Good thing that the trams can't jump lanes...

Those shops do indeed look like any scene from here - the tiles are authentic...

Thanks, sB - those are some wonderful pics!! Are there are separate signals for the trams and junctions where they cross each other?

And, there is a Merc taxi in the first pic

What are the fares for the taxi and the tram? And judging from your pictures, the weather appears to be glorious!

That is a 1.6L 4WD Swift/Esteem, would be a hoot to drive.

This car was also called the Pontiac Firefly. I remember seeing it in Dubai as a kid.

The car in the pic above has been lowered, as per the description.

The weather was good when we landed there (early-Oct), but then started getting cold, which was OK. The rains were a pain though.

No, signals were common for all vehicles, as far as I can remember.

Merc taxis are common in most parts of Europe. When I saw that the daily taxi to work at Belgium was an E-class, I was feeling high. But then when all taxis are Mercs, the high wears away.

We never rode the trams - so don't know the fares - client's place was just 2kms away and we preferred to walk (taking in the sights/cars) mostly and took a taxi when it was raining. For a 2km distance, the fare would be around 300 Dinars (Rs225) and it is by the meter. And the meter runs even while car is stationary. So during rains, when traffic is bad, the fares were like 400Dinars or so.

BTW, some of the taxi-drivers are like the infamous Chennai auto-guys. We landed late night at the airport and there was a taxi-guy soliciting customers. His was a spanking new C-class and his meter showed 2600Dinars to the hotel. We learnt later that the fare is usually 1300Dinars. Like they say in Chennai "soodu vecha meter" - tampered meter.

And you know what, after dropping us at the hotel, the guy was like, "Hope you have a nice time at Serbia. You are my guests first and only then my customers". Should have known then itself.

Thanks John. I was thinking that the '4WD' part was just a 'sticker'.

Looks like we can register Intellectual Property Rights on our "chennai soodu" - hope none of the auto driver brethen is a member here........

Hope they didn't take you for a ride when they found out that you were from Chennai!! (BTW, the recent rains in south must have really transformed our Madras into Venice!! Been seven years since I left the city - the storm water drains were symbolic than effective....)

More cars

1) The Swift, Spark & Logan parked alongside a Merc.

2) So common to see cars parked on the kerb - like the Toyota SUV and Merc in this picture.

3) Another Fiat hatch. Dont remember the model though.

4) Hyundai Accent - slightly different in looks from what we have here.

5) The sedan version of the Megane - much better than the ugly hatch version.
The Serbian car scene - You have it all here.-dsc02482.jpg

6) This was a sexy Audi sedan parked at a kind of Sunday market. Maybe experts can say which model. I have no idea.
The Serbian car scene - You have it all here.-dsc02484.jpg

7) The Astra - the lip spoiler is like what we have here on the Corsa and the rear boxy look has some resemblance to the Vectra. Speaking of the Vectra, I saw many of them here.

8) Another Audi. I leave the naming again to the experts.

9) A Merc flanked by namma Swift and the Smart.

Is the silver Audi not the A8?
The black one is definitely an A3
The Hyundai Accent was the previous version. About two versions previous to the one that we have.
The black Fiat is the Fiat Punto - Mark 2 Facelifted version. Infact there is also a red punto in the background of the Audi A8

Oops, my mistake. There are so many Sparks there, that I just assumed (wrongly) that this is also one.

Been a long time since I posted here. Some more snaps (of only 4-legged beauties though)

1) A Toyota hatch (Is it a Yaris ? Dont remember).
The Serbian car scene - You have it all here.-dsc02478.jpg

2) A hot hatch - though can't recollect which brand - the logo seems familiar, but cannot place it right now.
The Serbian car scene - You have it all here.-dsc02476.jpg

3) An Audi station wagon - as usual no idea what model it is.
The Serbian car scene - You have it all here.-dsc02474.jpg

4) A Honda Civic parked alongside a Spark. Hondas are very rare here - no idea why. In 10 days there, I might have seen a total of 3-4 Hondas - did not miss them though.
The Serbian car scene - You have it all here.-dsc02471.jpg

5) A Dacia Sandero hatch
The Serbian car scene - You have it all here.-dsc02463.jpg

6) Fiat Punto ?
The Serbian car scene - You have it all here.-dsc02456.jpg

7) The Nissan Micra - I guess I posted a snap of this hatch earlier too.
The Serbian car scene - You have it all here.-dsc02427.jpg

8) A New Holland excavator flanked on one side by a new Honda (Accord?) and on the other side by some ancient car. You can also see the left rear view of a Merc-taxi on the right-bottom corner of the snap.
The Serbian car scene - You have it all here.-dsc02364.jpg

9) The Skoda Fabia.
The Serbian car scene - You have it all here.-dsc02361.jpg

10) Is that a Fiat ?
The Serbian car scene - You have it all here.-dsc02360.jpg

More snaps to follow...

That's a "Seat" - don't recall which model though.

And the tenth snap reminds me of the first gen M800!
