I made a trip to his village in Manang back in 2011. More on that trip in the following link:

She was cleaning the device at the communal tap.
2011 in Manang would be crazy...It is still very very tough...

What a Tlog! Thanks for taking time and posting this detailed Tlog Jay & Genesis. Can you also post some of the video/dashcam footage over the weekend. I did watch the video that you posted on HVK FB group and was hoping that you would add a few here

This one surely goes onto my bucket list and hope to do this before we have smooth black tar roads lined with plastic cups & bottles!

This picture clarifies everything. Thank you. It was indeed tough back in 2011. Yet, with a local in our team, he had everything organized properly for us. We mostly trekked then. With body weight increasing drastically, Lo Manthang doesn't feel feasible without a 4WD or a Royal Enfield now.

We have a lot of dashcam footage, but i guess neither of us has the motivation to edit it. Too much work involved in that.

Brilliant report.Nepal is a fantastic place, which for Indians feels so much at home. I did the Everest base camp last month and these images brought back some memories of the Himalayan kingdom - especially those hanging bridges, mongolian horses etc. Of course, the places I went, no vehicle can ever go atleast in foreseeable future.

Re: Epic Nepal: The last forbidden kingdom! Upper Mustang & Lo Manthang

Was viewing an area on google earth and on a whim, decided to map out some of the gps tracks on google earth.
The yellow line is the border of China and Nepal and the blue line is where we went
Highest altitude was 15100+ feet.

Thanks. There are no plans. The plans find us.

Wow. This is awesome indeed. Thanks for adding this. More like a certificate of authenticity and seeing the border from the sky ( if it matters at all). Nothing will match what we saw and felt standing there.

@jaysmokesleaves. You got this awesome TL tickling all of my wanderlust! The contemplative mood about this trip, and the planning considerations are pretty much clear after going through this. Be assured of facing a barrage of my queries to fine tune my own trip as early as possible!
Thanks in advance!

Thanks jaysmokesleaves for the fantastic travelogue and detailing.

Not exactly the same trip. However, I went to Kagbeni and Muktinath before you in march 2017 in a 2WD bolero from India .

1. Gabru is the only vehicle from Mumbai to go to Lo Manthang and to the China border from there.
2. Gabru is probably the only one from Maharashtra to do so.
3. Gabru is probably the only vehicle from India to do so, or atleast in the top 3 vehicles from India to get there.
( I would love anyone to prove me wrong on any of the above 3 if any Indian vehicle did this trip before us)

Hi Pointzero.
Thanks for sharing your travelogue. Excellent pics and narration.
Muktinath is a popular destination on the religious pilgrimage circuit. After our trip i found of 2 others who have driven to Muktinath in 2wds in 2016.
However as I mentioned earlier, im yet to know of anyone who has driven to Lo Manthang and the Kora La border in an Indian vehicle prior to us. Let me know if u find anyone who has.
