| S-Cross'd : A Ferry Ride and Jog Falls It was just three days back me and Sr. PPG returned from a 9000Km drive through central India. On return, Bangalore saw us busy with work and college, but three days was enough to bore us down. Friday night I pinged Sr. PPG and she too shared the same feelings. So in the middle of the night we hatched a plan for a drive on Saturday 01st of September 2018. Idea was to give Kungfu Panda a ferry ride, which he missed in his central India Drive. The day he landed up in Chilka for the ride, the ferry motor went kaput! We have the nearest ferry at Holebagilu, which meant we are driving to Jog Falls and around. So hatched a plan to sprint to Jog Falls, drive around the reservoirs and Dams and take the ferry and be back by night to home. Quickly conveyed that I'd pick Sr. PPG from her PG Saturday early morning and tried to catch some sleep. It was already midnight by then. A quick sprint to Jog, an impromptu visit to a temple in a reserved area, driving around reservoirs, exploring tunnels, taking a ferry, and reaching back Bangalore, a rough estimate says over 1000Kms, 1 day  Hey Ferry, Here we come! Jog is just an excuse   |

| Re: S-Cross'd : A Ferry Ride and Jog Falls The Plan 01 September 2018 Start by 05:30AM from home, pick Sr. PPG from PG by 06:30AM and start the drive to Jog Falls via the fastest route. Leg 1: Bangalore - Ranebennur - Hirekerur - Siddapura - Jog Falls  Jog is an excuse, or starting point for our scheme of events. Next is to visit the balancing reservoir near to Jog and get to Vadanabail Leg 2: Jog Falls - Vadanabail - Banks for Talakale Balancing Reservoir  Leg 3: Talakale Reservoir to Linganamakki Dam  Leg 4: Linganamakki Dam - Sagar. Actually Linganamakki Dam to Sagar is a no brainer, its a 30Km drive, some 45 minutes.  But our route was not that simple. We need the ferry, the only reason for us to get out for this drive! So the scheme was Linganamakki Dam - Singanduru - FERRY RIDE - Holebagilu - Sagar, all of 120KMs and 3 hours  Leg 5: Sagar - Home  We wanted to see Shimoga, which is a buzzing town. So the routing was done appropriately to drive via Shimoga and get to faster NH and get home. |

Some symmetry  We passed through Sharavathy Sanctuary  We stopped for some refreshing fresh air  We tried to take a boat to the reservoir  We checked out the canals  And also the tunnels  Spent some time at random streams  Wondered at why a full dam doesn't let water out  Ran into closed camps  Aimlessly wandered in the woods  Made some friendships  And finally got our ferry ride   |

Took a nice hot bath, made myself a cup of tea, dumped the travel kitty bag with camera and other travel stuffs to the car. Sent a whatsapp message to Sr. PPG, that I'd present myself at her PG by 06:00AM. By 05:30 I go down to the car and take the odo readings before starting. Kungfu Panda was showing the trip details of my Central India drive, 9K round trip  Reset the trip for the day, Yes you've seen it right, Kungfu Panda is nearing 24K Kms  Started by 05:30AM and reached Sr. PPGs PG by 06:00. Picked her up and drove towards Jog Falls. We took NH all the way till Ranebennur for the fast drive and then took the smaller connection to Jog Falls via Hirekerur and Siddapura. Hirekerur Siddapura drive to Jog Falls We reached Jog Falls Parking by 11:30AM, some 425Kms in 5.5 hours, thanks to the fast drive till Ranebennur. The customary click of the falls from the podium built to view it!  Linganamakki Dam gates were not open. The Pencil Falls aka Jog Falls  We were not disappointed, since Jog Falls was an excuse for the drive  Jog Falls We checked out all that constitutes Jog Falls. People say, Raja Falls, Rani Falls, Rocket Falls, Roarer Falls, but we were not much enthused. Some clicks of them    All of them   It was time for us to start the plan for which we drove in. So without spending much time we took a picture for memories and searched for a quick brunch. One for the memories  continued... |

