Very well written Ashish, the pics are beautiful and hats off to you for having taken up this trek. I surely looks very difficult.

By the way what are the rates at the resort. Had you booked in advance?

Thanks Mansi.

Mtdc resort has varied options about accommodation at varied rates.
I had made online booking.
At the resort, there is no mobile signal, no tv, no traffic, nothing but just you, birds, trees, flowers and raw nature.

I suggest,
if any family is going to malshej, avoid week end.
If two day trip is planned, then it should be like this.
malshej ghat, lenyadri[ one of ashtvinayak], ozar[ one of ashtavinayak], shivneri fort[ easy to climb and well maintained fort].

Whether waterfalls are there now? I m asking because this season is witnessing scanty rain.

I have never visited Malshej Ghat but after reading your travelogue and looking at your pictures - I am going to go there.

We had called our bus up to mouth of naneghat.
Meantime, we forgot to tell the driver to bring that farmer with food.
Bus came without that farmer.
We all were so tired that none was in any mood to roam around or explore the area.
Changed our muddy, rain soaked wet cloths.
We thought that we had enough stock of bottled water in bus but found not a single bottle.
So, there was no food and water at that time.
This is remote area.you will not find any hotel, any paan tapri, any vehicle in this area.
Poor people live here with their limited resources.

Meantime, our guide called his uncle-that farmer to bring the food.
We found fresh water stream near that stone pot.
Finally, that farmer with his family came with food.

Food was simple. Bajra roti, one non veg item-chicken curry, one veg item-zunka, rice. Thats it.
We sat on the ground.
Food was served in the whatever available pots with that poor farmer.
We had that food holding roti in left hand and eating with right hand with the curry in the pot.
Mind my words, it was so tasty and most satisfying meal we had in that two days.

Paid that farmer and guide and started our journey back to Baramati at 5:30 pm.

Naneghat to Junnar via Chavand fort is again bone rattling journey.

Had tea at junnar.
Came to Baramati at 12:00 midnight via narayangaon, chakan,pune.

It is memorable trek.
Now, people from our group are demanding more such treks in every 3 to 4 months.
Lets see.

This area is so beautiful, full of waterfalls, trees, wild animals, mist, fog, forts and raw nature.

Better late than never, you should plan a drive to malshej with other bhpians in this season and have some fun.

yeah, in the pic those wet rocks looks so scary, imagine us dealing with those wet slippery rocks during trek.

Wonderful travelogue Ashish. Brought back fond memories of Malshej. Used to go there when there were just those 4suites and a dormitory there. Now there are a lot more rooms added. But the view from the upper storey of the canteen/restaurant is still the same! Sitting on the edge of the cliff in Malshej is a fantastic experience with the clouds rushing at you!

Some of the pics remind me of 'Gollum leading Frodo to Cirith Ungol' and the foggy mountain path of the 'Dimholt Road' in LOTR.

Awesome travelogue Ashish. This is indeed the best time to go aroound places in western maharashtra, the beauty simply comes alive. Your trek pictures were scary, but i am sure you would have enjoyed the thrill and excitement.

Itching to plan trip to Malshej, Bhimashankar and Amboli soon.
