Are you saying there is already a Pete's box available for the Fortuner? Do not see any updates on Pete's website!

Wow! that was fast! Hope we get to see some numerals that denote 0-100 and 100-0 !

And yes, any inputs from Peter regarding brake upgrade option?

Hey guys... Sorry for the delay. The car is being used in elections, hence, I do not have access to the internet that often. I promise to put the complete review by SUNDAY. Till then I have been just able to attach a few teasers.
Note: the car has done 3500 km.

Well, the improvement would be the abvious ones. Increase in horsepower and better torque delivery. It would now be much easier to pull from a lower rpm range.

Congrats on the Fortuner.

I see in one of the pics, there is a reading with VVTi. What had VVTi got to do with the D4D Fortuner?

You probably saw VVTi on an international Fortuner pic; it is sold with a petrol engine in some other countries.

I think the VVTi label is pasted on some other car on which the box is placed.

Wont it affect the warranty?? I also think that you should have waited to complete the running in period at least.

Looking forward to your upgrade report and congrats.

You dont need to run in a Toyota engine beyond 750-1000 kms, its built to last. 'Running in' an engine is a dying concept which is being challenged by modern production car engines which are designed and built to perform straight out of the factory. The engine frees up as fast as the brain does.
The d4d engine in the fortuner is like a train engine, except that most users will not harness all of its potential.
Jatm3 however, has taken the first step in exploring the train engine's potential.
Congrats buddy.

I have a small update for you as I am short on time. Till then you can enjoy the pics.

I did a small test with and without Petes chip. The acceleration time on 3 trials WITHOUT Pete's chip was about 12.8-13 sec for sprinting to 100km/hr mark. With PETEs chip we managed from 10.8- 11.2 sec for a ton on 4 attempts made on the road in Sector 29 Gurgaon. I also tried to measure the stopping time of fortunner from 100km/hr to ZERO and managed a time 3.8 seconds.

Yes the chip will void the warranty but I am okay with it as this car is for rough use and I trust toyota build quality so took the plunge.

Here is a small video of the shake in gear lever earlier mentioned while idling. Pardon the comments made by my cousin:-):

About the running in question for the engine, I got the chip installed after 2500kms on the ODO, hence, no issues with that. It does not effect the longevity of the engine as this is a bolt on chip which only alters the fuel amount and timing.

After the Petes attachment I have achieved a fuel efficiency of 7.8 km/l . This figure is pretty decent considering the car is under heavy acceleration and braking contiuously. The car is offroading in the interior of haryana in LOHARU, Bhiwani near the rajasthan border.

It is Driven in sand and generally the engine is idling for 1- 2 hrs daily when the mike is being used to address the public.

The fortunner has relatively less wobbling (suspension roll due to imperfections in road) at high speeds compared to the innova. But this problem is still evident at speeds exceeding 120. I managed to touch 160km/hr on the speedo withsome some more boost left but had to restrain myself due to the mike system installed on the roof.

The plastic behind the electric windows is something to complain about as I had mentioned earlier as it does not support any weight.

With Petes chip installed, through the drivers seat, the front body lifts about 1, 11/2 inch under hard acceleration when we start from standstill similar to a drag car taking off!!:-D

I will be more than happy to answer specific questions next week as I will not have access to the internet till then. Thanks for being patient with me and pardon my writing style as I am very very short on time and these words do not do justice to the wonderful piece of machinery that I have been enjoying for the last 21 days(Took the delivery on the 3rd night).

Enjoy!

Good for such a heavy vehicle. And the stopping part too 100~0 in 3sec; but any drama?

And you have some rare accessory on your Fortuner

Very Nice - I never expected somone to plonk in a pete so soon and that too in a brand new 2 million car

By the way when you give the car for service - you can take out the removable pete and this way the warranty on the car would not void - Is this not right ?

Pete's supposed to be plug n play ?
