Swifted : Bisle, Belur, Halebid, Chikmagalur, Kemmangundi

Back from the Himalayas. Three day weekend, Diwali holidays. Urge to get out is stronger.

What do we do? Go out?
Let's go out.

But where?
Let's go to the hills.

Hills will be crowded?
I know a hill which will not be, though I cannot assure a stay there. Ok?

OK, lets just get out. But stay?
We will come back to a crowded hill for the night.

Ok seems like a plan? What is the amount of drive?
Crazy, Morning to evening, with a lot of stops for photography.

So no resorts?
No, just a place to sleep.

Booking?
why?, we will go and see.

On that note we were out on the streets on 04:30AM, 17/10/2009 on a drive to some crazy and beautiful ghats in Karnataka to get back home on 22:30PM, 19/10/2009.

We have been to Sravenbelagola, Gorur Dam, Bisle Ghats, Kukke Subrahmanya temple, Shiradi Ghats, Chikmagalur, Kemmangundi, Belur, Halebid at some point of time in this trip.

Some teasers. Where are the roads?

Nice picture! Had been on bisle in early october, but it was all foggy for us. No roads, water on the roads, broken roads, we experianced everything out here. Hope you did not scrape the bottoms.

Thankfully not. The ZXi's wider wheels and high GC helped a lot. I must call my Red Riding Hood a mini SUV

Last year in September I went Badami- Aihole- Pattadakkal- Hampi- Bangalore- Mysore- Srirangapatnam- Sravana Belagola- Coorg- Belur- Halebid- Chikamagalur - Jog - Hubli and back to Pune. The place to visit in the September fog was the Baba Budan giri hills just outside Chikmagalur. The shrine is closed due to a dispute but the drive up and back are ethereal. Some snaps of the Baba Budan giri drive are attached. Also the Tata Coffee estate had opened their bungalow for tourists, so it was a nice experience in C'magalur.

Laluks,

I'm also on the same line, bought my vehicle in March 2009 and already completed seven trips. Clocking 26K KMs on the odo.

1. April 2009
Hassan - Belur - Halebid

2. May 2009
Ginjee Forts

3. June 2009
Kodaikanal

4. June 2009
Coastal Karnataka including Mangalore, Udupi, Karkala, Agumbe, Kundapura, Gokarna Karwar

5. August 2009
Hampi - Aihole

6. September 2009
Hampi again

7. October 2009
Coastal Karnataka again during the flood days, so no Karwar.

Have Bangalore - Kolkata planned for next January.

Wish you others and myself so many more years of tripping like this one.

Also can't wait to see the places you went through your lense.

Great going Laluks, waiting for more photos and logs on this trip. Sounds interesting, specially that road condition.

Ummmm I think all you need is little wish and let's go attitude to see some new places than to sit at home.

Just counted, did 17 trips this year. 7 long(overnight stay) and 10 small(day trips). Not very good, as I've planned to do at least one long trip per month.

Laluks, the man on the move!!!!

I really envy you man, You return from the Himalayas & start a trip the next weekend itself. Someone else would have taken a long break after such a long trip. I guess your family is equally enthusiastic about long trips, eh??

Keep trippin' & keep writin'!!!!

I should think that you should start a course/write a book on 'The art of taking long leaves every month'

Not at all. If I could be an influence this way, well that 'd be great, and what I would like. After all what we want is see and experience new places.

Thanks addy. My family likes to go places, though they prefer the resort types. But going to new places always is the hot topic during dinner time.

Regarding course book , all these holidays except for Goa and Himalayas were planned in the regular holidays, and not much leaves were taken. But you should definitely have a plan at the beginning of the year, when you'll move about.

I will certainly plan henceforth. I have done a few since I bought my first car an year ago but most trips have been close to Bangalore and unplanned. I am rather the laid back type and like to travel slow .

- Doddamakli
- Udupi via Hassan and Charmadi Ghats
- Udupi to Bangalore via Madikeri, Kushalnagar
- Chikmaglur
- Talakkadu-Jaladhama- Somanathapura
- And recently Shimoga and surrounding places. This was the only really planned trip about which I am currently writing my first travelogue ever.

I am keenly awaiting more updates and pics from your latest trip as my first objective is see my own state.
