Colours are mostly vegetable dyes (not sure if restoration used it too).

Jaisalmer in Ray's film

One of the earliest instances of Jaisalmer catching the public eye was in Satyajit Ray's ( who else) Bangla film, Sonar Kella ( the Golden Fortress) way back in the mid 1970s.
Wonderful shots of Ramdevra, Jaisalmer fort in that film.
You feel like going to Jaisalmer after watching the adventure in that film.

Wonderful pics Sam.

Your travelogue will come in very handy to me - I intend to do separately 1. the Mewar Circuit ( Udaipur and its surrounding areas) and 2. the Desert Circuit ( Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Barmer). # 1 in 2010 and #2 in 2011

Looking forward to more posts from you, Sam.

Regards

Thanks for the comments. Will try to see if I can catch that movie on DD anytime.

The desert circuit is better done off the beaten track. Roads are good - so are the people. Just need a good vehicle. Avoid the crowd and time your trip to ensure that.

Whenever you do your trip - and if you intend to drive down & pass via Mumbai - PM me if you need any assistance in Baroda..

Cheerio

Sam,

Will do. I am based in Bombay and will start my journey from there and pass through Baroda courtesy the NH8 and NE1.
I have posted my (proposed) trip related details at post # 24 in the thread Assistance needed for Rajasthan trip by jaysmokesleaves.
I will do the Mewar circuit in second half of Jan 2010 or first half of Feb 2010; the Desert circuit will be at the same time the next year.

That thread is very informative, especially the inputs from anainar and HVKumar.

Regards

Okay Kartik, will do so once I have some time on my hands. Since you are based in Ahmedabad, visit the GMVN / KMVN office there - contact 26421214. or Google - Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam and you should find all details.

Thanks Ramkya1,

Hope the trip logs will be useful to other similar minded nomads travelling in that region.....

The interesting thing about that border railway station on Pakistan side is that it is built immediately after the pillar. It should not have been as 100 ft of no mans land should have been left on both sides of the pillar. India's border fence is 100 ft away while Pakistan has not built any fence at all.

Technically, the no mans land should not have any construction by either countries but the Railway station from Pakistan defies that rule. A report by IBN on Youtube is attached :

When I had asked BSF guys there - they said, 'Well we have the problem so we fence our side - we do not care what international laws they break as we can only report'.

Cheers, Sam
