Red/Blue/Turquoise) The Software screen. Two OTA software updates were installed on September 26, 2024 and September 27, 2024, since then there has been no update available. Sadly one of the updates changed the beautiful graphics that had bulb like things on the user interface for the FM. The list of recognizable/supported Voice commands (Blue link Supported Voice Command features List) that can given be using Voice for the system. The voice command button on the steering wheel is meant for Blue link features only and it will not recognize commands for Android auto (you have to click the mic button on the Android Auto screen for Android Auto voice commands). *The applicable data/answers for the Features supported by the Voice commands is retrieved in real time from the internet using the inbuilt modem and it does not use internet from the paired phone. The SX(O) Connect is "connected" to the Internet. So of you are in an area where there is no or very slow internet network, these features might not work. Senior - BHPian | Exteriors Exteriors While it is obvious that the Exter's interiors are that of the Grand i10 Nios/Aura, the exteriors are completely different. Visually, From the outside, the car looks muscular and bigger than it actually is. You sit higher in the Exter compared to the Nios/Aura. White colour does a great job of hiding dust and light scratches as well. Ground Clearance is quite good and I haven't scraped any speed breaker so far. The front grill/Face Headlamp with Projectors. It has a rubber lip bumper that used to be there in the first generation i20, as seen here in our old i20. It helped a lot in saving the bumper from scratches and big stones. But the i20's lip bumper was much thicker and sturdier than the Figo's. I liked the looks of the car from all angles except may be the rear. I wish they had done a better job on the black strip running in between the taillamps. A thinner one like in this Nios may have looked better? Fatter tyres may have significantly altered the car's stance. Upsizing Tyres may void the car's warranty. Those of us who have owned a first gen i20 or an i10 in the past would remember that Hyundai was not honoring warranty claims for the notorious steering rattle issue on those i10s/i20s that had upsized tyres. Although the steering rattle issue had nothing to do with the tyre size, it was just the way things were was back then. Sunroof Sharkfin antenna The wing mirror and its indicator - From the Hyundai Venue. The wing mirrors close/open on locking/unlocking the car using the remote. The mirrors also get welcome function - mirrors open when you come near the driver's side door with the key on you. The request sensor is only on the driver's side door handle and not on the front passenger side door(which I feel is a big miss convenience wise). The request senor eliminates the need to look for your car key in your pocket to unlock the car. Pressing this request sensor to unlock the car is a big convenience feature which is needed when you have bags in both hands and this sensor should have been there on the passenger side front door as well. The DRL with H shaped DRLs, Turn Indicators are neatly integrated. The DRL is linked to the parking brake. It won't turn on till the parking brake is disengaged. During day time, when the indicator is turned on, the DRL on that side switches off. However, if the headlamps are on, the DRL doesn't switch off if the indicator is flashing. The indicators are housed behind the DRLs. If the headlight is not switched on, and the turn indicator is on, the DRL of that indicator switches off. I found the headlight throw adequate. The Tail light Cluster has a neat H-shaped LED "guide light". Reverse lamps works on both taillamps helping to illuminate the area while reversing.: The Hyundai logo, Exter & Variant "SX" decals are flat in matt steel finish. The Exter has three SX "sub-variants" - SX, SX(O) and SX(O) Connect. All get a SX decal and nothing extra to distinguish them decal wise. The 15" Diamond cut Alloys. Factory fitted 175/65 R15 Ceat Securadrive Tyres. The spare tyre is a 165/70 R14 Steel wheel. The tyres look too thin, may be fatter 185 tyres would have helped in enhancing the car's stance. While the alloys do look good, they can be a maintenance nightmare in the long run. Simple and plain silver paint finish alloys are easier to maintain and repair(repaint) in case of scratches or nicks. It is difficult to repair scratches on the machine finished part of the alloy. The rear camera is below the black strip above the number plate. The camera offers a wide angle of view and is very clear even in low light conditions. The car also comes with two parking sensors on the rear bumper that has a display in the MID and audio warning. All four door handles are body coloured (there is an option to add chrome door handle covers as an OEM accessory). The door lock/unlock request button is only on the driver's side door( which is disappointing). The boot has a separate request button, as shown in the post above Last edited by skanchan95 : 17th December 2024 at 20:45. |

