Boss..you know what..I am keeping the slight dent/scratch as it is? I am past the age where flashing cars will get some ch****, unlike you guys

On the contrary, now that I have got over the damage, I can give the autowallahs a run for their money..and show some stunts of my own..a few more scratches will not bother me any further.

If some major issue happens in the future, all dents/scracthes can be recovered from insurance later on when "no claim bonus" may not make sense.

I took my car for a P&P session at the race track today. This was my first time ever on track and I drove like a noob as expected. The only car I managed to overtake was a Santro. Got royally beaten by an 800 as well. Inspite of that, the car handled beautifully. Sanjayc went on a couple of hot laps in a friend's Octavia. I am sure he will have something to say write about that. :)

My car had an unfortunate incident while returning. My friend and I swapped cars and I was driving the Octavia. To cut a long story short, the Fiesta side swiped a bike which was drifting towards the right on the highway. The bike guy took a nasty fall but he escaped with a few scratches.

Damage to the Fiesta: left ORVM ripped off, dent at the bottom of the left fender, left skirt scratched and misaligned and a scratch on the rear three quarter panel. I have to take it to the workshop tomorrow to get an estimate. A rather lousy ending to a great day.

Gilhead, sorry to hear about the incident man. Heart skips a beat at these moments!

While returning, I saw a bike lying flat on the road towards the right kerb...is that the one? I also saw on Blue-S and another vehicle slowing on the left thru my rear view! I thought the bike rider would just have slipped since no one was to be seen near the bike. Hope this was nothing serious and the bike rider was ok!

How come you guys were ahead of me, when I left earlier? I am sure I did not stop/slow down as much anywhere!

Sad to know about this, particularly since you have maintained it till now so well...really painful. Will suggest take it to both MPL/CF for estimation. Is ORVM covered under insurance?

Will post about my thoughts about the on-track experience somewhat later.

But good that nothing happened to the Bike fellow..

This has got to frustrate someone who did all he could to get himself and the car home safely. It's like you're trying to be safe as much as you can but there's somebody beside you to ruin it all in second. That's got to be frustrating! Anyways, I hope it gets covered under insurance.

P.S. Do you have a video of the track day proceedings?

Yeah I know. If I had been closer, I might have run over the biker as he went somersaulting a few times on the road. Luckily, I had enough space and time to get the Octavia clear of the bike and the biker.

That must have been us. The bike fell on the right near the median and we pulled the two cars over to the left immediately. I guess we must have passed you somewhere along the way. We left about 5 mins after you did and we were doing a fair clip. The Octavia is one torquey beast.

Took it to CF at Arumbakkam this morning. They don't do body work there any more, so they asked us to take it to Poonamalee. Ironically, their workshop is less than a KM from where the accident happened. Filed for insurance etc. Estimate is 25K. I'll have to pay about 2-3K. My friend offered to pay the whole amount, but I didn't want to dump 25K on his head. He'll compensate me for what I have to pay.

He got a big cut on his palm, nothing else. I thought he was dead looking at the way he went flying. Luckily nothing happened.

Very frustrating. My wife kept warning me not to damage the car on the track. The damage happened on the road instead. :Frustrati

We settled with the guy on the spot. He was not the thug kind. The usual crowd that gathered was not the mob kind either. Two mini truck drivers who were standing on the left said it looked like the bike's fault, but on the highway, it's always the car's fault.

Glad that no big damage to the bike guy and everythings' settled. Did you also get any written statement from the bike guy or just paid cash and travelled back.

Except for ORVM, it's all dents and scratches right, why is Ford charging 25K for this. Isn't this very high.

Paid cash and left. Our cars were parked too far away to note down the numbers. Even a written statement etc won't be of any use anyway. I don't think he will bother us again.

The ORVM is electric. Costs 3.5K. The left fender is being replaced and painted. The skirt is being replaced and painted. The dent on the rear panel is apparently labor intensive. I'll post the breakdown when I reach home. 25K sounds about okay to me. The paint is Aquarius, which is the most expensive one according to them.

I know how it can feel...for my entire trip to CAL, not a single issue..but the scratch happened (which I covered with sticker) when parked at home by some careless moron..very frustrating indeed.

Looking by your description of the event, something serious was averted, thankfully. Just take some deep breatch & relax.

And, you know what, I pulled myself from going on track, fearing such incidents with the sheer number of cars on the track..only after couple of laps in the Octavia, and seeing the track upclose, I felt a bit more comfortable. Since I did not come mentally prepared 100% to do it, I resisted myself.

This is the estimate I received from Chennai Ford. Comes to ~25K inclusive of tax. I have to pay about 2-3K.

From the parts list, it seems the left side is in total mess.

Will the labor parts be more or less same across service centers? Since 75% cost is labor, it may vary from place to place.

What I see from Shaju's quote, Painting of front LH door = 3198/- Is your item # 12 for 4686.75/- the same? If yes, that is a huge difference...

I don't know why the left side door needs painting. It was untouched as far as I could see. It was jammed though. Will not open from outside as the skirt and fender were blocking it. Maybe mine is more because there is some tinkering work also involved. Shaju's is just painting on a brand new door panel. I'll call them tomorrow and find out.
