Gaganchukki Falls Near Bangalore at its best(Pics).

I am posting some pics of the my visit to Siva Samundram Hydel powerstation and GaganChukki falls( Cauvery River) which is around 130km drive from Bangalore( towards Kanakpura Road).

People planning for weekend trips can plan to go to this place but make sure to go before September end, because this is the time you will find maximum current of water flowing downhill.

Road to SivaSamudram

watch out for cauvery current

Me& My Son in SivaSamundram Power station

Gaganchukki Fall -1 ( coming out from left current)

Gaganchukki Fall -2 ( coming out from right current)

Watch out for water droplets coming out

Having fun time near the river

Using Timer device to get my family together

Rainbow formation down the valley

cheers

Cool place man... i guess since the water is at such a high flow, the tokra boat rides wont be running there right now. they were the best part of the trip.. we went right upto the foot of those falls in those tokra boats! The crappy Maid of the Mist ride of Niagara is nothing compared to this boat ride.

Were you able to go down the stone steps to the falls?

Not planned yet, was thinking of Hogenekal Falls but somebody told me that last weekend it was closed for visitors( As a safety measure).
I may go to any one of this place( Depends on the weather)
1.Mysore( 1 day trip)
2. Bandipur ( One night stay)
3. Ooty.( On night stay) - Not sure if its possible

Let me know if any other place in near vicinity apart from Nandi hill and Banyan Tree.

cheers

You can go to KR Hills as well. But you will have to stay at Chikmaglur for the night as there is only a govt guest house for accomodation at KR Hills, i think. But Chikmaglur has some decent places to stay. You can make a day trip to KR Hills from Chikmaglur.

Even i am wondering what to do over this long weekend... looking for ideas...

Cheers

A million dollar question rining in my mind and two of my friends.
So far decided on coorg, but really not yet decided on what to do there. Any suggestion some thing for 3 full days (including travelling time)? I am looking at coorg, and regions near udipi, mangalore etc... I know its raining all over the place, but thats not a problem. (sorry for being offtopic...)

Guys: Any one of you visited Papanasam that is 15-20 kms away from Kutralam.

Coorg will be full of cars from Bangalore during such long weekends. If you haven't booked already, you won't get any hotel rooms. The fun is Coorg is the drive, not the destination.

Udupi, Mangalore, etc., it is raining heavily now, although I have to visit there next weekend for a wedding.

Yes but still I saw people having fun down the foothill, bathing in the bed of the river.I didnt see any body rafting there..

best part of the waterfall is the thumping sound of water which can be heard 2 kms from the falls. Cauvery river is divided into two streams both forming a waterfall adjacent to one another at 90 degree. If you get near, you can actually feel the water droplets all over your body giving a refreshing sensation.

cheers

Do mistake me, any exaggeration here?

After seeing your snaps, decided to make it in the month of September. We had already planned for Pitchavaram water falls near Chidambaram, TN this weekend

Take the same Road (kanakpura Road), from Kanakpura, Don't take Diversion to Mekedatu and keep going straight on kanakpura road(around 95km from Bangalore ). This Road ends on a T junction, Take a Left and drive 20-25Km. You will reach SivaSamudram, Ask anyone....

Make sure you take your Breakfast and lunch, You won't find good restaurant etc.. nearby.

Cheers.
