Yesterday went home a little early. I tried cleaning the glue marks on the Palio logo and the idea given by Ravveendrra worked out. Its clean now. However there is still lost of dust and glue marks on the ELX part. The brush is hardly cleaning it. What next can I do to get rid of the dirt

Mileage Update

With 50% highways 30% ghats and the rest in towns with AC on 50%, I am getting a mileage of 15.98 kmpl.

To Palio 1.2 owners, is this a good mileage? Or do I have to alter my driving style to stretch this figure more.

Have not measured the City mileage yet, will probably do over the next fill.

I am guess at 11 kmpl with AC in city. Let me check and update.

I would say very much in line. 16 is a good mileage for such a heavy car. I own 1.2 sport for 4.5 years and max I got till now is 17.8 kmpl on highway with 30% AC. In recent trip I achieved 16 kmpl with 80% AC and it was my first mileage after I changed over to Synthetic engine oil.

Thanks for the input mate!

Another question. What mileage can i expect in the city (Bangalore) with 50% AC.

The recent trip in Alto yeilded only 17 kmpl. This does not seem bad at all then.

Following are my mileage figures:

1. City: without AC: 13.5-14kmpl
2. City: With minimal (30-50%) AC: 12.5 - 13kmpl

1. Highway: without AC: normally 16, max 17.8kmpl
2. Highway: with minimal (30-50%) AC: 15kmpl

Last time I had been to Mumbai:
Total drive:450km
City:40%
Highway:60%
AC: 80%
Mileage: 16kmpl

Thanks for the update mate.

So the highway mileage is in the ball park. Will check the city mileage soon, but i would bet it will not be 12-13 kmpl because of the crazy traffic jams we have here

Update!

Bought the vehicle with 72055 kms on the odo.

Reading as on date 78895

Kms done: 6840 kms.

Mileage: City 11 kmpl with AC & Highway - 16 kmpl

One service done at Green Tracks with the below items
  • regular servicing
  • Coolant leakage repair
  • Brake pads replaced
  • engine oil changed
  • Oil filter changed
  • Air filter changed
  • Wheel alignment and balancing
Total cost - Approx Rs. 4600 (do not remember the exact amount)

couple of minor accidents -

Bumper misaligned, and left OVRM is broken. Will get them sorted out in the next service due at 82K kms.

Need input on the bumper, OVRM cost + Left front and rear door tinkering and painting charges.

@nkrishnap, your mileage seems to be good and on expected lines.

On a different note, I am bit curious on what made you buy this car? It's a 1.2 petrol, it's much hated, obituaries already written etc. Is it a decision made by heart or are there some sound logic in here?

Oops missed this question.

Yes the decision was driven by the heart, also where else will you be able to find a good car at 1.4 lacs with all the features a Palio boasts off. Not many. I dont regret buying the Palio

A quick update coming on the Fiat Free Camp in the next post

March 6th, 2010.

I had already fixed up an appointment for the Free Check up at Concorde Motors - Mysore Road.

They had a quick list of checking the exteriors, internals, under-body/chassis test, engine oil top up, all coolants and liquids top up. Test drive of the car that had any problem.

Finally a clean body wash and a quick interior cleaning (vacuum cleaning) and Tyre polish.

A gift with a Fiat packed face tissue box.

Observations with respect to my car (Fiat Palio 1.2 ELX - Glacier White)

Exteriors - minors scratches which I can leave with.
Interiors - A couple of plastics things that were rattling. Fixed by the enthusiastic service engineer (Mr. Gopal). He used a couple of washers (rubbers ones as well) to keep away the rattling.
Engine Oil - Topped with 100 ml. Which I think was not necessary.
Brake Fluid level - Found as per standard requirement
Coolant - Found as per standard requirement
Power Steering Fluid - Found as per standard requirement
Windshield washer Spray - It was errant and it was fixed now

Under chassis inspection - All bearings and Silencer mounting are found to be in good condition. Suspension Lower Arms in good condition, dampers in good condition. Brake calipers needs replacement though not serious, makes a clank noise when the car goes over a pot hole at higher speeds.

The AC worked fine.

Test drive - Only road noise found, which will be fixed by replacing the tyres to Michelins

Over All experience - Excellent (by 10.30 am there were already 37 cars in the list). Though found handling of the customers was quite good.

Met a person from FIAT and the discussion is penned down in the next post.

Met Subramanya, a team-bhp member who owns a red punto Emotion PK (MJD). Had quite a long discussion with him as well.

By the way a few pictures.

A Premier Padmini car, was amongst the cars for free check up. The Old and Young together.

Met Mr. Govardhan A. Pai from Corporate Quality - FIAT.

A nice person who was indeed collecting every possible feedback from the customers. He was clicking photographs and documenting the problems faced.

As usual a few questions were asked by me and Subramanya.

WE: What is being done to take care of the niggling issues with respect to Plastics
FG: The feedback is being taken on a daily basis and the same are being incorporated in the 2010 models.

WE: Why is FIAT not serious about advertising the car in all possible media
FG: The current focus of FIAT is on improving the service and the spare parts availability.

WE: Are you really satisfied with the current sales of the Punto?
FG: The top management of both FIAT and TATA are very serious about getting the Puntos and Lineas off the Showroom. The annual sales target for Punto alone stands at 46,000 units. The top brass are discussing strategies to achieve this target. Newer variants of both Punto and Linea are being launched to achieve this.

WE: What are the updates about Palio and when is the new version of Palio coming out?
FG: The Palio production has been stopped. We are concentrating on the Punto and Linea currently. We are also planning to launch the higher end cars such as Bravo, a few models from Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Ferrari.

We were already getting late, so thanked the person for his time and moved on.

One thing for sure. FIAT is very serious this time. Lets wait and see how things turn out for FIAT. I dearly want to see them succeed.
