Yercaud is a small place, you could feel this instantly as you enter the town. As soon as you would enter you could see the GRT hotel, Tamil Nadu hotel and the yercaud lake on the right side.
We had booked our rooms at Shevaroy's and Hotel Tilakam Nest, to make sure that we atleast like one place among the two.But my wife had read rave reviews about the Grange Resort,so she suggested that we try to get rooms there if it's available. We asked direction for Grange resort and through a littly muddy and broken roads we drove inside.
As soon as we were inside, we were like, this place is good. We parked inside and enquired about the availability. I knew it was coming, after all it was a long weekend. But they were nice people and suggested to stay at Shevaroy's. They told that Hotel Tilakam Nest is basically a lodge and that it is not good. They even enquired for rooms at the Sky Rocca hotel for us. We found the room rent at Grange Resort very reasonable, for those cottages it was Rs. 1650/- per night.
Few snaps of the road and Grange Resort:

The place looks nice ! Was it close to the lake?
I was at Yercaud on the new year's eve and it was nice. A quaint little town!

So mystery solved, thanks for sharing rainthreat. I was guessing it to be something related to cricket and it came true.

No, pandey ji, didn't get to eat those bananas,we get the same kind in Patna too, there we call it "chiniya kela" because it's very sweet.

Grange resort is not close to the lake, you have to take a left turn opposite to the lake, there are many left turns, so you have to check the boards carefully for the directions. After about 3-4 kms and another right turn you will get to Grange resort.I'll try and put up a map of Yercaud.

Disappointed on not getting a room at Grange Resort, we decided to head to Shevaroy's were we booked 2 standard deluxe rooms. Room rent was reasonable at Rs.775 + taxes , so total was approximately rs. 850 per room. We tried to upgrade but the upgrade room was nothing much except for the size of the room, so we decided to take the 2 rooms for three of us.
Though we were disappointed for Grange Resort, I must say Shevaroy's completely drained away our disappointed. We were thoroughly satisfied with Shevaroy's , it seemed to be a perfect value for money hotel. It was all green, has a Chinese restaurant and a bar, ducks roaming around in the hotel area, the noise they make gives you a feeling of being with the nature. Also it has probably the most number of rooms among the hotels in Yercaud(I might be wrong here), so this helps if you walk in unplanned, they might just have a room available for you, but yes for sure you won't get those cottages. There is enough space to park your car, but mind you weekends are really crowded at Shevaroy's atleast. After we checked in , we saw whole lot of cars driving inside the hotel and by the time we were leaving for sight seeing , the parking was completely full.
We got nice rooms which had a separate entrance which was covered with flowery plants.
We got in the room, freshened up and ordered for tea. Room service was fairly quick. It was already time for lunch , we decided to have lunch at room, rest a little and then go out for sight seeing.
We ordered for rice, dal, a chicken curry and veg dish( forgive my memory, I'll look up the bills and post the details at the end). Again food was good, but portion size was a little less.
Now time for some Shevaroy's snap;

After lunch and resting for a while, we started our sight seeing. Decided to first goto the Lady's seat, went round the lake and lost the direction, asked some locals there and then finally after taking a another round of the town and through some very narrow roads, we reached Lady's seat. The weather had become fantastic meanwhile , dark clouds in the sky and few big drops of rain, we were enjoying being there. Got some snaps clicked with monkeys there ,had hot mirchi bhajji and tea. Spent some time sitting and chatting there. It had really become cold there due to the chilling wind.
Now for some snaps of the view from lady's seat.

Great 'picture-logue'. I would say you were quite lucky to find black clouds. Did it rain as well?

Also one more question. I did Bangalore - Nagpur via Hyderabad in October 2009. There were two toll booths between Bangalore & Kurnool which were not functional. Are they working now? What's the toll?

Regarding my trip to Yercaud, I had initially planned on staying overnight. But as I was talking to the guy in a hotel...

Me: So you also do campfires and stuff in the night?
Hotel guy: We certainly do sir... but right now the season is not right. Its too hot even in the night for a campfire.

... and that put me off!

Wow, really sounds like a great trip Fordmanchau. Reminded me of the trip that we took to Yercaud during May of 2009 (was driving from Trivandrum to Chennai). We had stayed at the Lake Forest Hotel, a fantastic place. Try that the next time. Did drive down to Granch when we were there and the swimming pool was empty even then - so I guess it is not maintenance.
We had most of our food at Shevroy's as we thought that Lake Forest was expensive on this.
Anyway a great place to visit.

Thank you safedrive. We checked Lakeview too, but it was beyond our budget. In Grange, we didn't get rooms.
Yercaud is indeed a nice place. My sister-in-law visited yercaud just last week and she was all praise about it.The weather has been real good these days.
This travelogues is not yet complete, I think it's about time I complete it. Thanks for bumping up the thread

Grange Resort was where we had our Yercaud meet .. brings back some fond memories.

@FM looks like you are fascinated by two things there : the simian, and of course - your Ikon. The Ikon I can understand, but the simian ?

LOL!
Maybe because of the lack of interesting wildlife at yercaud?
