Got my All New Honda City!

THANKS
Hey People! We picked up our new ANHC S/AT yesterday. I clicked a few pics while at the dealers. Here are some of them:

The car had done 7 kms when we picked it up and showed a pathetic 3 kmpl. I reset that and over the rest of the day, going to the gurdwara, going for lunch etc, we drove about 30 kms. The final average at the end of the day for driving within the city was 12.7kmpl on the gauge.

Checked out the audio system later in the day and while the AUX In was working fine, it wouldn't detect my small 128mb USB key. After a few worried moments, formatted the USB key to FAT instead of FAT32 and it picked it up immediately.

The drive is very smooth and quiet. Mind you, I'm comparing it to a Diesel Zen (cos that's what we've had for past 6 years) so pretty much anything in petrol would be a major improvement. The paddle shifts are a lot of fun but I doubt they'll be used much.

Only hassle is that the color tends to show dust and marks very easily. I'll write more about the car as we use it more.

Congrats DMC-12, you are probably the first person to get delivery of the new city here on Team-BHP. More pics and an ongoing review will be useful. Either you are quite large or it looks like it is quite cramped out in the front from the second pic.

Congrats DMC-12. I suggest you use the trusted tank-to-tank method for judging F.E., instead of the display on the dash.

Many congratulations DMC-12 on your new ANHC S-AT. Red color looks really beautiful. Planing to buy the same very soon but S-MT. I will wait for your full detailed review and verdict on the beauty.

Well strange no TD yet available in Delhi and delivery has started in Chandigarh. I called Prime Honda today and they told me TD vehicle has arrived but is currently on a road show and will be available for TD from Wednesday onwards. Also I enquired about Civic Hybrid and they claimed the stock is finished and car is now available without discount only i.e. for around Rs 23 lacs.

Congrats DMC-12. I never knew the formatting on the USB stick would be an issue. I wonder how Honda expects the not so computer savvy people to use the music system.

BTW I often read that the on board fuel consumption computer gives erroneous results - then why offer it as a feature at all? What really is the % of error with these?

BTW, believe me – this is only the beginning of USB stick issues. You will have different compatibility issues, some music specific types of music files not being played, skipped, and so on. But do not count all of this as Honda only problem – even some of USB capable HU have some of these issues. But since this is a Honda music player, it will be interesting to see how Honda A.S.S handles these problems.

Thats actually my dad in the front drivers seat. He is a tall person but at that time he hadn't adjusted the seat properly and just got in to get a quick demo of the features and gauges. Once we prepared to drive, though, we were easily able to setup the seat to our liking.

That's definitely what i'm gonna do over the next week or so. I don't trust the gauge either but i also think it won't be off my much.

I'm not going to say that is my final word on thh USB issue. The memory stick I was using was an old one and it may have been something else altogether which caused the problem. I'm going to try the same with a different stick tomorrow and see if FAT32 actually causes issues or not. If that does turn out to be the case then Honda will have a big hassle on their hands explaining to people why the HU's are not faulty, since most storage devices are FAT32.

The other thing I'm planning to try out is to check if the HU will read a small laptop HDD and be able to scan it. It depends on whether the HU has any file/capacity limits and also the voltage it provides to the USB port (whether that's enough to power a laptop hdd in a usb case). If an HDD works, that'll be brilliant. Just keep it on a bit of padding and enjoy loads of audio options.

Well even I heard in a TV program that Honda ICE will not connect to old IPods only latest version's of IPod will be compatible with Honda's ICE. So guys Honda says time to change your old IPods, be ready.

This is what the manual has to say about which iPODs will work:

MODEL FIRMWARE
iPod 5th Gen Ver 1.2 or more
iPod Classic Ver 1.0 or more
iPod Nano Ver 1.2 or more
iPod Nano 2nd gen Ver 1.1.2 or more
iPod nano 3rd gen Ver 1.0 or more
iPod Touch Ver 1.0 or more

So there you have it. I hope the formatting stays correct. I personally don't own an ipod so i'm more concerned about the usb storage issues but i'll be getting my friend's ipod classic just to test it out.

By the way, one slightly annoying thing about the display while playing songs off a USB device is that it won't show the full filename or ID3 tags. It only shows the first 8 characters. I had assumed that it would scroll to show the full info if it was longer but apparently the first 8 characters is all you get.

It is the limitation of FAT system (DOS / Windows 3.x file system) . It cannot handle long names. It supports only file names of 8 characters with a 3 character extension.

Congrats on your ANHC, DMC! She looks great, nice choice of colour too. We'd love to hear more about the power delivery, urban driveability, ride quality & so on. Keep logging up those miles and giving us updates.
