A long search ended when I found a White Angel (Palio)

For the past 5 odd months, I have been running around the used car showrooms, searching over the internet over this one particular car. I was ready to source one from any city within a radius of 1000 kms. Sounds like madness ah!

When I found the preferred model, either the car was in poor condition or had an accident history and also the owners quoted prices which would raise quite a few eye brows. Over the period of time, the search started to get frustrating as I did not want to settle for just another car .

Then one fine day, found one of the cars on the Sulekha ads which seemed good. Called up the owner to check if the car was still available for sale. The answer was yes. Went ahead immediately to have a look at the car. Was quite impressed when I found the car to be good condition if not excellent. It had 70K Kms on the odo; still the internals seemed quite good. Also the owner had the service history for the car. Checked the car with my mechanic who gave the green signal to go ahead. However, the owner had mentioned there was coolant leakage, which I checked with the service center who said they can fix it.

I was pretty OK with the offered price, got a DD for the amount, made the payment, took over the documents and drove off on the Monday evening.

Headed to the service center the next day morning to have the coolant leakage plugged. Even though there was a delay in getting the repair done, they did a good job of it.

The list of things done during the service.

1) Replaced the head gasket and ensured there is no more leakage issues
2) Got the disc pads changed (20% life left in them, still got them changed)
3) Got the engine oil, oil filter and fuel filter changed
4) Got a wheel cap which was missing
5) Got a new air filter (stock)
6) a new logo of the car
7) Bonnet rubber

The total cost came up to 7.5K inclusive of the labor and all taxes

The delay was not due to the non availability of parts. I delayed taking the car back by a day, reason stuck at office. Initial delay due to high numbers of vehicles for service, which was informed earlier.

Will upload the pics soon. Have taken a few today. Need a little editing, will post them after editing

Whats with Fiats & romantics (passionate souls)?

LOL!!

What is with guys having a romantic disposition, neat turn of phrase and prone to occasional flights of fancy that they invariably fall in love .........with Fiats!! Jeez, even 'passion' or even 'Italian passion' do not fully describe this phenomenon.

Welcome nkrishnap, to the club of Fiat owners, its a mad mad mad world here, full of passion and joy (and tears too). Now that you have a Fiat - hook up with the Palio Users Group on Yahoo groups, it can be a veritable mine of useful information.

BTW - which version of Palio is yours?

Cheers,

Me not sure either. Had a long drive once in one of my relatives 1.6 Sports. That hooked me up with Fiat. Have been a very silent spectator on the forum especially on the Fiat threads. No wonder FIAT really evokes so much emotion.

Its a Palio 1.2 ELX. Pics coming soon

Would definitely buy a Punto but not in the next 12 months for sure. Let Fiat bring in more powerful engines.

Pics coming real soon

First time I am seeing a palio in white, and I'm loving it!
Is that dirt or rust in between the Palio ELX badge? Any way to get rid of that?

Those are not rust marks. They're glue marks. Seems like the logos were removed and not aligned properly when stuck.

Toothbrush tech

Those marks look more like dust & grime to me but I could be wrong and they just might be glue too. Best way to get rid of them is to use soap and a toothbrush gently. If it does not work put some toothpaste (white) on it, let the paste dry and then wash off the paste with water and a toothbrush.

Great looking car. Would love to see pics of the interiors after the leather you put in. Pls. give sources and costing of the leather stuff too.

Cheers,
