Shame on Maruti for not providing one even on top models.
Saw these small LED lights that run on AA/AAA batteries in HomeTown. They are supposed to be quite efficient and a single set of batteries should last really long for something as rarely used as a boot lamp. Don't recollect the brand (but it was some known name, perhaps GE), they looked like these:

Re: Maruti Ritz : Test Drive & Review

Thought of sharing this piece of information to the Ritz owners.

My 2012 Ritz VDi didn't have Day & Night IRVM. It came with a normal one. IMHO the recent Ritz V/Z variants have Day & Night IRVM. So, I got this fixed in my Ritz from MSM Chennai. Fits perfectly. No additional holes required. Cost - 502/-

Sorry for my ignorance! but is the 2012 Ritz different from the earlier ones? I have a VDi (ABS) - 2009 - will this mirror fit?

No difference in the mirror's. The D/N mirror will fit in the older models also without any issue. Few months ago when I enquired for it, it costed 900 but left it add they didn't have stock.

Got used to the normal stock mirror.

.
Can you please confirm this anurag when you go for servicing? I had asked the D/N mirror to be retrofitted into my brother's ritz 6 months back. The S.A. categorically said that the new ritz's mirror doesn't fit into the Vxi's. I even requested them to please do something about it, but they flatly refused saying that there is no provision for the same when they opened up the roof linings. So, I didn't prod further. It is a torture to drive in traffic w/o the D/N provision.

Thanks,

Will confirm tomorrow. I got the 1 Lakh service done today.

I don't think there is any difference for a mirror and it is a straight fit for any variant.

Hi SLK, My Ritz is a pre-facelift 2012 model. I wanted Glistening Grey colour, so I didn't wait for the facelift model. But, the facelift models V/Z trims come with Day & Night IRVM. The mirror is a direct fit. I confirmed this with the SA at MSM Chennai. So, please do not worry about drilling additional holes.

I just confirmed with my SA. He says it is a direct fit and no alteration needed whatsoever. Be it any model or variant, LXi/LDi/VXi/VDi just a direct fit.

Re: Maruti Ritz : Test Drive & Review

A quick question to all you Ritz diesel drivers.

What's the RPM at which you'd rather up-shift than accelerate? I'm talking about an all-out overtaking manouvre where you find yourself hard on the throttle in 3rd or 4th gear.
I used to up-shift right after the torque peak at 2000 RPM but then realized that the car still had some shove in it. I still don't take it past 3000 RPM. I recently came across this article (http://www.procivic.com/pages-horsep...que/index.html) that suggests that the ideal shift point is closer to the peak power RPM. Going by the spec sheet, peak power RPM is a crazy 4000! In your experience, does it pay to push it close to 4000 RPM?

2.5 to 3 k is perfect , so that when you up shift you are already in the power band to zoom off.
Hope it helps

Cheers

I up shift between 2000-2500 rpm. That's the start point in the rev range. Under extreme overtaking times maximum is 3000 RPM.

Touching 4000 RPM is crazy affair. Not at all advised. In the 100000 kms that my car has clicked, every 3000 kms I touch its top speed for a few seconds. Other than this time never touched 3000 RPM. In my daily maximum I touch is 2500 RPM.

Re: Maruti Ritz : Test Drive & Review

Revving an MJD beyond 3000 RPM is mostly pointless, just burns fuel and gets you nowhere. The only time you might need to touch 4000 is if you are on the highway and trying to go 150+ which is not advisable anyway.

Even on highway cruising, 100 typically comes at 2500 and 120 at 3000 so for most purposes you don't need to rev beyond that.

OTOH, keeping the revs too low, i.e 1000-1300 constantly by driving slowly in a high gear like petrol drivers do while hyper-miling is also not advisable. It actually gives you worse mileage than keeping it in the power band of the diesel which for the MJD seems to be 1500-2500 RPM.

Re: Maruti Ritz : Test Drive & Review

I think 100 comes up before 2500 RPMs. And to answer, under extreme overtaking 2700 or there about, so that the next up shift, 4th/5th is in the power band. 80-100 roll on in 5th gear is sweet and addictive.

I bought the D/N mirror from a MGP outlet and fitted it on to my swift. Our ritz also seems to have a similar setup (it is a Z variant so, already has one fitted).
And the replacement was a breeze for me - took 5 and a screwdriver.

Just go to you nearest MGP outlet and ask for the relevant part.. normally they help you out if we are unsure of the exact part needed.

No point in crossing 120 kmph in the MJD and for Indian roads with its current state I feel 120 kmph is too fast. Best speeds are between 80-110 kmph. The car is also peaceful and the driver also!

@100 kmph (The 100 kmph was on speedometer):

Maruti Ritz : Test Drive & Review-img20130724wa0004.jpg

I would say 80-120 kmph in 5 gear, the roll-on is pretty addictive and enjoyable. The car picks up speeds very fast from 80 kmph till 140 kmph. It doesn't need a downshift.