Senior - BHPian | First Service Dashboard Camera The car comes with a factory fitted a dual channel Dashboard camera(from a South Korean brand called Motrex) and it came with a 64 GB MicroSD card (not sure if higher capacity card is supported). The camera records front view as well as inside the cabin in 1080p with audio( which can be disabled in the settings if needed). Footage quality is decent but in bright light, the contrast in the recorded footage seems too much. The plastic quality on the dashboard camera body is pretty average. Above parking speeds, it is is prone to rattles and buzzing sounds on the slightest of uneven roads, which is irritating. To make matters worse, the same buzzing and rattling noises get recorded in the captured footage as well. I am not sure if this issue is there in all units of this dashcam or just my unit. The Anker ROAV A0 dashcam that I was using in my Glanza was solidly built and it had no such rattles and buzzing sounds in the footage it recorded over the past four years. Dashboard Camera Video Quality(Day) {watch in 1080p or 720p to judge the true quality of the footage}. The registration plates of the vehicles ahead of you are legible. Dashboard Camera Video Quality(Night) Dashboard Camera Video Quality(Cabin Facing - Day) Dashboard Camera Video Quality(Cabin Facing - Night) In almost all these videos, you can hear background disturbance in the video - it is the buzzing/rattling sounds from the dashcam that I referred to earlier. To view the recorded footage, you can either remove the memory card and connect it via a Memory Card reader to your PC/Laptop OR you can also watch/download the recorded footage on your mobile phone by connecting the Hyundai Dashcam mobile app to the Dashcam using WiFi. The gearbox is pretty slick and slots into gears well. Haven't a had a single occurrence of reverse gear not slotting in correctly till now either. A/C vents. The corner ones are round and can be sealed shut using a rotary knob (I found that it does not shut completely and there is some leakage). The center ones are traditional and can be shut completely too. The presence of Wireless Charging Pad makes it even more baffling why Hyundai chose not give Wireless Android Auto/Apple Car Play Support in the car. There's a USB Type C fast charging port and a USB port for USB drive or Android Auto/Apple Carplay The Headlamp stalk. When set in the 'Auto' mode, the headlamps switch on automatically in low light conditions or in the dark and also for the Follow Me home/Escort function. The Rear Wiper stalk. There is a five speed Intermittent wiper wash interval setting for both front and rear wipers. Smart Keys (with a rubber key cover bought from Amazon.in). The Key Fob is the same as that of the old Grand i10. Dashboard view at night I felt the Exter SX(O) Connect was perfect was for my requirements, but improvements/additions can be made in the following areas. 1. Front center armrest 2. Fatter Tyres 3. Door Lock/Unlock Request sensor on the passenger side front door 4. Auto dimming IRVM 5. Wireless Android Auto Support 6. The lower wraparound black cladding could be made more "aligned"(not sure if it is the right word) and seems to lack continuity. Right now it seems to end abruptly in some areas - especially the around rear bumper: How it is now: How it should have been(My Photoshop Edit): First Service The first service interval was 2 months or 1200/1500 kms. The car covered 1200 kms in less than a month(October 19, 2024). While I could have waited till 1500 kms for the first service, we had guests coming over in the next 3-4 days which meant the car was going to remain busy. On October 21, 2024, I tried booking the service on the MyHyundai app for October 22, 2024 appointment but it didn't let me. Apparently you need to book 24-48 hours in advance on the app. So I called the service centre to book the service directly. There was an irritating buzzing sound from the dashboard camera which was the only issue reported to be checked. The service bill was 0. As for the dashcam, they tightened the screw which got rid of the buzzing sound(which started again after a week) . There was an occasional rattling sound from the driver's side circular ac vent, which I failed to replicate at the workshop premises. It hasn't recurred since. FE Figures The Average FE has been around 14-15 km/l with A/C on all the time - a mix of 50% highway driving & 50% city driving and extremely light footed driving, no sudden accelerations or harsh breaking and a max speed of 85-90 kmph. The FE figures increase dramatically on the highway [on a recent Kota(Kundapur)-Mangalore highway drive, the car returned an impressive 18.9 km/l with A/C - as per the MID]. There has been a steady rise in the recorded FE figures(Using Fillup mobile app) 07/11/2024 - 13.84 km/l 12/11/2024 - 14.19 km/l 27/11/2024 - 15.49 km/l 10/12/2024 - 15.53 km/l As per the Fillup app, the overall Average FE figures of the car till date in 14.46 km/l, while the on the MID it is showing as 14.8 km/l(which is reasonably accurate) While I don't expect the Exter to consistently give me high FE figures (17 km/l was my Glanza's actual average FE figure from Nov 2020 to April 2024), I am still happy with the FE figures being delivered by the Exter so far. My Glanza's FE figures data: For what it offers, I find the Exter to be a great package and perfect for those looking for a small family car. Add Hyundai's great after sales service support to it (depending on how good the service center is) - The car becomes a nearly perfect package in my eyes in this price range. | Re: Our 2024 Hyundai Exter SX(O) Connect MT Review | Poseidon Firstly, congrats on the new car. A new car at home always brings joy. I am surprised that Exter sx costs less than i20 asta OTR mangalore. My father in law had purchased i20 asta MT DT last year OTR was around 13laks, from Advaith hyundai. I am not sure if they have checked the price of Exter though, i personally feel i20 is way over priced. |

| Re: Our 2024 Hyundai Exter SX(O) Connect MT Review | Poseidon The Exter is a good car and it scores high in terms of space, features, pricing however the rear profile of the car is not pleasant to see. The black strip and those H LED rear lights completely mess up the look at the back. Rather venue like connected taillamps at the rear would have looked a lot better. However apart from this it is a very solid no nonsense kind of car. |

The Exter is smaller but taller than the i20. The i20 belongs to be a separate segment(premium hatchback) and is more spacious and therefore those looking to buy the Glanza/Baleno, Swift, Altroz would be looking at an i20 as competition/alternative. The Exter's only real competition in it's segment would be the Tata Punch and may be the Magnite/Kiger. The Exter is nothing but a souped up Grand i10 Nios and an SUV wannabe. It's cabin is almost the same as the Grand i10 Nios widthwise and design wise. The i20 is much bigger. The dimension numbers confirm this. Grand i10 Nios Overall Length (mm) 3815 Overall Width (mm) 1680 Overall Height (mm) 1520 Wheelbase (mm) 2450 Exter Overall Length (mm) 3815 Overall Width (mm) 1710 Overall Height (mm) 1631 Wheelbase (mm) 2450 i20 Overall Length (mm) 3995 Overall Width (mm) 1775 Overall Height (mm) 1505 Wheelbase (mm) 2580 Quote:
