@svanstosh: Hey, this isn't your first Tata, so why aren't you raising hell to get your clutch attended to? You know the drill, brother! I my case, the TASC seemed most eager to replace parts under warranty. I went in with a noise from the rear suspension of my Indigo and they replaced the entire strut assembly under warranty, no questions asked. If the bill is true and the staff are lying, they even replaced the clutch assembly! :D

Now the Tass says the Alternator is weak thus causing the weak clutch...!!

Yes, the alternator gave a teeny-weeny problem at times, the battery light would not go off on start-up, but give it a whirr of the throttle and it would be gone...!! But how in the world can this cause the clutch to act up.

Anyways, they said the clutch was opened up - again - and it seems fine. It is fine, mind you, just that the continuous driving/heating cycles makes it look weak.

But, I am not complaining, a new alternator - yipeee!! What poop, who I am kidding, lets see how this pans out.!!

Bad news 1 - Will take 2-3 more days for the part to go to bangy from hosur and back.

Bad news 2 - The Tass has not yet started the '3 point warranty replacement' for any customers yet. Looks like I need to mail tata cust care to learn about 'mera number kabb aayegaa'!!! At least I already got a new starter motor at last visit.

I told my TASS about it and they were pretty amused..!!!

I almost forgot I have given my car to the TASS. Still no call back regd the alternator replacement.

I spoke to them yesterday, to make sure they were talking sense in the clutch-alternator story.

Got hold of the nano specialist and he spoke sense. Two different things actually, first the clutch was opened up again and it was OK, second the alternator was giving only 13V max output. Hence it was send to the company/manufacturer.

Somehow the stupid service rep thought of marrying the two statements into one of his own!!! Jerko..!!

Will update once I hear back from them...

Somehow ended up talking to AGM of the TASS, he assured me that by tomorrow evening i will have the car back.

Well, car is ready, but I wasnt around to take it out. Just of curiosity I asked the TASS over phone what was the 1st oil change bill - it was 632Rs..!! Imagine this, 600 odd rupees of servicing costs for the 1st 10K kms, 6 Paisa per KM..!!

It is such things/points that TATA should be advertising to make the nano sell more....!! Oh and I got a new alternator it seems.

I also got the first year/1000kms service done last monday but my odo was at 7330kms. The bill was around 760rs including the oil change. I smiled once again, thanks to my NANO.

When I parked my Nano last night (New Year's Eve), I noticed the ODO reading - 7000 kms. Like KKG I might not complete 10K kms when I complete my Ist year in March.
Going by the sightings of new Nanos in my town, its hard to believe that Nano sales have dipped to dangerously low levels. Maybe TATA is paying dearly for their poor handling of the media regarding the Nano-burning issue.

It was 628, not 632 :) Oil was at 479, oil filter 50, petrol filter 28, tax @ 70.



Watch out for the "Diesel engine Oil"...!!!

Noticed a strange thing. Yesterday I filled fuel while letting the AC/Engine on, Was a very hot afternoon in a open bunk. After TOPPING the tank the fuel meter didnt move a inch. Was surprised since it was a regular bunk and they dont play around. That too 12~ liters of fuel...

Switched off the key and restarted, the meter went full...!! Some logic eh.

Broke the Recirculate/Fresh plastic switch. Is a spare available?

The float valve is similar to a potentiometer, might had some oxidation inside OR the float valve itself was close and took a while to pop up.

The same phenomenon can be observed in almost all the FIAT cars.

If we top up the fuel without switching off the engine, the fuel needle will go up only gradually. In case if you want the needle to go up quickly, you need to switch off the engine before getting the fuel filled up. :D

Still, I do not know the reason why this happens.

My nano is showing signs of the "Vanilla-Pontiac" syndrome...!!

Wouldnt start after, say, a 30min drive and switch-off-switch-on within a minute or 2. It needs a tinge of the A-Pedal input to get it started.

BTW, 11K Kms up yesterday.

The Fuel guage is an electronic part. The takes the average between the current reading and a few of the previous readings. Thus, as the average goes up, the meter needle goes up at the same pace.

When you switch off the engine, all previous readings get erased and the average starts afresh, thus the latest averages are computed without the old readings that used to show lower levels.

Just my 2 cents.

Nice to see the car holding up well, but looks like you are using it as a long distance touring car which is not exactly what it was designed for. A used IndicaD would be more suited (faster, safer, more comfy, more FE) for this kind of use wouldn't it?