| Re: S-Cross'd : A Ferry Ride and Jog Falls 01 September 2018 While we were searching for brunch, we found some symmetry  Would have been nice if there were some creepers with flowers  And we found Brunch, Omlettes!!  Sr. PPG expected more for brunch  After our quick brunch we left from Jog Falls area. We drove to Raja Stone. Jog Falls to Raja Stone Some clicks from Rajas Stone     While we were enjoying the breeze and views, a truck load of tourists landed up there making a hell lot of noise. We immediately left the place. We then took a look inside the KPTC colony From Raja Stone a loop in the KPTC colony After the colony darshan we drove towards Vadanabail. Atr Vadanabail there is a checkpost, and we need permissions to go inside the reserved area. This area has Talakale Balancing Reservoir and Dam and a temple. Permission is given to visit the temple. We reached the check post and was told we need the permission. So we came back to Jog Bazaar and got the permission form KPTC office to visit the temple. To Vadanabail Check Post and back for permission There is a strict ban on photography after the checkpost, so no pictures, no videos. Nothing great, just a drive to the temple. Reservoir and Dam are out of bounds in this route. After the drive to the temple we came out, thanked the checkpost guys and drove towards Singandur route to check out the next stuffs, and possibly get to the other bank of Talakale reservoir which is inhabited and publicly accessible. For that matter not even a single soul anywhere .It was a refreshing break  continued... |

| Re: S-Cross'd : A Ferry Ride and Jog Falls 01 September 2018 Further ahead we stopped again This time we could get to waters edge  Beautiful Reservoir, so peaceful and calm   There were nobody around there, for an instance we thought we will take the boat for a ride  Sr. PPG quite happy now  Some artwork   Yellow berries? We did not try tasting  We drove from Talakale all the way to Linganamakki. We went to the dam gates from behind and it was restricted, so we went to the canal side. Talakale to Linganamakki Canal We stopped by the canal  Canal was quite beautiful, with its own pergola  We enjoyed the calm flow of water in the canal, and decided to trace the canal till the tunnel continued... | Re: S-Cross'd : A Ferry Ride and Jog Falls 01 September 2018 We stopped by to check the stream  We then drove to Linganamakki Dam Main gate Linganamakki Dam was full, but shutters were not open    Time to say bye bye to Linganamakki   By now it was already 3:45PM and we have a ferry to catch. If we leave straight to Sagar from here we would reach Sagar by 4:30PM, but we had Ferry as our biggest need in the drive. If we were to do that, we need to run to Singandur, and hopefully we will reach Sagar by 8PM  So the run to the ferry starts!! continued... |

| Re: S-Cross'd : A Ferry Ride and Jog Falls 01 September 2018 We started our run to Singandur to get our ferry, but then we saw a Nature camp at Muppane and wanted to check out Linganamakki to Muppane We saw a board saying Muppane Nature Camp    So we check it out But the gates were closed   So we make some photo ops      And then we return to the main road Now we decide, we must do the final run to the ferry point at Singandur, its getting late, pretty late continued... |

| Re: S-Cross'd : A Ferry Ride and Jog Falls 01 September 2018 We then drove through and through to Singandur Ferry Point Meanwhile we tried to check out Bheemeshwari waterfalls and a temple nearby, but that route was closed due to heavy rains. So it was a direct sprint to Singandur. We reached Singandur by 17:30, starting from Muppane by 16:15, a distance of 60KMs. We reached Singandur and was in the queue.  Another SCross too in the queue  Some views of the Linganamakki Reservoir, which we need to cross    While waiting for the ferry we make some friends  We saw a ferry coming    Singandur Ferry We could not be accommodated in that ferry, since there were many local cars, and they get priority. So we waited for the next one. I was told the last one was at 18:30, not sure on this though. continued... |

| Re: S-Cross'd : A Ferry Ride and Jog Falls 01 September 2018 The gates were finally open for the ferry boarding  By 18:30, we were called to board the Ferry Kungfu Panda finally get its ferry ride, and Sr. PPG very happy  There was another ferry coming in, there seems to be two ferries in use  It looked grand in the reservoir waters   Ferry Ride Some pictures from the ferry ride    Beautiful views of Linganamakki reservoir   Reaching Holebagilu We reached the Holebagilu Ferry point by 19:00 continued... |

| Re: S-Cross'd : A Ferry Ride and Jog Falls 01 September 2018 We exited to Holebagilu by 19:00  Exiting to Holebagilu from Ferry and on to Sagar We then drove on to Sagar and then to Shimoga and then touched the fast NH at Hiriyur to sprint back home. We witnessed moon rising, and could see enormous size of moon in front of us for a long time during the drive. Some tests for the lights of Kungfu Panda It was getting too late for Sr. PPG to be dropped back at her PG, so we decided to sprint back home. Called up wifey and asked her to keep some dinner for both of us, and continued on with the last leg of the journey. We reached home by 01:30AM, on 2nd September. Well that makes it 19 hours, 1024Km round trip for the day  Another journey completed, memories for a lifetime, another 4 digit drive in a day, etc..etc..
