black pearl if he wants consistent mileage and wants a fun car i think the next best option would be to get a palio stile1.5 or indica 1.4 well dont let the brick bats flow yet, i mean they are both petrol cars and good ones for that matter, the new palio will be a bit more fuel efficient than the older classic palio, and is under 5lacs on road.

and the indica is under 4lacs on road, and believe me this beast does more than 160kmph.

one question - what is the realistic FE of Palio 1.6 in City and on highway if driven with a moderately light foot?

Hmm... Palio 1.6 as a first car. Maybe the owner's cousin will get to enjoy the car more. MUCH more than the owner.
Good choice anyway. BP, ask your cousin to talk to the TATA dealership opposite Max Muller. Heard they offer some good deals.

BP, 1.6 owners here & at Palio Users group have reported a FE of 9 - 11 kmpl in City and 15 - 16 kmpl on Highways!

Without any hard bargaining, RD Motors mentioned a total of around 30K discount IIRC. We calculate approx 4.5 - 4.6 OTR for the 1.6 Sports.

What OTR is Lexus offering?

At 1000kms per month, ask him to budget for 4-5K per month for petrol.

BP, with you being the primary decision maker, I was wondering why it was taking this much time to zero in on a Stile 1.6.
I guess I have to agree with Shuvc that the owners cousin will enjoy the car more than the owner himself.

As far as A** is concerned, I have never faced a single issue in the last 3 years. However, I am still continuing with Vahan Motors and not given the car to any Tata SS yet. I am told by Vahan that they are getting Stiles for servicing as well (dont know how, because all Stiles launched so far are still within warranty).

As far as FE is concerned, Samba can be of some help. Depending on your cousin's driving style and the city route he would take everyday, the 1.6 should deliver 9-10 in city and 14+ on the highway.

Lexus is offering 4.7 ish on road after discounts.

@finneyp - thanks for the links.

@shuvd - you are absolutely right. I love the Palio and would be extremely happy to have it parked in our appartment .

Hey Blackpearl i do not know whether you willl like my suggestions or not, but for the comfort of driving and the boot space, the looks, FE - 13kms in city with AC and good after sales service, no problem vehicle

Go For Maruti Suzuki Exteem Vxi which is in your budget and there is a old say Old is Gold and it is still known as the Indian Mercedes...

The above suggestion is based on my ownership of this vehicle since 5yrs and the comfort got for 6foot 4inch person.

Enjoy the drive with whichever car your cousin takes and post the picture.....

Drive Safely...........

@gowda - I had almost convinced my brother about the esteem and we went around looking for a good pre-owned one but were not able to find a proper one with reasonable price. regarding a new esteem, my cousin is of the opinion that there is no point in buying a new car whose production has been stopped. otherwise esteem was the best option that catered to almost all his requirements.

If the palio is not yet finalised, id like to suggest the Accent from the three you have mentioned. I would also say that go for 2nd hand and upgrade after few years as this is his first car.
My brother drives one and it is a very good car. Has taken an unbelievable amount of abuse, is cheap to maintain, good FE, good performance, nice ride and also pretty comfortable and has enough space for luggage on weekend getaways.

Only negative would be that it is now ancient but it does its job with aplomb and though i feel it is not too comfortable in the back seat but then again, like you mentioned, if he will be driving all the time, i dont think it will be much of a hindrance.

Another suggestion would be the Logan.
Yes, the Palio is a very good car as well, solidly built. Only -ve would be FE i think and luggage space. Else, go for it.

steady 60-80kmph without any quick acceleration then will get 15-16kmpl.If you go above than that it will go down again.
